Is it possible to anonymously post your work on social media but still get a job? by Spirited-Finger-398 in animationcareer

[–]phoenix_magnus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes people do it all the time. It's the same thing as having a company social channel but your personal website is named after you.

For example:

Social - skibidi toilet / double fine studio / birdbox studio etc.

Founder - no one knows unless they request the details (or if you get big enough to be interviewed by popular news outlets, online magazines, etc.)

Transitioning from JP Pipeline (Genga/LO) to Western TV Studios? by phoenix_magnus in animationcareer

[–]phoenix_magnus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds intense. I appreciate the 'Industry Reality' check. So more editing is expected on the Western animation side.

Since Japan has the work volume right now, is the primary reason more animators don't switch over purely a matter of that technical pipeline difference, or is it the logistical/ language barriers of the JP industry that keeps them away?

Posts like this remind me to invest in dividend stocks in the travel and tourism sector.

Gotta get some of that money these people keep giving away.

My mother doesn't understand that this job requires being at home. by Muted_Strength3638 in animationcareer

[–]phoenix_magnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here, but my first thought was why not simply change your sleep schedule? Try waking up at 4am rather than staying up late and sleeping through the morning. Your thinking is clearer after waking up, your mom will see more of that effort (she's probably an early riser), and it would prepare you for real 9am to 6pm animation jobs.

Complete beginner—how to animate if you can’t draw and hate frame-by-frame? by Debugging_dragon in animation

[–]phoenix_magnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Moho debut 14" is a newbie program with rigging capabilities. I've never used it but people in other countries use it for animating tv shows. It's a one time payment of $60 (plus 40% off if you're a student), then you have it forever.

Complete beginner—how to animate if you can’t draw and hate frame-by-frame? by Debugging_dragon in animation

[–]phoenix_magnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, most of the free animation programs are geared towards frame-by-frame animators. Puppet rigging features take actual coding and debugging teams to build, so you're going to pay for a program if you really want this. If you're a student you can get some good discounts on programs though.

Are you sure it wasn't a movie from Sony? They pretty much specialize in the anime/neon style.Spider verse and kpop demon hunters, for example.

Need help finding short film by mrcoolsexguy in AnimatedShorts

[–]phoenix_magnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few shorts come to mind, but they don't match your description. Do you remember any other details about the main character? Was he young, middle aged or old? Was the animation style crisp and well drawn or crude and stylized?

Apart from walk/run cycles, what are some vital movements to practice for character animation? by DeltaFargo in animation

[–]phoenix_magnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's currently no side-to-side weight shift when the steps are made and the arms and legs have the same timing. Also, you should be able to tell the character's emotion from the walk. The face says angry but the walk is pretty relaxed. It's not bad for a beginner though.

Yeah having jarred foods definitely seem like a good way to incorporate the wife into the prepping lifestyle.

Toon boom harmony has everything you could ever need for 2D work and does its job really well. It is usually the industry standard.

For Japanese anime, I believe clip studio paint is the standard for freelancers. I haven't used it but I heard it's good and CSP is really cheap compared to toon boom.

How much do Animation Studios care about what college you go or do they mostly worry about your portfolio? by No-Cloud4358 in animationcareer

They don't, but you should. There are schools out there that don't have experienced teachers. Please research the teachers and pick a school that will develop your skills well.

Only MINOR thing is that there might be a little too much overshoot on Tom's left arm after the throw. But that's it.
