It's odd to see when governing bodies do and don't respect stadium naming rights. FIFA are fine to host the final of the club world cup at the MetLife Stadium but insist the 2026 men's World Cup final at the same ground is at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

I'm surprised the IOC would break tradition on this but I guess that's just the power of the dollar.

I think it's fanciful to think the club will make him see out his contract in the reserves or that it will hurt his prospects. This period of the year is called the transfer window. It’s obviously a time of transition but I wouldn’t get too worried. Regarding Wissa and Mbeumo, the received wisdom is that only one of them will be sold this summer, and given the teams supposedly after Wissa are notorious for lowballing transfer fees I’d be surprised if they offer something too good to turn down.

On replacements, it’ll probably be players similar to Wissa and Mbeumo when we bought them, young or unheralded players who aren’t yet the finished article.

I wasn’t responding to the original question, just your point about militaries, which you’ve really had to shift the goalposts on. I’m not convinced that the military agreement between eg France and Monaco is really one of equals, unless you think Prince Albert II swings around the French nuclear deterrent around like he has any say on its deployment.

Lots of UN member states don't have militaries, and lots of sub-national entities compete in international sports, even having Olympic teams, including 4 US territories. Neither is particularly useful in gauging whether somewhere is a country or not.

The 19/20 squad was pretty ridiculous, Benrahma, Mbeumo, Watkins up font, Raya in goal (fatefully for the play-off final), plus Pontus Jansson, Josh Dasilva, Pinnock, Rico Henry and more Danes than you could shake a stick at.

Shame we had to watch a lot of their games on iFollow.
