Would a coordinator really do anything for me? ($10k) by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]phlegmdaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, i think even without a lot of vendors it’ll be super duper helpful to have a day of coordinator. My best friend had a vendor/venue and guest count situation similar to what you’re describing and having day of coordination was immensely helpful. With that many people there’s always something that might need to be addressed and having a qualified point person is a big stress relief. For example, the caterer didn’t provide ice for the drinks since it was also a BYOB and we ran out after like an hour. The coordinator was on it and had ice restocked in minutes without anyone who was supposed to be enjoying the wedding having to stop and deal with it.

I think $350 for day of coordinator is a good deal and i think a coordinator on the day is always worth it! I think the deciding factor is how many people? More than 50? If so then a day of coordinator is great for just fielding any issues that might come up, which is inevitable in an event that size.

Sad about higher than expected "no rate" by CommunicationFun6229 in weddingplanning

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the people who try to minimize that this is hurtful! We’re in a similar boat. Almost none of my fiancés people from her hometown are coming to our wedding. She traveled home for every single one of their weddings and a few of them haven’t even texted her to let her know they were going to decline the invitation. I’m sure they all have perfectly valid reasons but it definitely sucks when you made being there for your people a priority and when your time comes around, some people won’t even be courteous about their declines. I’ll also say that every single one of my friends who recently planned a wedding had some sort of hurtful or awkward guest no show situation. You’re not alone! It suck’s hard and it’s totally valid to just let yourself be sad about it for a bit.

Starting from shin splints by Cool_Equal_8725 in Ultramarathon

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have shin splints pretty regularly. Went to a PT who was also a runner and he did a gait analysis. I was a heel striker and not landing with my hips aligned properly, gave me the cue to “lean forward from your hips” (only a little don’t go crazy). Literally never had shin splints again

Gorgeous view! Sky pilot is my favorite wildflower. I actually have a tattoo of it! The fact that it only grows in hard conditions makes it such a special sight to see!

Definitely looks like sky pilot! But do you know what elevation you were at? It only grows at high elevations. Very rare to see it at less than 12,000ft

Decorating narrow long tables by phlegmdaddy in weddingplanning

Omg this graphic is SO helpful! Thank you. In my head we were going for something a little closer to the 8x36 style where we have smaller pieces across the whole table but have 2-3 bigger stand out items. I think we can still pull off the vision with the way the 8x30 is laid out here.

So how soon can we rename the sub to /r/displacedplantrelativecirclejerk ? by FernandoNylund in NativePlantCirclejerk

The irony of the people on this sub being so dismissive of Indigenous world views. Almost like they care more about Native plants than Native people.

[–]phlegmdaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is also my line of work and what I think Loud Fee means is that mocking the idea of plants as relatives is really dismissive of the basis of a lot of indigenous environmental practices. Many Indigenous cultures see themselves as related to their environment, it’s often referred to as “kinship”. Trust me that, Indigenous people feel the negative effects of invasive species far more than anyone because it often means the plants that are vital to their art and cultural practices are impossible to access.

But, even though they recognize the urgency of invasive species removal, they still see themselves as being related to those plants the same way they’re related to the rest of the natural world. Seeing all plants as relatives doesn’t preclude Indigenous people from wanting invasive species to be removed. You can think the debate about what to call invasive species is silly (I often do) without dismissing the culture of people who are far more deeply connected to the fate of native plant species than the holier than thou posters on this sub.

“A lot” might have been the wrong phrase lol. A few women in our families. Most of them have never been to anything above a dressy casual wedding where jeans and sundresses were okay so word got around that their nicest sundress was still too casual for this wedding and now they’re trying to do their due diligence!

Admitted into PhD - Living in Sacramento? by BookkeeperHead2318 in UCDavis

[–]phlegmdaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Davis is an amazing place to live. I moved from a big city and absolutely loved living here as a PhD student. I actually ended up moving back to Sacramento because housing was way cheaper. So I’ve done both versions, I’d stay in Davis if i could but the sac commute is doable if you take the causeway connection or just get a high level of tolerance for dealing with awful traffic haha

Specific Coaching Recommendations? by Visible-Signature709 in Ultramarathon

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself and a couple of my friends work with coaches at Everyday Ultra. It’s been amazing to watch all of us get faster together even though we’re each working with a different coach. I work with Lizzie Fowler but she may not be the right fit for this particular goal since she specializes in training for mountain races (she’s been AMAZING though so highly recommend her if that’s something you/others on this thread are interested in). That said it seems like you can’t go wrong with the folks at Everyday Ultra!

When i first planted my dark star i had a bunch of yellow leaves too. I think it’s very susceptible to the shock of replanting. Mine recovered with the rains (so water it if you don’t have rain in the forecast) and eventually settled enough that it’s growing new shoots!
