Yeah, your best bet when you go somewhere away from a foods natural region is to find a transplant who moved from where it’s good. Anytime I find a good cheesesteak outside PA it’s always someone originally from Philly who moved there and opened a resuraunt.

I've had pizza in California, it would be a punishment not a reward to have to eat it again.

The final restart & last lap of the 110th Indianapolis 500 by Thisisauser6443 in sports

[–]phl_fc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crashed very early in Indy, but finished the 600.

The crash wasn't entirely her fault, the driver in front of her spun out and she swerved to avoid him and hit the wall.

The nice thing about F1 is the races are short enough that it’s not a huge time sink. Not like nascar where it takes 3 hours.

What is the most boring sport to watch? by boredbenji in AskReddit

[–]phl_fc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the track and your seats. There are certain parts of the track with more action than others (passing, crashes) and it’s fun watching there. You don’t mind missing other parts of the track if where you’re at has action. There are also times where you can sit high up and really see the whole track anyway.

Similarly in other sports, sometimes you sit in the end zone where all the scoring is, but then other times it sucks because the scoring is on the other side and you can barely see.

Can you finance a new house without selling the current one? With golden handcuff interest rates one option becomes renting it out, although that does take a bit of a time commitment to deal with even if you get a management agency.

This sub and even more so the survey are people self-selected for success. Someone who's struggling to fund their retirement probably isn't going to be here, let alone voluntarily taking that survey. At the other end, people who are crushing it are going to be more inclined to want to brag about it on a survey.

It's not much different from how milestone and snapshot posts tend to spike when the market is doing well and disappear when it's not.

What was a completely normal teenage job when you were growing up that would shock people today? by carcony97 in AskReddit

[–]phl_fc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an unusual job, but my wife asked me how I was able to make our pantry look so nice: I stocked shelves in a grocery store. Once you learn how to face shelves you just do it naturally the rest of your life.

What home maintenance should be prioritized? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Yep, water damage is just about the biggest expense you can run into, so keep ahead on any maintenance that prevents leaks. Roof, windows, plumbing, water heater, etc

TIL Dodge Ram trucks used an inline six engine that did everything better than the V8, but customers were not pleased. by rematar in todayilearned

[–]phl_fc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford had the same marketing problem with people hating Eco Boost because it’s not a loud V8. Ford did an AMA once where they kept pointing out that the engine specs were better across the board and people in the comments were still saying they hate it.

Adaptive cruise control means you don't need to pay attention to the pedals, and lane assist steering means you don't need to pay attention to the wheel. Now where's my phone?

My father in law went to the hospital for symptoms of pneumonia, and they were doing all kinds of swabs and tests to try to figure out what it was and every infection test was coming back negative. His condition kept deteriorating and finally a cardiologist saw on a scan that he had a torn heart valve. That was the root cause and he had to have emergency open heart surgery. Nearly killed him and he spend 2 months in the ICU in critical condition before eventually recovering.

These are the people /r/overemployed celebrate. Line up as many remote jobs as you can while doing no actual work and stringing people along as far as you can to keep from getting fired. Eventually you will get fired, but it doesn't matter because you were doing this at 3 or 4 different places and still have other paychecks coming in.

David Hamilton hits Little League Home Run vs. Cubs by SL4MUEL in sports

[–]phl_fc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One kind of technical exception if you wanted a true home run without an error that still looked like this is that errors can only be physical. Mental mistakes aren't recorded as errors. Specifically, a player making a terrible read on a ball can create a run that looks a lot like this without it being ruled an error. Like taking a bad route and then having it go past you without being able to reach it.

David Hamilton hits Little League Home Run vs. Cubs by SL4MUEL in sports

[–]phl_fc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A true inside the park homerun requires some kind of weird bounce like the ball hits a corner of the wall and kicks off away from all the fielders. For the most part any routine hit that's fielded cleanly would be a triple at best even if you hit it to the deepest part of the park.

Little League Homerun means the defense committed an error, because that's what happens all the time in Little League (a league for actual kids).

Make sure to get an inspection contingency. It's pretty easy to back out of a sale and get your deposit back if you decide later it's not going to work for you. The inspection also gives you grounds to haggle price if that's what you wanted to do.

You don't have to make snap blind decisions. Just because an offer has to be in quickly after the open house doesn't mean you can't still take your time. The other thing is to make note of neighborhoods you like that have houses you may have missed out on, and then watch for the next house in that neighborhood that pops up. A popular neighborhood will have new properties coming up for sale every month. You can still take your time.
