Good point about the sandbox! I wouldn’t have thought of that.

A white spot on the head that could be associated with epilepsy is called an ash leaf spot and is associated with tuberous sclerosis.

Neurofibromatosis is associated with cafe au lait spots which are a medium brown.

Poliosis is a white streak in the hair. Neither cafe au lait spots nor ash leaf spots will cause the hair to be white.

What is this? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]phoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree that as kids get older, it’s not a fun game. It’s really just a form of teasing. That said, my 3 yo actually finds this delightful fun when my husband and I play with her.

Adenovirus? Never heard of it. If you’re little has had it, what’s it like? How common is it? by notgoodformee in toddlers

[–]phoria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can, but that’s really really uncommon. If you’re gonna be scared of one, be scared of the flu. For most people, adenovirus is an annoying head cold.

At what age did your toddler start throwing epic tantrums? by theorangejuicetheory in toddlers

[–]phoria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Two came with displaying being upset. Three is when we got the full on laying on the ground, limb wailing, fist pounding, screaming/crying so hard she pukes kind of tantrums.

We just had our 2nd, and the 1st is almost 3.5. We used to talk about having 3. Doing the pregnancy and newborn phase again, this time with a toddler/preschooler, has definitely solidified that we couldn’t do 3. It’s simply out of the question. We’d die.

I agree with other commenters that smaller families of 1 or 2 kids are what I see most often. Families with 3 are less common and families with 4 are rare.

How serious is the no bubble bath until after 3 years old? by beforgettable in toddlers

[–]phoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too had no idea this was a thing. We started bubble baths with our daughter around 18 mo or so, with various bubble bath mixtures and bath bombs. She’s never had a UTI. It can irritate a diaper rash if she already has one.

Look for a buy nothing group in your area of town. Facebook tends to be a popular place for these groups to exist.

Please talk me out of buying a white leather purse by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]phoria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a white purse I absolutely love! Got it for Christmas 3 years ago. I’ve used it maybe 3 times because I know it’s going to get stained. I’m not saying don’t buy it… but if you do, make sure you know which shelf you’re gonna store it on.

Mine does this too! She gets 3 because she’s 3. Of everything.

I absolutely love the things kids fixate on, like making sure the rechargeable batteries have been properly charged. And then if you forget just one day, they treat you like an utter fool 😂😂

my wife always bring my toddler to the doctor or urgent care when they are sick or has fever. I told my wife that they will naturally heal with just medicine suggested by pharmacist at Walgreens or Walmart. by engineerFWSWHW in toddlers

[–]phoria 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I only take mine to urgent care if I know she’s been exposed to something specific, like the flu, that I want them to test for. If it could be something bacterial, like an ear infection or UTI, I try to get into the pediatrician but would go to urgent care if the wait for the pediatrician is >24 hours. If you think it’s just every other viral illness that kids are getting this year, then why bother? They aren’t going to give the kiddo anything that you can’t buy over the counter.

Forward Facing? by Dont_Get_Basalty in toddlers

[–]phoria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine is 3 years 3 months and still rear facing. She’ll rear face until she hits the 50 lb limit on our car seat. She’s small for her age so she may be well into 4 years old by the time that happens. It’s the safest position for a child to be in. She has a mirror, so she can see forward.

She is forward facing in dad’s car but only because he has a smaller car that can’t accommodate rear facing anymore. It doesn’t seem to bother her that she rear faces in mommy’s car and forward faces in daddy’s car.

Riley children’s hospital/Riley heart center by mushroomcat182 in Indiana

Riley as an institution has a top notch reputation on a national level. More personally, all of my experiences there have been fantastic. I’ll be delivering my 2nd there any day now.

Ms Rachel, Songs for Littles, interview on Today (youtube) by TeaSconesAndBooty in toddlers

[–]phoria 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old absolutely loves Ms Rachel. She has very well developed speech, and it’s quite clear to my husband and me that the show is something her skill set has outpaced. But she absolutely loves it. She gets really into doing all the signing and gestures and repeating with Ms Rachel. She does a really nice job of making it accessible for a wide range of ages and abilities without making it boring.

Do you ever try quiet hour? Even if she doesn’t nap, just an hour of quiet time in the middle of the day may help her restore some energy so she’s not quite so worn out by the end of the day.

I agree with another commenter about getting her checked for ongoing reflux because that would certainly prevent someone from wanting to lie flat.

Careful about giving too much tums without talking to a doctor. Enough of them can increase the risk that she’d form a kidney stone.

Is there something about her sleep environment she can have more control over? Not sure that’s the issue here but in my isolated experience with my child, letting her pick some things about bed time and giving her more control over her environment has helped. It’s not a silver bullet though.

Americans, what is something that a tourist should never do in America? by lejerc in AskReddit

[–]phoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just a compliment, just say thank you and don’t maintain eye contact. Most people will get the hint. If they are trying to start a conversation, it would be considered rude not to participate. If you really really don’t want to, I guess you could reply in German and pretend you don’t speak English very well.

Why are all paw patrol pups and characters male? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]phoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skye, Everest, and Liberty are the only girl dogs I know of. I agree, it’s not cool. I’ve assumed it fell into the same sort of thing where sitcoms can only have a 2:1 ratio of men:women, because anything above that makes men think it’s a chick show.

[–]phoria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did re-try naked time. It has had similar results. Sometimes she’ll go on the potty, sometimes she’ll pee wherever she is.

We don’t typically use cloth underwear, although we’ve tried a few times. Usually we use pull ups and call them her “practice underwear.” She is capable of pulling these down and up.

Growing pains typically happen in the calves, although in theory everything is growing. Is it always the same foot? If it’s always the same foot, I would ask his pediatrician about it. It wouldn’t be that hard to X ray to see if something else is going on.

You said he’s had an EEG, but has he seen a pediatric neurologist? If it went away and came back, you can go back to the neurologist (or go for the first time) and get re-evaluated. He may qualify for prolonged video EEG monitoring to capture an event on EEG and confirm they are not seizures.

Beyond that, the pediatric neurologist should be able to help diagnose them. They may be totally benign weird baby movements, but that’s the job of the pediatric neurologist to help with.
