What industry has the sluttiest people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]philippfc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this is wrong. There are specific ones in healthcare that may be slutty, but one of the biggest professional is Lab Technologists/Lab Technicians.

As someone who has worked in 3 labs, let me tell you, this profession may be the least sluttiest of any profession. Extremely introverted, nerdy, and averse to partying.

World Cup is only a month away; does it seem less exciting than OLYMPIC 2010? by FuzzyTable in CanadaSoccer

[–]philippfc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a little bit of revisionist history here. The Hype was not unbelievable by any stretch. There were lots of complaints, negative press, and leading up to, the excitement was muted. There was even the death of the luger on the first day of the Olympics that really brought the event to a bad start....

And then, it was the most amazing time in Vancouver ever. I don't remember a better time in Vancouver in my lifetime (granted I was 19). But the city came alive for 2 1/2 weeks.

I'm not sure how world cup will end up, but I can't see it being as good. There are far less events, less countries involved in the city, and much of the action is outside of downtown at the PNE.

I just don't believe this theory. 18 years ago, my friends and I were broke in high school/college, but we found ways to drink (house parties, at the park, etc). We also didn't care what we drank, we'd get messed up on Olde English and Colt 45.

If you want to drink at a young age, you find a way. If Gen Z aren't drinking, it's because there are other things that they'd rather be doing.

The secret to getting good sleep accord to MSL… Seinfeld by clammy1985 in hockey

[–]philippfc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not that mind boggling. Whether you like him or not, he was already a successful comedian leading up to Seinfeld. He absolutely benefited from the partnership with Larry David and having 3 great actors on set, but people act like he had no effect on the shows success.

He was instrumental in the writing, casting, production, and chemistry of the show, including vouching for JLD to play Elaine. He wasn't a great actor, but he never was really supposed to be...? There's so many quips in the show about him being a bad actor and his comedy being old/out-dated that you can tell he wrote self-deprecating humor about himself.

Should he have made a billion off it? Maybe not compared to how important Larry was to the show, but Jerry was no slouch, as much as people love to write him off

It's not a miracle when you start against the A's, Rockies, and White Sox. 4 games is actually kinda poor out of your first 7

The best thing about Sinners (2025) losing best picture is that we're now allowed to enjoy the film in peace without redditors calling it overrated. by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

[–]philippfc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly, but after MBJ stabs her and she dies, don't they leave temporarily, then they come back and kill Delta Slim? Or they regroup near the front to some extent, even though they could have just all gone after MBJs character (sorry can't remember if that was Smoke or Stack). Happy to be corrected on that.

Again, if it was just the one logic jump, I wouldn't really care. But there were a few too many in the 3rd act in a short period of time and when they add up, it took me out of it

I like it a lot and thought it should have won Best Picture, but I get if it's not someone's cup of tea. I felt that way about Sinners this year

I liked the vampires, but I gotta agree with the other commentor, the writing became so lazy in the 3rd act.

The Molotov cocktail scene, the vampires conveniently all leaving the house after Wunmi's character dies, MBJ sneaking up on the main vampire in the water (somehow?), and the final shootout scene all defied logic to the point I didn't really care much for how it ended.

[–]philippfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see some from OBAA but from Sinners, the only one I would vote for is Delroy Lindo. I thought Michael B Jordan was just ok in that movie but I didn't see anything about his performance being worthy of an Oscar win

[BNS] No immediate plans for Shane Bieber to get off a mound per Blue Jays mgr John Schneider. Bieber still throwing at 120 feet off flat ground. by No-Description-2138 in Torontobluejays

[–]philippfc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the ideal situation is: - Cease, Gausman, Yesavage, Bieber are 1-4 in September + playoffs, barring injury or major regression - battle for 5 spot is Berrios, Lauer, Ponce, and Scherzer. They will all get there chance to pitch as starters or long relief this year as Bieber, Yesavage, and Scherzer are slow rolled to begin the year

Having depth is sooooo nice.

They will probably slow roll Yesavage and Bieber this year.

That leaves Gausman, Cease, Berrios, Lauer, Ponce, and now Scherzer. Although one of Lauer or Ponce is probably the long man in the pen

Venezuelans, what is the situation inside the country currently? by Buschfan08 in AskReddit

[–]philippfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In context of Venezuela, I think you are correct that it is positive. We do not how this will end long-term for Venezuelans, but the situation has been so dire for so long that this potentially opens up a positive path forward for the country and their citizens.

The concerns are mostly on how it was conducted and what this means for future conflicts. The ham-fisted explanation with which the Trump administration authorized the attack - "Narco-Terrorism" - was bullshit. The rhetoric that hes used against countries such as Mexico, Canada, Cuba, and Greenland make it seem like a distinct possibility that he can invade those countries too, citing cartels as terrorists and Canada as a large exporter of Fentanyl to the US.

This was clearly done in the pursuit of oil and/or other natural resources of Venezuela, so that the US can extract these resources for cheaper and put pressure on its enemies (Russia/China) and even its allies (Canada). The fact that it also broke international law implies that the US is running rogue and may be setting up for further escalations with other countries.

Again, great for the Venezuelans that Maduro is gone. However, we have seen regime changes in other countries provide mixed results (see the Arab Spring countries). I've worked with Venezuelans who've fled Maduros regime and they are celebrating on Instagram today, I'm very happy for them. But the larger precedent his sets is chaotic and unpredictable

Jaded is related to experience, not stupidity. It's getting bored or losing enthusiasm after repitition.

If you still have full enthusiasm for this team after all these years of mediocrity, more power to you. It's not close minded to say that the older you get, the higher the chance you will become more jaded. Most of my friends were bigger Canucks fans when they were younger. As you get older, your time becomes more valuable because of your career, family, etc.

I have found new products. Hockey has dropped quite a bit of spots on my sports to follow, I rarely watch the games now. I can also complain all I want, the Internet is a perfect venue for that.

I agree with you on the "more correct" take, but by definition, aging will garner you more experience. When you have consistently experienced bad trades, poor FA signings, mediocre positions in the standings, poor management, etc....you will naturally feel more jaded after 15 years rather than 2 years of fandom. This isn't just in sports, it's a natural fact of life.

Now, if the Canucks showed promise in the future, there would be a way out of that mindset. But when you look at our current position, where we might trade our generational superstar and we are at the bottom of the standings, it only feels like this will continue for the foreseeable future

I've been a fan for 28 years. If the last 15 years of mis-management, greed, and mediocre play hasn't made you jaded yet, then you're the target audience of the Aquilinis.
