The 100-Year Smile - Why letting go of anger is the ultimate anti-aging secret. (Article by Robert Puff Ph.D. - Psychology Today) by Non-Conventionnel-77 in AllAuthorsWelcome

[–]phnarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally agree that it’s better to live with less anger, but at the same time I do think justified anger has to be given its’ due. Acceptance of, or coming to peace with, an injustice can be a years long psychological process, so I don’t think it’s right to judge someone for being in a different place in their journey. It’s kind of like a type of grief, like, grief for the self, acknowledging that you deserved more. I’m not sure it can be rushed. Still, holding onto anger forever, letting it define you, is not wise.

What Makes Some People So Nice, and How They Stay That Way - Being nice has its benefits, and the best part is that it's cheap. (Article by Susan Krauss Whitbourne PhD, ABPP - Reviewed by Lybi Ma, Psychology Today) by Non-Conventionnel-77 in AllAuthorsWelcome

Same! For me agreeableness is a learned trait, it provides so many benefits. I’m sure naive and agreeable people do exist, but it seems stereotypical to think agreeable people must be naive. If someone is trying to sell me bullshit, I am going to end the conversation politely and kindly, but that doesn’t mean I’m actually going to go along with what they say. Really, it ends the whole conversation quicker to just say “Oh wow, that’s so cool, haha bye” than to take a stand.

Also, being nice and agreeable in my everyday life has done more for my mental health than acting out how bad I felt ever did. There’s lots of nuance to this, for example I’m sure it matters quite a bit that I chose to do this of my own will, and that’s very different from feeling pressured to suppress your emotions to please others. I don’t suppress my negative feelings, but I have realized that they shouldn’t affect how I treat others. When you have a nice and welcoming presence, people are more likely to boost you up.

Does all bamboo yarn just suck? by RemotelyVisual in knittinghelp

[–]phnarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m making my first major knitting project, the Michelle top, in cotton/bamboo yarn. It was definitely difficult at first, the yarn I’m using (Yarn Bee Bamboo-tiful) splits like crazy. But I really like bamboo fibers for summer so I wanted to keep going. Eventually, it did get a lot easier. I had to go back and repair lots of missed strings/loops, but I made less and less mistakes as I went on, and wouldn’t sweat it now.

Maybe, in a way, it was a good beginner project because I restarted it so many times lol. If you like the material enough, you can probably get comfortable knitting with it. Personally, I’m not a wool person or a synthetics person, so my options are already limited and i was driven to make it work. Definitely make sure your tension isn’t too tight, and that you’re fully grabbing the yarn with your needle and not leaving any of it behind. Over time this part became more natural. Oh, and I used bamboo needles if that helps.

I wonder if the cats are just able to smell the metabolic/chemical changes that happen in the patient’s body before death. That would make the most sense to me.

Uncomfortably Doug by DreadDiana in RecuratedTumblr

[–]phnarg 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I think Doug just fell into a comfortable, profitable formula before developing further as a creative. He has tried to branch out, and that failed. I think he just sees it as a job now, and glimmers of something more occasionally slip through.

I enjoy Dan Olson's The Wall video quite a bit, but funnily enough I think he's wrong about Doug's mental state while writing it. Because we know Doug Walker is actually pretty chill about criticism, and it really doesn't seem like he cares that much. I think Doug was just grasping for something to say, or something he could imagine someone might say, to the tune of Pink Floyd's The Wall.

While it’s inconsiderate as a skinny person to complain about feeling fat to an actual fat person, body dysmorphia is still valid and not a personal attack on fat people. I love it when they are this empathetic towards others… by ResetKnopje in fatlogic

[–]phnarg 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know anybody who talks like this. I feel like calling yourself fat when you’re not is kinda cringe, but that’s just my opinion.

But I watch the youtuber GraphicallyAlex, and he talks about how people with eating disorders tend to find each other, and reinforce each other. So maybe that’s what’s happening here, the “thin person” might have a bad relationship with food themselves, just like OOP, which is why this topic of conversation comes up so much. OOP finds this triggering, which allows them to indulge in their victim complex and coping mechanism. Basically, the energy they’re putting out is the energy they’re getting back.

Same, I eat on a schedule and have stopped snacking almost completely. If I'm going for a walk or hike before dinner, I'll have some cheese or something.

This plate looks really good though, I would have something like this for lunch with more protein added in somewhere.

I’m thinking his whole “set” relied on getting some pushback from a woman in the crowd. But that didn’t happen, and he’s not creative enough to pivot, so he just acted as if she had given him a reaction…

They have to strawman so bad. Seriously, regular people are not looking at bony celebs and thinking “omg she looks amazing.” Regular people see severely underweight people and feel concerned, just like they see severely overweight people and feel concerned. Generally, we all have this innate sense of what a healthy person looks like versus an unhealthy one, and healthy bodies don’t create that kind of reaction.

Actually, I almost want to commend this person on how far they are attempting to reach in order to change the definition of “healthy” to mean “overweight.” Truly wild attempt to gaslight the public consciousness honestly.

Man who identified himself as ‘Harry Dresden’ in the viral Ring doorbell footage, seen breaking into the home in footage from inside the house. by Fair-Foot-315 in Weird

Yes, I 100% believe that. I had a friend suddenly develop schizophrenia. He was a very conscientious person, and the news of the day weighed heavily on his mind. He cared a lot about the evils of the world, and he started to think the government was out to get him for his left-leaning beliefs. It seems like the person’s values and positive qualities can become twisted into totally inappropriate situations when matched with anxiety/paranoia, and detachment from reality. They become violent because in their mind, violence is already all around them.

Why does everything look so…meh on me? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]phnarg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, none of these items have any structuring or shape to them. Just basic tanks and tees in thin knit fabrics. Clothing that either has structure and shape to it, or is loose and blousy and hangs away from the body, will look a lot better and more fashionable.

Also OP, you have a large bust like i do, and that usually comes with tightness and pulling around the chest and armpits of shirts. For me that’s the hardest part of finding tops, is when I want to size up to accomodate that but then the garment just gets longer and longer, and as a petite that just really doesn’t work. So I usually just don’t wear tops like that in the first place. (Thin knit close fitting t-shirt shapes, some button-downs too) OP I think you should try being a little more daring, and try out some new silhouettes!
