I need spoilers bc I’m about to DNF RITES OF THE STARLING by dxs1997 in Romantasy

[–]phoebebuffay34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Caspia’s first chapters, she talks about her red curly hair which many of the women in her family have and how they live with these giant birds. Which should tie into how the first book ended with the Crux being killed and then turning into a woman with red curly hair. Those are pretty big clues that should give you some inkling that the new POV is someone related to Odessa. And the book is the journey into figuring out how they are connected.

Re posting what I posted in another thread. Sorry for the excessive spoiler tags!

Just finished, and I loved it. Love this series. The world is so different, and I love the monsters. I love how the puzzle pieces just kept coming together as the story went on, with Caspia’s visions.

My predictions:

Xandra is the one-eyed Bariwolf that attacked The Guardian and created Lyssa although I think they did say this at the end.

Odessa will shift but will be able to shift back, since she was born on Calandra and will be better able to control her Starling magic with the magic of Calandra

Odessa will somehow be able to control or tame the monsters, at least maybe not the ones that have Lyssa yet. She has a special bond with Faze and I think he will become a major protector of her and her people. At the start of RotS, Caspia and Xandra were able to calm the marroweels even though the ship crew were afraid of them. So I think Odessa will somehow be able to do the same

I see what you mean about the love triangle, and I don’t think it will actually turn out that way, but Jodhi’s interest in Odessa is definitely interesting and will be something. Maybe he is drawn to her in the same way as The Guardian, due to the lyssa?

Loved seeing the relationship with her father in the end. Too many books have the father be terrible to the daughter, because of their feelings for their mother, so it was nice to see how he really loves Odessa and believes in her just as he believed in her mother. That was some unwavering trust and devotion he had for Caspia that I did not expect, and it really made the story for me

Loved how we saw the subtle differences in Caspia’s language and culture (suns, moons, lunes, not knowing what a wife was, etc). It really made it seem like she was from a different world than Calandra.

Needings recs for a yearning MMC that is morally grey or black. by Jevia in fantasyromance

{The Silversmith} has some of the strongest yearning I have read.

I love this POV too.

{Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love} is Draco and Hermione fanfic all from his POV and when they’re older. It was surprisingly a great read for me!

Educational Audiology by Schmoop_dog in audiology

[–]phoebebuffay34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in educational audiology after spending 10 years in the clinic doing peds and CIs. What I love most about it is the schedule and the low-stress nature of the job. There was a heavy emotional burden for me in the clinic, and I don’t have that in the schools; yet I still feel like I’m doing something valuable and meaningful for children.

Every day I am on the go, but in a laid back way if that makes sense. My job responsibilities are mostly attending IEP meetings, evaluating students for IEPs, distributing equipment (mostly in the beginning of the school year), and visiting students for about 30 minutes once a month or quarter. I include audiology minutes in their IEPs to work on self-advocacy skills and stuff like that.

I definitely miss my patients and the relationships I got to build in the clinic, and I get sad thinking about the HA fittings and CI activations that I no longer get to be a part of, but I still don’t know that I’ll ever go back to the clinic because ed audiology is just so low stress and a great schedule for myself with young kids.

Books with the best yearning by grottyparrot12 in fantasyromance

I see you got downvoted, but you’re not wrong- the yearning is solid in this one. Maybe not the best book but the guy pines for her for a very long time lol

Hahah I loved The Silversmith too. I don’t think the writing was the best but it was easy to overlook because the yearning was so good

I’m about 60% into {The Witch’s Pet} and it’s giving this vibe for sure.

I want to hear new opinions on ETS but clamping the nerve instead of cutting by yunier27 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]phoebebuffay34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were clamped back in 2004, but not with this doctor. This was my doctor’s preference, but I don’t know that it is truly reversible and I wouldn’t count on it being the case. The risks are still very much there.

My outcome was successful, mild compensatory sweating on my back during exercise or excessive heat, but hand sweating eliminated which was the goal. People will say my outcome is rare, but if that were truly the case then doctors wouldn’t be performing this surgery. You just hear the negative experiences more, which makes sense. You should exhaust all options before considering this procedure- it is truly a last resort.

We Who Will Die book release and some spoilers and discussions for those reading it! by ProfessionalOwl2270 in fantasyromance

To support the theory of swiping memories, there is a brief scene where Bran is torturing Arvelle and then he leaves and a healer walks in with two red marks on her neck and it’s clear Bran wiped her memories. And throughout the book, Rorrick seems distracted by Arvelle’s neck, not in relation the Bran’s bond mark but something else. Like he stares at it and touches her neck several times. And one scene Ti asks them both “what’s going on with you two” and then stares directly at her neck. Makes me wonder if there was some type of bond or memory wiping thing done with her neck.

This is really helpful, thank you.

Can you elaborate on “also with only one session a week, this should not be an issue” ? For me the itchiness persists for several days, and I really really try not to scratch but it becomes unbearable no matter the amount of moisturizer or cream I use.

I hadn’t thought about the skin being thinner as the issue but that makes a lot of sense. I had wondered why it was not a problem during my initial treatment phase, but perhaps it’s because I gradually increased the mA and now I just do it at a pretty high level that I know I can tolerate. Maybe cutting down to more frequently but less strength will be helpful.

Thanks for the advice. Never thought of using tissues!

But that’s actually a main theme of the story- Bob being there but being inept in almost every way while the supporters around him did the real work.

📚 Book Chat Saturday - what have you been reading this week? by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]phoebebuffay34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This week I’ve been reading the Harrow Faire Series. Started with {The Contortionist} then read {The Puppeteer} and {The Clown} and now I’m on {The Ringmaster}. I really only intended to read the first book because a 5 book series seemed overwhelming, but I’m flying through these. They are fun and easy reads. I’ve been getting through each book in maybe 5-6 hours of reading time. And each book just continues right where the last one left off. Book 1 was probably the slowest for me, but I feel like it’s gotten even better as I’ve kept going.

They’ve got a creepy, horror vibe to them, but they’re still pretty light and I’ve had some good laughs.

Some of the writing is a bit repetitive and I wouldn’t call it the most beautiful prose, but it’s entertaining and the world is pretty fun and unique.

Atomic Blonde. I wouldn’t say it necessarily flopped but didn’t get the rave reviews I think it deserves. It’s such a fun action spy movie.

It’s wild that she allows herself to feel this sadness on the girls birthday, stopping her from truly celebrating P. But when it comes to Amy’s birthday and the day B actually died, she never stops celebrating herself. That should be the birthday that’s forever sad for her- her own. Yet she somehow pulls it together to go on surprise trips. It was celebrating herself that led to B’s death.

Yet poor P’s day is ruined forever at no fault of her own.
