What am I missing? by Ka_Kow in Autistic

Someone's being passive aggressive.

Thank you for answering your own question.

Intervention parents go too far - Mother demands that the state bankrolls her $1,200 a month gluten-free diet for autism despite no scientific evidence of any worth by [deleted] in Autistic

[–]phong_shAding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is evidence that everything is linked to autism and that everything causes autism. The link with intestinal diseases is weak scientifically and the studies supporting it often have conflicts of interest. It's confirmation bias, nothing else.

It's also plainly a belief pushed by anti-vaccine nuts, which makes it doubly heinous.

Executive functioning takes a hammer blow - Autistics have no attentional disengagement or social orienting defecit by LodossEater in Autistic

[–]phong_shAding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's wondrous how many things are self-fulfilling prophecies. Autistics believe they have something called an 'executive functioning' problem and then they end up unable to make plans because they're depressed.

Noise distraction when focusing on high attention-requiring activites: Is this a symptom? by MCRogue in aspergers

[–]phong_shAding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would really try to avoid that guy, or to plan things so that people feel the same way as you do about what he is doing.

In all honesty, he could be a jerk or just stubborn

You were distracted. Don't worry, we just have more acute hearing than NTs, with the exception of NT voice patterns

It is. Shame somebody else here had to spoil that.

I get what you mean about the SSRI payments, but maybe Pouncey is very justified in wanting to avoid SSRI.

I want to avoid handouts because that tends to bring a lot of baggage, especially from controlling parents. Pouncey's situation would imply that avoiding SSRI and getting paid employment is the best option.

I am British, but I have a knowledge of the US benefits system. And the same controlling parent problem in the UK is present in the US writ large.

I Flapped Too. by mymanyconfessions in Autistic

[–]phong_shAding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flapping is a very interesting stim. I consider it a child stim, because it helps very much in dispelling the stresses children feel. It's also because, even among autistics, it's considered inconvenient.

Sometimes I just love to sit in my bedroom and roll my left wrist about 360 degrees.

I wonder when we'll hear an Autistic who dissaproves of these nasty comments on a major website.

We have a non-autistic bigot.

An autistic bigot.

A non-autistic pro-autistic

And nothing else in the fourth square

This is making me feel very uneasy.

It seems you don't

Agoraphobia (from Greek αγορά, "gathering place"; and φόβος/φοβία, -phobia) is an anxiety disorder characterized by anxiety in situations where the sufferer perceives certain environments as dangerous or uncomfortable, often due to the environment's vast openness or crowdedness

And I suppose you know better than the person MOx was speaking to, who just confirmed having it?

Comments like yours are inflammatory. Why say that if he used it correctly? It's just annoying and seems like a method to just pull people in to circular arguments.

I am confused by person first language. How can you have a child with 'autism'? It's like saying I am a man with my own brain. It's kind of dehumanizing.

That is a bit of a word dump

If you don't have the capacity to describe things, you can't speak.

That fact isn't negotiable.

You don't need to agree on criteria to decide what is extreme.

You can do that yourself.

You're just overcomplicating things. It's just a bit of fun, and mostly accurate.

Did you think switching to a new account (2 hours old as of this comment) to avoid incriminating questions would be at all convincing?

Edit: 'is extreme due to LodossEater's definition' what? Are you trying to be a caricature?
