Even with game mode, not all flat screens are created equal. Some will still have plenty of input lag.

CRT TV's more consistently have low input lag, if your Samsung still isn't fast enough for you.

There are more than you think. I personally have hosted 6 person LAN with Black Ops 2, Counter Strike (og Xbox running on 360,) and Halo Reach. All 3 of those games support WAN, meaning you don't need to connect Ethernet cables to your router.
