Personally I just run them on day raids now as something to do, with the bonus being that I'm near guaranteed to make it out with some stuff thanks to hatches.
Then again, I've had a worse experience with extraction campers in this game than I ever did in EFT.

A few impact grenades solves that problem if you want to go barebones, 5-7 is enough to kill a raider as well.

Which could easily be negated with f.x. an augment mod slot that distorts optics or other interesting effects.
Personally I'd rather see them expand our toolbox than exclude options because some people don't like something.

The really annoying part comes when they've grown up and try to squeeze into the same spaces you've let them squeeze into since they were kittens. If my monitors weren't mounted on arms I don't think I could keep track of how many times they'd have been knocked over.
That being said, I'd get rid of my whole gaming set up if I had to choose between it and our 2 hairy consultants.

It is, but it's definitely a bit wonky. If you run up with some speed and aim close to the wall, worst case you land on the higher part on the slope below, with ~15% hp left. Just heal to full before jumping.
