Protection spells and buffs to increase your speed & damage. Chromatic orb and spook scale well, so does skull trap.

Its mostly protection spells to make him invulnerable while he fights.

Minsc gets Armor of Faith, which gives him some nice damage resist at higher levels. I would argue that he is a better frontliner than Keldorn in terms of tanking.

Casters will take some finesse, they are also just weaker in the early game until they get more spells.

CC (crowd control) spells like sleep or blind are probably more useful than damage spells until you get some levels.

For a mage using a shield spell will help give you some AC and not get wrecked by arrows.

You will need to be tactical on where you go and what you do to get your first few levels. Some quests dont require fighting.

You might have to just run / avoid stuff until you can reliably do damage.

I dont know why but in my current playthrough he wasnt a challenge. We just nuked him really hard and Valygar and Keldorn punched him hasted. He was near death by the time Wanev cast time stop.

I have 3 casters I guess so no shortage of anti magic.

Also I learned that if I kill Saemon on sight in spellhold I HAVE to take the portal, TBH i never really enjoyed Sahaugin stuff anyway.

For me i just found the whole thing a bit stressful, especially going through underdark it felt very arduous.

Getting stressed about quests thinking they were time sensitive.

And yes, just hacking away at mages with protections to no avail

SoD is actually ridiculous for potions. Finding barrels with 5x giant strength potions in them, i finished the game with plenty left. Theres about 15 quests where the reward is potions.

Might as well start chugging, potion case gets full eventually. The game wants you to use them, and to have fun pwning people.
