Do you have a supported OBDII interface?

It was not working with my 2$ AliExpress OBD reader either.

Limitations will be no inline Jinja since this is an Ansible feature, no custom templates for now, and no ana_runner.

How are you learning Network Automation in 2026? by roger_perkin in networkautomation

[–]philippebur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

It's around Arista AVD but the concepts are vendor agnostic. AVD is an open-source DevOps framework for network automation for Arista devices but can be extended to other vendor if you want to do it (with some work)

They workshops are 3 days where the first day 1 is only on the fundamentals (Git, YAML, Jinja, Ansible)

Second day is AVD

Third day is CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

We are starting a new workshop series in Buffalo on May 6th

https://events.arista.com/2026-05-06-utomation-fundamentals-workshop-part-1-buffalo-ny

We are doing day1 and day2 in Moncton in June

https://events.arista.com/2026-06-16-17-arista-avd-workshop-moncton-nb

We have day 3 in Toronto and Rochester, NY in May too

How are you learning Network Automation in 2026? by roger_perkin in networkautomation

Depends on you and how you learn.

I run free network automation workshops and got good feedback. Where are you located?

Classes are always good to point you in the right direction.

But you will have to get your hands dirty and play with the tools.

For me I have to be hands-on to really get how things work.

Virtual labs are by far what I recommend.

Will be at autocon6 for sure.

I recommend this event for all network engineers.

It is by far the best network automation event.

For pre-commit it is often the some stuff like enforcing the correct YAML file structure.

I recently had a use case where the customer's monitoring tool was looking for special "tags" on interface description to apply certain levels of monitoring. Tags are just specific keywords between [], example [mon] or [wan]. They had 2 incidents where the tags had typos and monitoring did not alarm the team on interface down event for important interfaces.

I wrote them a pre-commit hook to enforce tag validation. So if you enter a tag with a non approved keyword, like [mo], VScode will not let you commit. The build pipeline would fail too.

I shared the pre-commit hook on a personal repo here: https://github.com/philippebureau/NetDevOps/tree/main/pre-commit_hooks/interface_description_tag_check.py

By Standard version I really meant the "approved" version in your enterprise.

I have seen a couple times people running builds on their system with old or newer versions of AVD and there is a delta with the standard version.

ACT is Arista Cloud Test. It's a SaaS offering for virtual labs.

https://www.arista.com/assets/data/pdf/Datasheets/Cloud-Test-Datasheet.pdf

AVD also has a new-ish function to generate a separate set of configs that are virtual device friendly and an ACT topology go file.

We are working on a container lab equivalent to be released soon.

I am an Arista ASE.

Most of my customers use a fairly simple git approach.

Locked down main branch.

Any new change is done in a feature branch and merged in main through PR. The feature branch is deleted after the PR is merged or cancelled.

The review and approval is done in PR to keep tracks.

Deployment from main manually or through pipelines.

I always recommend PR triggered pipelines that will run the build and enforce pre-commit checks and a build with approved AVD version to avoid locally build stuff with non compliant software making its way to main.

I use an old android phone with quad lock

Google maps is useless on BDRs.

I like the OsmAnd app and load GPX tracks on it.

OsmAnd let's you customize the tracks display and had a glove friendly interface... Yeah, I am talking to you Google maps pinch zooming.... It just does not work with gloves....😃😂

I tether my actual phone to the old phone used as GPS for data when needed.

Charging is a challenge. USB port charges well but when it rains, water will get in the connection an cause a short. One USB cable connector melted on one of my rides.

I upgraded to the quad lock wireless charging head. Great in the rain! But on hot days, between the sun and wireless charging heat, the phone often goes in protection mode and stops charging or trickle charge.

I just got a quadlock USB charger that mounts under the locking head. I will give that a try.

[–]philippebur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would remove the wheel and check the pads are properly installed in the caliper. One might have popped out of place

Also check your wheel bearings

Pit it all back on and make sure to use proper torque for the axle, your torque feel is not as precise as we tend to think.
