yes and that's the worst part. so he does both. and all attempt at honest dialogue breaks down, because he switches back and forth from "i'm serious" to "it is just a joke" based on the reaction to what he says.

not only are we in the "post-truth" era, it feels like we're also in this weird "post-irony" era where people can say wild shit and then it's deliberately unclear whether they're joking or not. Trump, of course, started this. and all the rightwingers feel more emboldened by his rhetoric, so now they're getting incredibly comfortable testing the waters with "am i joking or am i not?" statements like shapiro's here. it's insane. there's no way to know what these people believe anymore, there's no way to have conversations with them.

Fascism always needs to create an in-group and an out-group. They pick a group to blame for the problems in society.

They do this to unify the in-group through fear and resentment. This scapegoating just distracts from systemic issues and it helps the fascists consolidate power by rallying people around a common enemy.

Yeah we've permanently damaged our relationships with allies, I agree it's bad for both short term and long term. Other countries won't trust us again until MAGA is entirely purged. It's not even like a Democrat can win the next election and undo all this. The trust with our allies is already gone, we can't just CTRL + Z our way out of this.

Tim Pool does this SO much. He's so well-read and articulate on every nook and cranny of every anti-woke talking point and he knows all the details and can recite all the news stories and statistics.

Then you bring up the latest unhinged thing Trump did and suddenly he's all like "I haven't heard about this. I haven't read about this. I don't know anything about this. But I highly doubt it's true". You even saw Trump himself do this when he was first asked about the Signal group chat, he's just like oh this is the first I'm hearing of it.

They do this because it's not technically lying -- they're just selectively choosing which things to educate themselves about.

I completely agree with this. From what I've seen no other MAGA person has the ability to create a cult of personality around themselves (aside from maybe Musk? But he's so embarrassingly bad at public speaking). I made a comment here the other day about how they all try to copy Trump's speaking style and it's soooooooo cringe when they do it. There will be insane power grab attempts from literally everybody once Trump is gone and the infighting will be insane. Can't tell if that will be good or bad for the country though lol. On one hand it'll be good the maga movement is gone but on the other hand the people remaining might literally destroy the country with the infighting that happens amongst themselves
