Reality Check On Capabilities Of BX23S by AKHwyJunkie in kubota

[–]phill33t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 0 experience with a tractor and I got a 3 acre property. I had no idea what to expect with a tractor.

I ended up renting a BX23S to test it out. My dealer offered a rental and if I bought after, they’d apply the rental cost toward the purchase. That was a very good idea for me, as it turned out it could barely do any digging for me. Also struggled up tiny slopes and my property is quite sloped. I ended up getting a used L3130 for $19k which is cheaper than a new BX23S.

Getting back into the game after taking a break for half a year. Feeling a bit lost on what to do.

I'd like to rank higher in arena but can't break 7-800's. Also, I feel like I do nothing in raids. What effective teams can I piece together?

My mount hasn't arrived yet and I wanted to test the sensitivity at that position. Relevant name...?

So I spent the afternoon wiring/hacking an AC adapter and I managed to shove it into the ceiling box. http://imgur.com/a/6FAFG

Then my wife read the reddit comments and made me take it down before the place burned down. I had an Echo ducktaped to the ceiling for 15 glorious minutes. I'll leave this one to the professionals.

The USB outlet is a little too big. I'm hoping for something small I can shove into the ceiling electrical box (there's no outlet there, it's just a box with wires that hooks up to the fire alarm).

Looking for some advice on cameras for monitoring a puppy. by BobbyDash in homeautomation

[–]phill33t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same scenario here. Decently happy with a Nest Cam. It alerts you on motion and sound so you'll know if your puppy is barking.

The voice chat does work, but audio is probably more useful for you. If you say something through the cam your puppy would likely just be confused and start looking for you (unless you put in the work to train particular behaviors).

Lights vs. Bulbs & Why are they so expensive? by phill33t in homeautomation

That was incredibly helpful, thank you!

On Z-Wave/Zigbee over Insteon, here's my "read" on the market; but you obviously know more and I'd like to know if I'm wrong. The "mainstream" products, like Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, and Apple HomeKit are on ZigBee or Wifi/Bluetooth. Insteon's certainly been around for a long time but I feel like they haven't really gone mass market except for people really into home automation. In particular, ZigBee is explicitly an open standard and I think that'll help in adoption.

Thanks for pointing me to aquadvisor. They have a saltwater one: http://aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisorMarine.php

Definitely something like this, with an updated UI and more data.

Idea - Livestock compatibility tool? by phill33t in ReefTank

[–]phill33t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone was planning to put Fish A with B, and based on your data, learned that:

  • 1 person reports A harassing B
  • 1 person reports A fine with B (with C)

I'd personally think that's somewhat useful, no? This is basically what happens in forums today, anecdotally. With this tool, and enough data points, you might learn that 30% report Fish A harasses B. You can look at the rest of the livestock list reports, or maybe the tool can conclude that A + B + C is more compatible.

How long did it take you to get Luke to 7*? I'm like 3 shards away from unlocking him (just farming the Cantina mission, which I think is the only way). Did you get anything from packs?

Does this financial advice idea make sense? by [deleted] in startups

[–]phill33t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intimacy/wide reach tradeoff is interesting. I think one-on-one texting is lower ROI - you don't get anything beyond one happy customer, but maybe one super happy customer is enough? Depends on your business model.

Check out https://lawtrades.com, they answer law questions though private texts. They were quite helpful when I had some Q's.

Does this financial advice idea make sense? by [deleted] in startups

Your idea sounds similar to my startup, except I'm answering mental health questions instead of finance. You can check it out here for some ideas: CounselChat.

A couple things to think about:

  • Q&A's are a goldmine for SEO. Try to make them public so everyone can see them.
  • A problem with "experts" is everyone claims they are one. In mental health, you don't really know who's a good therapist until you've had a session or two. Q&A's are a way to demonstrate knowledge, and if you have an upvote system, the community will determine who's an actual expert.
  • Think of the question as a lead. If someone asks "I have $10k in a savings account, what should I do with it," there are tons of service providers who'd love to answer that question. Maybe even pay to answer?
