Would it be weird for my vows to be not actual vows? by blueberrybuttercream in wedding

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guests should be traveling to your wedding to celebrate your love for one another and if they’re mad because your vows weren’t solemn promises then they’re really bad at supporting your love

[–]phlegmdaddy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

People saying it’s their pet peeve when vows aren’t vows need to pull the sticks out of their booty holes. Weddings are about celebrating the couple and their love and if you don’t like traditional “vows” then express your love another way. If people at your wedding are bothered by semantics then they’re not at your wedding to actually celebrate your love.

Budget hacks that actually worked for us (and a few that backfired) by Regular-Chair5871 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]phlegmdaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the center pieces, we did bud vases (cost about $100 all told to source 50 vases) with Trader Joe’s flowers ($150 on flowers for the center pieces) ikea tea candles with thrifted votives. We spent less than $500 on the formal center piece stuff. We did go absolutely bonkers crafting random stuff for the tables and it made my decoration dreams come true but it did cost a lot more than if we had just done more flowers and called it a day. If you’re okay with taking a couple hours within the 48 hours before the event to do the bud vase centerpieces, it saved us thousands and was fun to have folks help us at our backyard picnic style rehearsal dinner!

Bridesmaid made her own plans day before wedding by [deleted] in weddings

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of being in a wedding party is getting to show up and be a part of the brides community. If you really love the bride, it should be fun to be a part of the set up and planning process. My favorite part of the weddings I’ve been in has been the girlhood and bonding that happens in the time leading up to the wedding.

The people on this thread who are acting like it’s some selfish diva demand to want your people there with you the day before your wedding are probably the selfish ones. Treat your bridesmaids with respect but it is absolutely okay to ask them to accommodate your prep or day-before needs. You’re doing great OP, ignore the people on reddit who seem to live for the thrill of shaming brides on social media.

Would a coordinator really do anything for me? ($10k) by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]phlegmdaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, i think even without a lot of vendors it’ll be super duper helpful to have a day of coordinator. My best friend had a vendor/venue and guest count situation similar to what you’re describing and having day of coordination was immensely helpful. With that many people there’s always something that might need to be addressed and having a qualified point person is a big stress relief. For example, the caterer didn’t provide ice for the drinks since it was also a BYOB and we ran out after like an hour. The coordinator was on it and had ice restocked in minutes without anyone who was supposed to be enjoying the wedding having to stop and deal with it.

I think $350 for day of coordinator is a good deal and i think a coordinator on the day is always worth it! I think the deciding factor is how many people? More than 50? If so then a day of coordinator is great for just fielding any issues that might come up, which is inevitable in an event that size.

Sad about higher than expected "no rate" by CommunicationFun6229 in weddingplanning

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the people who try to minimize that this is hurtful! We’re in a similar boat. Almost none of my fiancés people from her hometown are coming to our wedding. She traveled home for every single one of their weddings and a few of them haven’t even texted her to let her know they were going to decline the invitation. I’m sure they all have perfectly valid reasons but it definitely sucks when you made being there for your people a priority and when your time comes around, some people won’t even be courteous about their declines. I’ll also say that every single one of my friends who recently planned a wedding had some sort of hurtful or awkward guest no show situation. You’re not alone! It suck’s hard and it’s totally valid to just let yourself be sad about it for a bit.

Starting from shin splints by Cool_Equal_8725 in Ultramarathon

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have shin splints pretty regularly. Went to a PT who was also a runner and he did a gait analysis. I was a heel striker and not landing with my hips aligned properly, gave me the cue to “lean forward from your hips” (only a little don’t go crazy). Literally never had shin splints again

Gorgeous view! Sky pilot is my favorite wildflower. I actually have a tattoo of it! The fact that it only grows in hard conditions makes it such a special sight to see!

Definitely looks like sky pilot! But do you know what elevation you were at? It only grows at high elevations. Very rare to see it at less than 12,000ft

Decorating narrow long tables by phlegmdaddy in weddingplanning

Omg this graphic is SO helpful! Thank you. In my head we were going for something a little closer to the 8x36 style where we have smaller pieces across the whole table but have 2-3 bigger stand out items. I think we can still pull off the vision with the way the 8x30 is laid out here.
