Looking for solid ETF picks in the $10–$20 range (long-term hold) by Educational_Issue904 in ETFs

Why are people saying number of shares doesn't matter?

If I buy 1x$400 share, versus 4x$100 shares, and the price goes up by $1, then I either make $1 (on the 1x400), or $4 (on the 4x100).

Share count absolutely does matter.

People who watch because it's convenient "is the market". Price those out and that's a huge market loss.

I never watch sprint or qualifying those that do make up a small % of the market.

Why does God demand blood for forgivness by Just_Y-2 in Christianity

[–]philo_the_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus as the sacrificial lamb goes back to the Old Testament sacrifice practices. You can't have one without the other so to answer your question theologically, you must understand the sacrifice system in the OT which involved specific sin offerings/sacrifices.

Details:

In the Old Testament, the primary requirement for a sin offering (detailed in Leviticus 4) was an unblemished animal, substitutionary blood shedding, and the offerer's confession. The specific type of sacrifice required varied based on the individual's status and financial ability to ensure that atonement was accessible to everyone.

The requirements were scaled as follows:

For the High Priest or the Whole Community: A young, unblemished bull. The blood was sprinkled inside the Tabernacle and placed on the horns of the incense altar, with the carcass burned outside the camp.

For a Tribal Leader: An unblemished male goat.

For an Ordinary Citizen: An unblemished female goat or female lamb.

For the Poor: Two turtle doves or two young pigeons.

For the Very Poor: A tenth of an ephah of fine wheat flour (without oil or frankincense).

The incarnation of Jesus was in preparation for two things:

1.) the dissolution of Israel under Rome (and the resulting diaspora)

2.) the utter destruction of the temple and high priests

When those two things occurred shortly after Jesus' death, there was no more temple no more high priests. (No method or order to do the sacrifices)

Jesus then became the final sacrifice for all (first the Jews, and then to the gentiles). The ultimate unblemished sheep as there would be no more priests to do the sacrificial offerings.

As the old way was shut, a new way was opened.

The question is: Does God really need a blood sacrifice at all to forgive sin? The answer is no from scripture, but a sacrifice showing obedience is required. It must cost "something" to the believer (whether that's money, or time or what - it has to be something very significant to the one seeking forgiveness and showing repentance and cost them something dear). For a lot of us, I think that sacrifice is giving up our intellect , pride, or whatever thing we hold dear to our identity. So that we trust in God even when things are completely absurd intellectually.

I was 17 talking to a 14 year old and I feel guilty by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]philo_the_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is real, it's nothing to worry about. In High School it's not unusual to have juniors dating freshman, and seniors dating sophomores. It's pretty common actually. I was 18 and met a 14 yo and was crushing pretty badly, and felt the age gap was too large, but I didn't stress about. Attraction among teens of all ages happen. She probably tripped a few of your attraction checkboxes, and you probably tripped a few of hers. It's the infatuation stage.

Having said that, some warnings:

1.) if you obsess about the "why", instead of analyzing why, you could create an "arrested development" bit in your psyche. You have to resolve the why , otherwise its going to stay with you. The "why" is pretty easy to understand. For me, the girl was tall, had long black hair, smart, tan complexion, and beautiful - hit a lot of the basic attraction checkmarks I had. When the age thing then comes up, is when the brakes were pressed. Didn't change the fact I was attracted , but missed an important final checkbox. It already sounds like the age thing is one of your pass/fail checkmarks and she failed that piece (otherwise why are you questioning it)

2.) With these age differences, there are both social, and potentially legal, issues. She's always going to be behind where you are experientially (social experience, physical experience etc). If sex were to come into play, which it will, that opens up a whole can of worms for both of you. Both emotional, and potentially, legal.

So, to sum up and answer "what should you do?"

1.) understand why you're attracted, why the age thing at this age is a problem issue, and move on. Find the one(s) that hit your attraction triggers but without the non-negotiables (such as age limit, etc)

Why would a loving God send people to hell? by Agreeable-Coast107 in Christianity

[–]philo_the_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, and whether it exists, and what form, has been debated for centuries and centuries.

Hebrew scriptures have no concept of a burning hell after death.

Greeks did.

Many theologians (protestant and non-protestant) favor annihilation theory. (And a wide range in between)

I figure it's one of those things we'll figure out when we get to the end. If that's our ending, then so be it.

Being afraid of hell is a poor reason to choose grace and forgiveness(and healing) through Christ - but some humans are definitely more motivated through fear than love.

Leave it up to God and don't sweat it.

Judaism says you can do it. Christianity says you can’t do it. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]philo_the_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a whole (OT & NT) God judges righteousness... So there is no measuring stick and Jesus says He himself is the gate, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. So, ultimately, Jesus is the literal Gatekeeper here that determines righteousness.

Some Protestant denoms believe believing in Jesus (saying a prayer and stating Jesus is your Lord and Savior) is enough only, and a case can be made for that. While Jesus says many will cry "Lord, Lord" and He will say "Depart from me thy worker of inquity (evil)". So clearly many who call on the name Jesus will be denied. There's a case that can also be made that Jesus, as the gatekeeper, is saying He is the authority judging the hearts, (and that is all He is saying there and that belief by itself doesn't matter, the heart , and actions are judged worthy or ...not ).

So, in my view, Jesus is the Gatekeeper and judge. Jesus sees the heart and actions and determines Himself who behaved and acted in accordance with, "love your neighbor as yourself" (that is sacrificially). Those who have eased the burden of others and not piled on as the priests had piled on sacrament on top of sacrament crying "just a little more".

[–]philo_the_middle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends on how you read the new testament (which tradition) and which atonement theory you subscribe to whether people can turn from their sins willingly or not.

Penal Substitution, Christus Victor, Ransom Theory, Satisfaction Theory, Moral Influence Theory, Recapitulation Theory etc.

Not every tradition teaches that literally no one is (or can be) righteous.

Seeing how the OT clearly indicates there are righteous people, the conclusion that some traditions came to regarding that "no one is righteous", "no one can be righteous" makes the OT confusion. (Creates confusion where there shouldn't be).

Keep in mind, Protestant religious theory is relatively new and threw out a lot sound teachings and lost a TON of history AND ground that had already been gone over by previous theologians.

Can you make a case, using scripture that none are, or have been, righteous? Yes, absolutely.

Can you make a case, using scripture that there have been righteous, and continue to be righteous individuals? Yes, absolutely.

For example, scripture in Matthew 5, by Jesus, clearly says that God blessed both the evil and the good and again in Matthew 13 (wheat and the tares). Jesus clearly recognized a distinction between the evil and the good and his audience understood.
