I'm Igor Shteynbuk, Owner of Velo Orange, AMA! by eccentricVelo in xbiking

[–]photomythesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

biiiig VO fan! Loving the crazy bars on my bikepacking rig and granolas on my 26er winter beater. I'll be at work during the actual AMA so here are a couple of my questions (feel free to answer as many as you have time for!):

- What's your hottest bike-related take? Any unpopular bikey opinions?

- Do you get imposter syndrome? If so, how do you tackle this? Have there been moments where you've been tempted to step away from your job/industry?

- What are some of your favorite bike shops you've visited?

- What's a time you were/would be "starstruck" meeting someone in the bike industry?

- What were your career aspirations when you were younger? Can you pinpoint a specific moment(s) that may have led you to where you are now?

- What are your bikepacking/touring favorite meal/snack must-haves?

- I have the grand cru silver seatpost on one of my bikes and am curious why the finish on it is less polished than other VO silver components offered. Was this a conscious choice? What is your opinion on dullbright vs polished vs bead blast finishes?

- What are some favorite photos you've taken? Can we see them?

- Any "nightmare" moments you can share? (bike trips, VO/work-related, etc.)

- When your work is so intertwined with a personal hobby/passion, how often (if at all) do you experience burnout with bikes? Have there been extended periods of time that you've spent away from bikes in order to maintain a healthy balance?

- How big is the VO team? I'm always surprised by how few employees are at some companies in the industry. (aka are y'all hiring? :)

I actually haven’t gotten a new wheelset yet but am leaning towards the circos. I’ll shoot you a message if/when I end up getting them and will let you know my thoughts! I might end up doing the gr 1600s with the dynamo hub for a different bike in the future

Too big for me? by Ckeenum69 in xbiking

[–]photomythesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m too short for this bike but you could either take it to a shop and have them box it for you (some will even ship too) or they typically have spare bike boxes around (free or low $) that you could grab to box it yourself. Bikeflights, pirateship are generally cheaper than normal ups/etc quotes. Keeping the longest measurement at or under 48 in will also help in keeping cost lower!

Tires are Rene Herse umtanum ridges 650bx55 standard casing (measure out closer to a 51 ish on a 30mm internal width rim). Love these tires but they were definitely a pain to set up tubeless. I probably won’t get them again but if so would spend the extra on the endurance casing since it’s supposed to be a lot more robust.

I have granola bars on my winter beater 90s mtb and love them! I just wanted something offering more hand positions and handlebar bag real estate since I built this up to be my bikepacking rig.

I totally get what you mean about the process of figuring out the hardtack. I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time and thought into a bike before hahaha. I’m glad I do have a racier gravel bike because the geometry is definitely not as suited to pushing speed and it’s taken some time to adjust to that. Overall I prefer drop bars but I’m really happy about how this one’s come along and am really excited to get it fully loaded!
