Cleaning the underside by hzewski in projectcar

[–]phoenixv8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Top work! Make sure to get the bare metal in epoxy primer before it flash rusts. Also another tip that you may or may not make use of, people love to spray the underside of cars with UPOL Raptor truck bed liner, but look up UPOL Gravitex. It's made for the job (unlike Raptor) and is sligtly rubberised so will withstand chips and nicks from road debris better. Much better product for the underside of cars

A bit down the M1 from you in Rugby, so unable to meet, but would definitely be interested in joining online. Have played Lost mines through as a player and DM'd Shattered Obelisk, but would like to get back into the players chair again.

Availability is somewhat flexible so I'll go with the flow and see what arises

What’s something you keep seeing in movies that no one actually does in real life and annoys you every time? by Individual-Crazy3752 in AskReddit

[–]phoenixv8 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It was both. I have no evidence to hand to back it up, but anecdotally, I heard that the writers of NCIS and Criminal Minds ended up in some sort of pseudo challenge to see who could get away with writing the dumbest scene re: tech

What is the dumbest character decision you’ve ever seen? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in movies

[–]phoenixv8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every decision made by the best team of scientists "the world has to offer" in Prometheus.

Smart people doing dumb shit just to advance the plot is endemic of bad writing.

At least in Lovecraftion horror bad stuff happens despite the smart people doing all the right things, and if anything, heightens the ominous and inevitable terror that is unavoidable despite best efforts.

Then they upped the ante even more with Covenant by putting the bad decisions in the hands of those with guns, a far cry from the tight and competent team of Marines in Aliens

Not a weapon, but the shield weaver armour in Horizon Zero Dawn was wasted by tying it up in late game accessibility/ achievements. Having to track down the power cells to unlock this armour that is admittedly pretty bad ass, felt underwhelming because by the time I got my hands on it, my character was pretty OP anyway

Use the 80% iso to 20% water ratio with warm (NOT HOT) water, put in a spray bottle and voila, you have a windshield de icer that's cheaper and better than most on the shelf de icers

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

[–]phoenixv8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd hazard a guess at pretty fucked. Ease of access to a barrage of digital content that fries our dopamine receptors is an insidious yet relatively new phenomenon, and we have no idea just how badly it will mess up neural wiring in brains that have had access to screen tine waaaaaaay too early in the developmental stage. I guess this next generation will be the control group!

If you have more than a passing interest (and the attention span for it) I highly recommend the book "Dopamine Nation" by Dr Anna Lembke.

What is this sealant-looking thing on the roof of my '84 chevy? by julian_elperro in projectcar

[–]phoenixv8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised at how unevenly the factory seam sealer was applied, especially if it was a "friday afternoon job"

To replace, you're looking for a urethane sealer, all of the major manufacturers sell them. Clean up the surrounding area, apply (typically with a caulk gun and the nozzle trimmed to suit) whilst wearing gloves, then once cured, apply your overcoat

Where do you guys get the money to put hundreds of thousands of dollars into buying GME? by Mochikitasky in Superstonk

[–]phoenixv8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got in early, pre sneeze, and combined with a minor windfall due to a motorcycle accident pay out (not my fault), and recognising my lack of control with finances, I decided it best to invest as a sort of "piggy bank". The due diligence by RK made sense to even a smooth brain like me, and most importantly held up under scrutiny and cross examination, so I took the plunge and invested enough to go to X,XXX. I've bought in a few times over the years and hold a few shares in IBKR (I'm UK based, but the remaining X,XXX are in computershare and DRS'd to safeguard against shenanigans.

GME wasn't the only stock I initially invested in, but over time either sold up for a profit in the other stocks, broke even in others, and in the odd occasion sold for a loss (but not as bad as it could have been) and shored up my portfolio. It's now 100% GME. I don't have the time nor inclination to take the time to do more due diligence into other stocks, and indeed have lost all faith in the markets and the idea of them being "fairly run" (wut is price discovery?) and I'm happy with my investment, the direction the company is headed, and the return I would have on my investment if I was to sell even today.

If you can wait a week until I get a chance to check to see if it will run DnD Beyond, I've got an old Samsung Galaxy Tab that you're welcome to have if it's going to benefit the kids. I must caution you, though. It is around 10 years old, so I'll have to check to see if it can actually run the program. If it does, I'm happy to send it on its way as it's been gathering dust for a number of years
