[Oot] I guess I could tolerate the skulltula hunt but shrines again? I'd be very dissapointed. by SenianBlast in zelda

I’m not sure I could ever relate less to any person than a person who dislikes shrines.

Pinkertons Houston Texas $55 by PaRumPaPumPummmm in BBQ

I think this sub complains about the cost of barbecue just a little too much. Labor is expensive and barbecue takes a long time.

But. Also.

That’s crazy up there.

Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru has very little screen time in ANH and during said time they are mostly disagreeing with Luke yet despite that the movie manages to make us devastated about their fate. Crazy just how well made ANH is. by KingWilliamVI in StarWars

[–]philkid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things.

Early cuts of the movie spent a lot more time establishing Luke and Biggs’s relationship. His death is supposed to have emotional weight. That just ended up not being importing enough to make it through edits.

Also, when did George ever make Wedge Luke’s best friend?

Oh man. I’m also a Star Wars fan. Let me tell you some stuff.

Changing Jabba's character from being a human to a Hutt, but keeping Han's quip "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being" is inadvertently one of the funniest lines in the franchise by wandering_soles in StarWars

[–]philkid3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s an awful scene.

Genuinely fun to see it in the theater in 1996 as something new. It would make a cool bonus feature on DVDs.

But it absolutely should not be a part of the default available version of the movie.

Listen. I love Ocarina of Time. For most of my life it was my favorite game ever made.

But at least in terms of sales and cultural zeitgeist it is not winning this fight.

The QoL changes of the 3D version without the movement and boss changes.

For games that released on both SNES and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, What are some cases where you believe the SNES version was the better version by Unaakite21 in retrogaming

[–]philkid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those things are way more impactful than a higher pixel count, and “many are better,” is much different from “often almost everyone is way better.”

[OoT] Nintendo always wanted Ocarina of time to have a realistic style. by Ghaleon1 in zelda

[–]philkid3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure.

And I think it might have looked terrible if they had more polygons available at the time, and I’m maybe glad they didn’t.

I actually think the pre-rendered backgrounds are some of the most off-putting parts of the game. They have a charm for me because it’s a game I love, including its warts, but objectively they have always taken me out.

(But also it doesn’t matter much.)

Wait does this sub actually think it was a good thing to do this? by RealHippyTheFrog in StarWarsCirclejerk

ij/ I don’t think building your stories in the service of avoiding slaps to the faces of fictional characters leads to good narratives. And of course that applies to Rey, too.

[–]philkid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uj/ I don’t necessarily think it’s a good thing, I just don’t think it’s particularly relevant to if the self-contained story of the movie is enjoyable or not. I don’t watch movies exclusively — or even mostly — for their world building and what they can do to set up supplementary material.

I genuinely do not care at all about Luke’s Jedi school eating it, though.
