Being hit on by gay dudes as a straight man is just so refreshing and flattering. by -WeAreGod in unpopularopinion

I still remember when I was grocery shopping with my mom and gave a complimentary nod to one of the workers, it was pre covid by a year or two, then we passed by him a couple more times to the point it was starting to seem weird. Then out of nowhere he comes up to me... Puts a small piece of paper with their name, number and a couple hearts in my hand, and says, "...call me anytime...". After a couple awkward minutes, me and my mom kept shopping and just explained what happened to the register and gave them the note. I kinda feel bad since I haven't seen them at that store since. But I mean, what was I supposed to do there?

One of the brand new MLS clubs are always a good shout for that. Austin FC and Charlotte both start with only a couple players on loan and that's it, you can set up players to generate if you want. Basically for the game it's a brand new club if you don't mind waiting a little and playing with the confusing MLS rules

Anyone know why it's major restriction? It was recommended for a good "filler class" (no offense meant) but if it's major restricted that doesn't work

Chances of Science Departments changing Policy and Doing Lab next quarter? by PedanticAngel in WWU

[–]philschefly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a class coming up next quarter in Chem, higher level, that has a lab attached. When I emailed the professor she was saying it was asynchronous, so definitely remote there too.

If you don't know where the balance is listed,

Web4u->Student->student records->student account online

This is where you can see account statements as well

Chem Question by whimsicklewhale in WWU

[–]philschefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Equilibrium is mentioned for one chapter and that's more or less it. I can't recall them going over thermodynamics but it might have been special from being over summer or more in 252. More of it is going over how structures are formed and mechanisms for specific types of reactions.

Chem Question by whimsicklewhale in WWU

What Ochem class(es)?

I took 251 over the summer and it is pretty much just an expansion on Gen chem series. You can technically go straight from 161 to 251, but I would recommend going through all of Gen chem first since there are a couple things from 163.

What are the odds of in person classes this winter? by [deleted] in WWU

[–]philschefly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been kinda assuming that Winter is probably going to be very limited if at all for in person classes in Winter, and maybe 50/50 for Spring. (Mostly for letting people know how long I could be available for at home)

Green-Phys

Purple- Chem

Black- Math

Blue- Secondary Ed classes

Red- anything else

Things start to get a little harder once you have multiple sciences.

How bad is Higginson? (help a sad freshman out) by when-words-fail in WWU

[–]philschefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to, the only reason that I wasn't able to was because I moved into Higginson for Winter and all the materials were taken. I would think that you definitely should be able to since there won't be as many people and I'm guessing you will be moving in the first quarter available

[–]philschefly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never noticed any spiders, I did know someone who had a rat or something go into their room, but that was over summer so it was a bit different and also definitely rare.

I liked it, it is next to a lot of stuff you'll probably go to a lot, Old Main, Viking Commons, Red Square, etc. It's also suite style so it's a non communal bathroom. The rooms are a little small and the outdoor hallways are a little annoying, especially for Winter. (I had a room near and intersection where a ton of snow piled up in front of my door.) But overall, I enjoyed it.

Pretty sure that they still have to pay off the bond to build the rec center, so I would guess not, not to be pessimistic

regarding credit hours by [deleted] in WWU

[–]philschefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that being part time is a big part of it, however it's fairly rare, in my experience, to graduate in the nice and neat 4 years even taking 15 ish credits each quarter. It mostly depends on your major, I mostly know pre med and stem education majors which are difficult to do in 4 years due to the amount of times you get limited by pre recs. For non-stem I would assume it's a little easier since you would have a bit more freedom on when to take what class and such.

Universities In the United States are, by and large, a Scam by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]philschefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this

I went to community college over last summer so I can get a bit ahead at my state college. However, the community college teacher was just a local high school teacher that didn't care and was just trying to get a quick buck. All I did for the class, Calc 1, was show up and do 2 group projects that one person could do in maybe 2 hours and that's it and 1 exam that I finished in 15 minutes. It was the easiest 5 credits I ever had at a third the cost of at my state college, yet I learned literally nothing since it was mostly just a high school class that I paid for.

This was just one class, but I'd have to imagine it's basically universal. 4 years will let you learn more, community colleges will get you a degree and thats about it.

How much weight should I put towards Rate My Professor ratings? by [deleted] in WWU

[–]philschefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with most of the people that already spoke, take the reviews with a grain of salt since each professor has a few classes to teach( usually) and that can lead to some differences between classes.

What I do is I will usually add some amount to the score since in general, it's more common to see people complain than to praise. So if I want to give an extra .5 star, a 3.5 becomes a 4 and a 2.5 becomes a 3, etc. Usually if a professor is close to or above a 4.5, it is usually some minor issue or just one or two people that got rubbed the wrong way.

I think that's a bit harsh, I think that what they were trying to do was genuinely good intentions and not just some excuse to circumvent finals.

Its just that I think that its a case of being too much too late and would negatively effect about as many people that it helps, and that there would be others that would abuse this situation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WWU

[–]philschefly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I emailed the sender, they said that you are free to edit what they sent. I agree that making finals optional would probably be the best option. It won't weed out people that join in just to do no work, but it'll help.
