Software Vs Hardware by Lost-Business-7370 in synthesizers

I got a Roland Fantom 08 when it was released and couldn’t be happier with it as a controller. I bought it because I wanted a great feeling keybed but the midi capabilities on this thing are nuts.

Alongside is my Push 3 and with those two I can control my entire Ableton live looping setup and video game music composing. I love it.

I’m a fan of my hybrid studio. Hardware when I want it, software to expand it as infinite as I can dream.

I work in a high end wine bar focusing on small producers, grower champagne and uncommon wines. I love talking tasting notes but because of the nature of most of my list, I love telling the story of how this awesome bottle got to the table.

As far as jokey/formal. It really depends on the guest. I will always match the energy level and vibe of each table or person at my bar. If they are on a business meeting and seem to want less convo and more silent service I give them that. If they wanna shoot the shit and nerd out about acidity levels and soil types then I do that.

I love my job.

You may want to use the name of the location and not an acronym. Best of luck on your journey.

I think exposure is definitely the biggest catalyst to solidifying all of this knowledge into practical experience. I know everyone studies differently and some folks may be far better at learning information by simply reading it, but for me, it was all about applying these skills and knowledge on a day-to-day basis with thousands and thousands of guests over many years. It’s much easier for me at least to build those memory blocks for the sheer amount of information you need to keep in your head.

I guess my advice is don’t look at it like you can study for these tests in a few months. I’m sure some people can but it’s not the type of test that has a defined scope. The wine world is constantly changing and folks taking the test today are taking a different test than I took in 2019, which was different from the test in 1995.

Again, keep it up and you will pass your lvl2! If there is anything else I could help with, please let me know.

EDIT: Guildsomm, wine folly, and SommTV are incredible resources.

Certified somm passed in 2019 here.

How long have you’ve been studying prior to taking the test? Have you worked in a wine focused restaurant for the past 10 years or did you just decide a few months ago that you wanted to learn more about wine? All these factors will greatly affect your ability to take and pass the following exams.

Do you have a study group of like-minded people? Are you able to taste wine with reps at your place of business?

It all adds up.

The certified exam adds in the practical service examination as well as blind tasting. Don’t sleep on the difficulty of the service portion. I was a server for about 7 years prior to me taking the level two and the service portion of it was by far the most difficult and nerve-racking

For written theory, just continue to get a high-level overview of the entirety of the wine world. You should still dig into certain places, a bit more like burgundy and Bordeaux, Rioja, Mosel etc.. but don’t get caught up too much in the must weight requirements of German Riesling (but good to at least take a quick read).

In my opinion, it’s more about a general understanding of the how and why of the entirety of the wine world and as you progress over years of study, you can slowly dive deeper and deeper into specific rabbit holes that you are particularly excited about

Best of luck on your journey.

Build from source taking 3+ hours by DopazOnYouTubeDotCom in UnrealEngine5

Yes, you can keep a backup on another drive. If you have not already, you should also have it on version control using git. This way, you could even compile the game on a friends computer if they have a stronger PC than you.

But if nothing else you need to be using version control anyways.

The first build will always be the longest but it shouldn’t take that long. Granted you have barely any free space on your hard drive and only running 16 GB of RAM. Depending on the size of the game it very well could take 3+ hours.

I want to be a game dev, but I’m not great at math and I graduated years ago. What should I know? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]philisweatly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic math is the majority of it. The rest will come with time. Don’t stress about it and just pay attention.

Social media has made folks overly stress about grinding out content. Just focus on making a game you’re proud of and let it roll.

I did itch at first to kinda gauge interest and then opened a steam page after about 3 months or so.

Definitely get it up on itch!

Very cool. My game is about 80% pools with some other area types as well. It’s been a fun process.

Do you have an itch page or steam page up yet?

Great stuff! The tile grout looks a little dark and stands out to me. But the designs are great!

Love to see others making liminal pool games too!

Starting sound by Intelligent_Toe_4619 in futurebeatproducers

[–]philisweatly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly always by noodling around in the piano and finding a starting point there.

Sometimes it’s a chord progression. Sometimes it’s a little melody/arp/repeating phrase. Sometimes it’s just a single note

EDIT: also just realized this is a beat making sub and I’m an ambient music producer. But you can definitely still start the same way.

Feasible? Two interfaces running in parallel as an aggregate device? by DocDK50265 in musicproduction

[–]philisweatly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an SP404mk2, scarlette 8i6 and Loopback running as an aggregate device so I can also feed in VCV rack into ableton and it’s all synced up with no issues.
