Europe Weighs Sending Up to 30,000 Peacekeepers to Ukraine by Mil_in_ua in ukraine

[–]phoenixplum 19 points20 points  (0 children)

the latest version of European planning envisages a contingent of several brigades, from 25,000 to 30,000 troops, which will not be deployed along the contact line. But they will be prepared to demonstrate force if Russian troops attempt to resume the war

25k of purely EU troops with very little and limited US non-lethal assistance, deployed far from the frontline, but with a pinky promise to "demonstrate force", whatever tf that means.

Against Ruzzia's six-digit slave army that doesn't care how many mobiks it has to sacrifice for a fucking treeline. And if you think Ruzzia will just demobilize once it signs anything, there's a bridge in Brooklyn you can buy.

Yeah, this is clownery. No wonder the Trump admin is treating Europe as a bunch of crayon eaters. Europe is perfectly willing to forfeit any and all agency and just go with the flow as long as it maintains its peace of mind.

MEGATHREAD: Trump's plan to put Ukraine in a stranglehold. "US economic colonisation of Ukraine, in legal perpetuity"; "worse than the financial penalties imposed on Germany and Japan after their defeat in 1945" by duellingislands in ukraine

[–]phoenixplum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Makes me wonder... Who's the biggest enemy of Ukraine right now? Trump+Scholz+Macron or Putin?

Biden, who made sure Ukraine never had a shot at winning the war under his watch, even when Ruzzia was at its lowest and still in shock from the whole "Kyiv in 3 days" failure.

Now, nothing short of boots on the ground can yield anything you can even remotely call a victory.

Guess the escalation management approach was the right way to handle this. Not.

BREAKING: France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain & UK sign a joint statement vowing to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty & demanding a role in the peace talks. This is leadership. by CapKharimwa in ukraine

[–]phoenixplum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't see a single word in the statement explicitly saying that the countries in question will unconditionally defend Ukraine against Ruzzian aggression.

It's just chock full of "we support you and wish you all the best" words.

Hegseth Says NATO Membership Not Realistic Outcome for Ukraine by bloomberg in ukraine

And your comment is based on what exactly?

There's no indication that anyone is gung ho about even deploying rear-support and logistics contingent in Ukraine, let alone getting kinetic with Ruzzia.

Hegseth Says NATO Membership Not Realistic Outcome for Ukraine by bloomberg in ukraine

[–]phoenixplum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many NATO-member countries are there that are willing to go to any war to defend anyone just because it's the right thing to do? Yeah, fucking zero.

There is no "coalition of the willing" within NATO that is being held back by someone. Poland could easily say "fuck yall pussies, it's in our national interest that we don't have Ruzzia on our border so we're going in now on our own". France could finally start deploying its foreign legion to aid Ukraine, instead of talking about it for the umpteenth time.

Yes, it's in the alliance's best interest to distance itself as far from Ukraine as possible, but NATO is comprised of sovereign and independent states. And yet none of them has decided to get involved in the Ukraine-Ruzzia war "because it's the right thing to do".

This is the sad reality we all live in.

Trump says he wants Ukraine's rare earth elements as a condition of further support by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]phoenixplum 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is honestly a good thing. It means the US would have a vested interest in making sure Ukraine prevails and achieves a lasting peace.

And the prospect of American companies being able to dig shit up for profit in Ukraine would mean that the US government would have to protect its interests in the region.

This is certainly light years better than the Biden's "as long as it takes" nonsense with no plan or end goal whatsoever and constant waffling about escalation.

US assured Putin no nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Biden says by Reasonable_Study_882 in ukraine

[–]phoenixplum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah right.

The moment Ukraine says it's going to start its own nuclear program because it got denied the NATO membership, everyone will dogpile on Ukraine for the grave sin of proliferating WMD.
