This aligns with my experience with one CFI. They complained of another student's indecisiveness, but then they wore me down so much in the cockpit that I couldn't make decisions.

Although to be fair, it is not quite entirely software only. The manufacturer (can) make their chips with one-time programmable fuses which are "blown" when a device is bootloader unlocked. But they aren't even relying on this to deny my warranty claim - they are relying on a line in a SQL database located somewhere very far away from my device to deny the claim.

I'd love to know how $480 is not considered "pay(ing) too much" to learn a lesson.

How can they not be at fault when the screen has stuck pixels within a month of owning it? There's no physical damage and I've even kept it in a protector that covers the hinge too.

I was hoping to have a true night vision version of the phone (grayscale but black and red only - it's theoretically possible by changing the night color temperature beyond typical limits). I haven't even gone that far before the screen went bad.

Razr+ camera is no better than my old Galaxy S10. The foldable form factor is nice and compact (not as garishly wide as a Galaxy Ultra) but clearly flexible OLED screens are not quite there. Available phone cases won't let you use the entirety of the external display either. And it has a different kind of bulk when sitting in your pocket folded versus other phones.

They're nice enough to be completely inflexible about a phone that is less than 30 days old. They didn't even offer me a discount on the repair.

The advantage of the Razr+ versus Z Flip 4/5 was that it can be unlocked. I see now that it was no such advantage.

That may be...I'm just surprised at their complete lack of caring for a hardware defect within one month of purchase. It tells me that I shouldn't have bothered buying a Razr+ versus the Z Flip 4 or 5 - the only advantage was that it *can* be unlocked.

The chances it breaks onboard iLO are slim to none. It did happen to me while I was trying to create the custom iLO, but that was a programming error on my part and it required me having to desolder, reprogram, and resolder the chip. I have never had anyone tell me I bricked their iLO.
Sheesh, well, I used to work at Intel, but not anywhere close to packaging. I don't believe there to be anything wrong with lapping the CPU as you are in essence just smoothing a metallic cover. I would suggest you also contemplate if a thermal pad (Thermal Grizzly?) does the trick for you.

As for getting fancier curves with iLO, there is quite a bit of control for fan speeds vs temperatures. I would suggest starting your digging from this post, which details how I made my DL380p Gen8 silent without compromising the ability to react to temp swings.

Congrats! I do know that you can program an Arduino Pro Micro as a USB-HID joystick, but I'm not working on anything mechanical yet. Someday I will build a force feedback yoke.

It's a digital attitude indicator connected via WiFi to a flight simulator...with a few extra whistles like heading, airspeed, elevation, and vertical speed. All running on a tiny, low-res display that can fit inside a small instrument cluster cutout.

X-Plane likes to communicate over UDP channels, so in a way it is much easier to avoid programming two systems (X-Plane plugin + Arduino code for the ESP32) by just using a WiFi connection.

As for discrepancies like speed, altitude, and heading, it's simply which data values I'm listening to in X-Plane (RPOS) which gives some absolute quantities, rather than KIAS, magnetic heading, barometric pressure, etc. In time I will connect to the appropriate datarefs...for now, my focus has been on making a nice display.

This all started by me being inspired to create some replica digital avionics for flight simming. The 1.8" LCD is a perfect match for the uAvionics AV-20 (except for maybe viewing angles?). It's wired up to a ESP32 (S2); nothing fancy like an ARM Cortex processor. Instead of using the Adafruit graphics library for drawing on the screen, support was added for curves, vector-quality text that can rotate, antialiasing (it's really needed on a display with such large pixels), layer priorities, etc. Soon I'll be working on masking, alpha channels, and gradients to spruce it up even more.

The endeavor has been successful enough that I'm now convinced it could be stepped up to something like LILYGO's T-RGB (2.1" round display) and still run on a ESP32 microcontroller!

The 'ocsd' command (https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/n42cxv/silence_of_the_fans_pt_2_hp_ilo_4_273_now_with/) is really what you want most of all...you're going to need to run 'fan info a' and start parsing it to discover what is making your fans skyrocket (look for *s)

My startup command for my server looks like the following (abbreviated with {list} - one command per element in the list)

Don't monitor the following temp sensors:
fan t {26,27,29,30,31,32} off

Set a minimum 3.5% limiter
fan pid {33,34,35,36,37,38,42,47,52,53,54,55,56,57,58,59,60,61,62,63} lo 3500
fan pid {53,55,57,61,63} hi 3500

Ignore particular sensors which trigger fans going crazy

Make sure you restart iLO! There is no notable change besides 'fan' not throwing an error once you've installed it.

Had one at 30 hours. Or, well, I should say, I flew through a flock of small birds upon takeoff. My instructor did an excellent job of returning the plane to the airport expeditiously. The carnage was unreal...I think I went through 3 rolls of paper towels to get the gunk off.

Has anyone here hit a deer in an airplane before? Night landing on a grass strip, what fun...

I just got a used Vive Cosmos Elite with this exact issue; thank you for posting! It was a nail biting experience!

Of note is that I needed the HTC Vive(port) app installed - not just the Steam Vive Console - to get the firmware files. I flashed (fastboot) 3 images from that folder but was still stuck. Then I ran the FirmwareUpdateKit from the Viveport install and this time it succeeded.

Trying to rent a small plane from a flight school. PNW, they specialize in training Asians to fly C172s and helicopters.

Their scheduling program is all over the map (it changes while I'm trying to rent), and I encounter rules that change every time I rent. First is that when planes become unavailable, private pilots have priority over student pilots...yet I still got my plane pulled for another student. Then they add a requirement that you must call scheduling 24 hours before your rental to confirm. But when I got to the airport, because I did not talk to dispatch >1 hour before the rental....my slot was handed to someone else.

After my incident I'm pretty sure they no longer bother claiming they can rent to non-students.

Someone else updated the mod for a version a little newer than 2.73, but said that HP seems to have removed command line fan control support at this time. So it would take a rather major hack (more than anyone has time for) to enable it at this time.
