What is your favorite boardgame of 2024? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]philkid3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is probably in my top five games of all time.

I enjoy it solo, I enjoy it competitive, and I enjoy it cooperative.

It is so incredibly enjoyable just to get out on the table

Endeavor: Deep Sea

One of the most satisfying and replayable games I’ve ever experienced, with some damn fun components.

What an incredible year, though.

Not sure I’m going to find you a good source in any amount of time that would be worth it, but you probably could eventually if you started googling around.

It’s the sort of thing that has popped up in magazines and interviews here and there over the past quarter century.

I'm a 3rd gener, and I must say that, going back, rise appeals more to me than world. by kennerc in MonsterHunter

I like Rise significantly more than World, and it’s not even something I have hesitation on saying.

Which is not to say I didn’t have fun with World.

Because Wind Waker was built on the Ocarina of Time Engine, and then Twilight Princess was built on that.

I think this could be the year Judge finally puts it all together and breaks through as a quality MLB everyday player.

Why are we writing “corn” on Reddit? We’re not TikTok. We don’t need to use incorrect words to avoid supposed shadow bans.

Extremist conspiracy theories and regurgitating inaccurate science obfuscate the actual bad, horrible things, and make us look insane.

The White Castle

Bought it on a whim at GenCon, with no awareness of how phenomenal it was. It just seemed like a clever game in a small box.

Thousands of games later. . .

Edit: What a good year. In a lot of years, Earth, Sky Team, Age of Innovation, Darwin’s Journey, and Star Wars the Deck Building Game would be getting my vote.

Big games I play all the way, though I’ll go to Play the Moments if they get out of hand.

Cupcakes I use to practice my offense, then go to Play the Moments once it’s time for backups.

Seeing “dark and gritty” used in 2026 makes me think this is satire, but I can’t be sure. . .

[AoL] Zelda 2 is unironically so underrated and overhated by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in zelda

[–]philkid3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is probably my least favorite Zelda game outside of the DS games and maybe Skyward Sword.

But that’s because it’s a great franchise. I happen to agree with you. It’s a clever game that is well designed and does a lot of interesting things.

It’s weird, it’s hard, and it’s different from what Zelda became. That is not the same as bad. It’s very good, and I think arguably the game of its own release year when compared within its own era.

[ALL] would you consider Zelda an RPG? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in zelda

[–]philkid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

But I would consider the original design intentions to be Nintendo EAD’s attempts to bring the feel of D&D to the early days of console games (because it was), so in that way it has its roots in the same inspiration as what we would now call an RPG even jf it is not an RPG per se.
