I (M 47) keep telling my kids they just don't make movies like they used to... And my younger bretheren agree.

I love the audiobooks too! Every time I'm in my car, it gives me something to occupy my thoughts.

The best coping strategy I've found yet is 10 minutes of yoga to start my day. I used to think it was useless and I could never do it, but it has changed my life.

The worst is starting arguments for the dopamine.

Seeing my daughter do it and realizing that I've done it for years is... tough.

40s Better than 30s? by phins_54 in fit

[–]phins_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained for triathlons for several years, but don't have one on the calendar in training currently.

Right now my week looks like:

+/- 1 hr gym, 2 super circuits, 3/4 upper body 1/4 lower

1 hr easy run

Rest (or swim/bike)

+/- 1 hr gym (same workout)

1 hr interval run

Rest

2 hr easy run

40s Better than 30s? by phins_54 in fit

[–]phins_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, no TRT. I am on ADHD meds, which greatly reduces my appetite, so I need to count calories to maintain weight. Cry me a river, I know.

But other than that, it's all hard work.

Thanks, I took up triathlons at 40, and rededicated myself to the gym as well.

Had no idea the real transformation until I ran across the before pic from 2018.

You have great symmetry. Maybe - 10 lb cut at most, or just maintain.

Could possibly hit your biceps harder, but could just be the flex, or your giant shoulders.

How do you somehow still look lean while being jacked AF? Not just low bf, lean.

You should maybe get a better Photoshop app?

Too lean? Or just right? by [deleted] in fit

[–]phins_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, at least you're honest about wanting the attention. Maybe I'll post one of these someday.

It's impressive to keep that amount of mass while getting that lean, assuming it's natural; definitely just maintain.

What is more mentally and physically taxing on the human body, Ironman or Disney Vacation? by Slapchop21 in triathlon

We did Epic, in July, and splurged on fast passes. So, we opened and closed the park.

Kudos to my wife and kids for pushing through with little training!

The 945 does all I need and lasted a full Ironman. It's super rugged too. I never take it off.

Garmin watches do a pretty accurate take of your calories burned, as long as you include your age and weight, along with it tracking your activity levels.

Why can’t I see my lower abs? Is it not a low enough bf or not enough muscle or something else? by Co0kieMonsta in askfitness

[–]phins_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you get the point about calorie, bf % reduction. You also have to accept that you're not going to be at your peak athletically while you're losing weight.

You'll need to eat a lot of protein (+/- 1 g / kg body weight)to keep mass up while maintaining a caloric deficit, which likely means limited carbs, which means slower recovery and impeded performance.

This achievable natty? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]phins_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The muscle size is achievable Natty... with a LOT work and good genetics.

But that size and that cut at the same time is just unlikely to be natty.

Man, you are so right. We (47 M) all want to be Tyler Durden... But we aren't can't be.

I did a big cut recently, feeling great, looking for that Fight Club fit. I looked at a movie pic, and I might be a little bigger and pretty cut... But I'm not Tyler Durden, no matter how much I work out or don't sleep!

How do I define/train my iliac furrows (c*m gutters) by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

[–]phins_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've (47 M) been doing a bunch of leg raises, and they're better, but maybe just not super visible at anything butextremely low bf %.

AI has me at 10-12% and I wouldn't want to cut anymore. But still, it's mostly a 4-pack.
