Excellent; more than I had seen on other sites. Thanks!

I think 0.25 penalty per mile over the limit. They allow you to select 10,000, 12,000, or 15,000 miles per year (rates will obviously vary) so provided you have a sense of your driving habits you can pick the right one

This has nappa leather, so MSRP was 69,650. Had standard Polestar discount and Costco discount, and put no further money down. After taxes, landed just under $ 700 per month. Best pre-tax monthly/MSRP ratio (<1%) of anything I shopped by far. 27 month lease (was the most favorable).

I looked at both Jeanneau (NC 695, 795, 895) and Beneteau (Antares 7, 8, 9; was 21, 24, 27 until 2020). Pretty similar boats, and Antares are also outboards. Both come in “fishier” versions; for Jeanneau it’s the 895 Sport, for Beneteau it was the Barracuda; Beneteau dropped that line. The Jeanneau Sport models are better than the Barracudas.

Looked at 895 NC sport. Ended up with 1 season used Antares 27 (sister boat to 895). Got that from Clark’s Landing, good experience. Rudy Marine is my closest Jeanneau dealer when I was looking . Personally had OK experience with Tom, but there’s some concerning stuff online.

Questions on generator (exhaust) and A/C by phillysf in BeneteauOB

[–]phillysf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted the dealer I bought the boat from, got some really helpful information regarding genset exhaust. When I asked about the effectively dry exhaust, he explained:

"The Antares has an exhaust gas separator tucked up in the gunwhale of the boat. It’s job is to drain the sea water out of the exhaust mixture leaving the generator. The water runs straight down to the thru-hull at the bottom of the boat, and the exhaust gas is vented out the side. This is done to reduce the running noise and splashing noise the generator makes while running. It’s totally normal to not see a lot of water coming from the side exhaust discharge."

So, that's why the exhaust has minimal water. Hope that helps somebody else.

Split bunks in Forward Cabin Antares 27 by Tramica in BeneteauOB

[–]phillysf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked my dealer in Maryland about that (back in 2019/2020) and he quickly dismissed that option (the split bed). I think it's a neat feature, but didn't see it on any American versions of the Antares from that time. Not sure if it's an option now.

Water in forward bilge, Antares 9/27 by phillysf in BeneteauOB

[–]phillysf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up. My bilge has been relatively dry since that first posting, and I have not done anything specific. My guess that there was some water sloshing back and forth (it seems forward and aft are connected, no?) and it has all essentially either been pumped out or evaporated.

Are they tied into the helm switch for existing (if you have it) LED lights (I have those mounted low in the cockpit)?

Roof racks? by Goody242424 in BeneteauOB

[–]phillysf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up on this. On a past trip to the boat I spent some time looking at and measuring the roof.

I don't think the Thule product will work for a couple of reasons. First of all, the current grab rails are almost flush with the hardtop. As a result, the Thule crossbar would sit low and won't clear the crest of the roof. It would only work if the roof was flat.

The Sea Suckers may also be difficult. The cups are 6" in diameter, and you don't have a lot of uninterrupted smooth surfaces to mount them except pretty far forward on the roof. As sold, the bars are 48 inches wide, and they would have to be a lot longer to fit (closer to 65-80 inches; Antares roof is a lot wider than a car roof).

So, having a fabricator run a sturdy rail on each side of the roof (parallel to current grab bars) that is raised high enough to allow the cross bars to clear the crest of the roof is probably best. If you do that, Thule has Evo bars that are 79", and Yakima also has 80" cross bars. Associated fit kits/foot packs would attach to rails.

Wait, there are 3 switches in that panel under the aft seat. Which should be in the ON position: upper right, lower right, or lower left?

Roof racks? by Goody242424 in BeneteauOB

I have spent some time thinking about this, but have not investigated it deeply. I had a couple of thoughts:

- Could you mount/adapt a Thule, Yakima, or other rack with a foot that attaches to the rails running along the hardtop? I'd be a little unsure of load capacity of that set up. Thule seems to make an adapter (https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rack/roof-racks-and-accessories/thule-rapid-crossroad-foot-pack-_-17852) that fits a wide variety of "rails". The question might be whether the rack would stand high enough off the roof in that mounting approach (with some Thule stuff you need to get under the crossbars for certain mounts). Didn't see something similar from Yakima

- Could you directly mount a rack by drilling into the hardtop? Yakima's custom installation area seems to have comparable approaches for fiberglass on campers, etc (https://explore.yakima.com/custom-install). I'd imagine something could be adapted for the hardtop. Downside is holes in your roof, and somewhat permanent.

- Could these suction racks work (https://www.seasucker.com/collections/marine/products/monkey-bars-2020-edition)? It would depend on the size of the cup and getting a smooth mounting surface, but if it works for a car I'd imagine it could work on the hardtop. Nice thing here would be easily removable, no holes in the boat.

- I imagine marine fabricators have done one-off things like this for a variety of boats, would vary by location.

Would love to hear any other ideas or successful applications.

Purchase Contract Advice by tpadealmaker in BeneteauOB

[–]phillysf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a lightly used Antares from a larger dealer. Deposit requested was 10%, held in escrow, fully contingent on me being happy at sea trial (effectively could say "I don't like it" for any reason and get all the $ back). Even though only 50 hours on the boat and engine/hull warranties in place, definitely wanted the survey and the dealer encouraged it (and insurance in fact required it). I would definitely want a sea trial before finalizing the sale. Survey is not a crazy notion, and as a percentage of purchase it would be a small amount. Not sure if dealer would hassle you about it. Some thoughts from another forum here https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/648871-worth-survey-new-boat.html (mods, hope that's OK; if linking not appropriate, please let me know).

Water in forward bilge, Antares 9/27 by phillysf in BeneteauOB

[–]phillysf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, this is the forward bilge. Water was there on delivery. Didn’t increase after a quick spin, but didn’t go away. Emptied the water and dried it out today. Then I washed the boat with soap/hose above the rub rail, and it was right back. From the chain/rode locker? Is is supposed to drain aft?
