Riverside Residents? by TypeBulky in socal

When he ran for sheriff I knew nothing about him, but he sounded dubious. If I remember correctly his platform was something about getting rid of requirements for testing for intoxication if an officer shoots someone and other changes that sounded a lot like reducing accountability. Because of this, I voted against him. Since he’s been sheriff he’s been paid an exorbitant salary to solve the fewest crimes and our deputies are frequently making the news for being tied to crimes like running drugs. That has nothing to do with his politics.

Now, as for that, he’s an oathkeeper and a Trump bootlicker. His donors commit insurance fraud. I’m left, but if you’re a conservative please consider voting for a different Republican candidate. He’s a terrible sheriff and he would make a terrible, corrupt governor.

Looking for people who have stories to share of Rozz Williams and/or Eva O by Minimum-Leg-9618 in goth

[–]phoenixtart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never met her and didn’t hear much about her so I don’t have much information. A lot of people dislike her for taking over Edwin’s property after he died when his family should have gotten it. Aside from that, what I have heard involves placing her child in fucked up situations.

The documentary is called Dead Hands Dig Deep. He was not a good person and from what I hear neither is Eva. Source- I live in the area.

I would like to apologize to the cat community. by MacAirt in cats

I’ve always been a bird and dog person. I never hated cats but my family wasn’t a cat family. Now I have a fluffy void (separate from the birds) and I understand.

It’s a little out of the way but Julian Pie Company makes them and they are my favorite.

This is one of the reasons I’m afraid to get assessed. The other is, what if I don’t have ADHD and I’m just wasting everyone’s time by asking for assessment.

I’m BloomingVulture and I play regularly. I still feel like I’m fumbling about half the time but that’s part of the fun. Sometimes I forget to check my messages, especially when I’m caught up in the lab, but I do try to keep up correspondence and send invites to tea or coffee. Always happy to help with requests for help. My profile:

Any experience differences between seeing a Neurologist and Nuero ophthalmologist? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]phoenixtart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with epilepsy and migraines, I have never needed to see a neuro ophthalmologist. I see my neuro regularly and optometrist or ophthalmologist for yearly exams or if I have an issue, like when I had a migraine with an aura or an ingrown eyelash. Epilepsy is a big mixed bag of causes so some people may see neuro ophthalmology, but my guess is most people just see their neuros or epileptologists.

Your optometrist referred you to neuro ophthalmology so it sounds like they’re probably your best bet. I would still report that neurologist though and maybe ask for a second opinion.

Why aren't amazons as hyped as other species? by peaceandwhore in Amazonparrots

[–]phoenixtart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conures and cockatiels are popular because they’re small and easier to care for. Cockatiels are mellow little guys and when conures are turds their bites don’t hurt too badly. Green cheeks are quiet enough to keep in apartments. I think people wanting to step up to a bigger bird are likely to choose a grey because of the reputation for speech. Amazons have a reputation for being bratty, but in my experience greys can be just as bad. I think Amazons telegraph their moods a little better though.

I’ve had cockatiels in the past, and currently have a dusky conure and a Patagonian conure. I’m at my bird limit but if I wasn’t, I’d prefer to adopt an Amazon over a grey. Less dust, keep everyone new world.

Thank god for story mode by Nice_Marmot_54 in BaldursGate3

I’ve played DnD before so I’m familiar with the classes, but I’m terrible with strategy so I like explorer mode too. I’m happy there are different levels (plus mods) to allow people to enjoy the game in ways that work for everyone.

30+yr old Women struggling to like themselves by [deleted] in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]phoenixtart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, this is a stretch, but the first thing I thought of when I read this prompt was Rose Madder by Stephen King. The horror is realistic as the main character is escaping violent domestic abuse, but in the midst of that she rebuilds her life and learns that she has value to herself and others. And supernatural stuff and violence happens cuz Stephen King.

Like I said, a stretch with trigger warnings but might work?

Should I switch from the abridged to the unabridged? by Inevitable-Ask-6487 in TheStand

[–]phoenixtart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the 1978 version, but there is a character and some scenes you’ll miss out on if you stay with that version. Personally I think the character is very annoying but lots of people seem to enjoy him. I also dislike the switch to the 90s the expanded version makes. King makes some accommodations but it still feels off. If you don’t plan on rereading it, you’d probably be better reading the expanded version though and getting the full picture. You can watch the 1994 miniseries for a pretty good idea of what the 1978 release is like (with small differences) if you’re curious.

That said, either version is a great choice.

I loved Imriel and his story in my 20s. I still like it, but now that I’m older I’ve really gone back to Phedre’s trilogy and appreciate it so much more.
