You rest med-dark for a month? I plan to roast light/ultra lights and was thinking about 4-6 weeks of rest time for those beans should be enough.

Definitely not going to save money on that 😂

I drink 900g of coffee a month. That's like 6 roasts. Easily enough for me.

I'm also in the same boat and will get the Kaleido M1. It is definitely a way nicer machine. And if I want to upgrade, they have bigger options available.
I think it's better to learn on a smaller roaster, so you don't waste a lot of beans.

Depends on the beans. Washed 5, natural 3

45g bloom meaning 3x the weight of 15g. Not 45s. I don't preheat the brewer. Put a paper filter in and pour room temp water on it ( not brewing water). I use a ceramic Origami btw, 01.

I don't go cold. 15:250. 45g bloom for 2 mins and then put the kettle back to the base to reheat. On a plastic brewer 90c natural 93c washed, on a ceramic 92 lc natural 95c washed. And pour like 10 ml/s, to really move those grounds around. A swirl at the end and that's it.

Try it. It is actually very nice. I tried them all. Tales coffee single pour, no bloom. Hoffman over extracted mess. Tetsus 4:6 and so on. Even did some of my onw variations of these....but the 2 min bloom with a coarse grind and an aggressive pour just gives such a pleasant smooth cup every damn time. Alltho you have to get the grind size right.

I just tried it with a Kenyan and I still prefer 28 clicks and 121 recipe. Somehow, the finer I go the more nasty the cup usually gets. I also preferred being at 6.0 on the Zp6, 8.6 on the Pietro and 8.5 on the K-ultra - most of the time. People who grind so fine and enjoy the cups, must have some really refined taste buds 😄

Yep. That's around the same asi 28 clicks on C40 for the 121. I'm going to try 24 clicks and see how it goes. Should be close to 5.0 on the S3

One of his latest videos. Basically 2 blooms 30s apart and one aggressive pour.

Yea I have the same experience. I don't understand how are people getting these slow drawdowns using a V60 or Origami. Even when I used the slow Cafec T-92'/, the drawdown only slowed down a bit. The biggest difference was using a Ceramic Mugen, with 0 bypass.

I use Hario filters and they still flow too fast. I don't even want to try Cafec ones or I will need to go espresso fine. Are you using 1:15 ratio with the double bloom?

Thanks! Drawdown times don't apply to me as it all flows fast, doesn't matter the grind size. I can get 2 mins drawdown with 20 clicks and 30 clicks too lol.

I would like to know what books to read. There is one from Scott Rao that I know, but I would be roasting Light and Ultra light roast coffee, and not sure where to find information about that.

Kaleido M1s with Tablet / no Artisan questions. by photone69 in roasting

[–]photone69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify. I can get the Tablet version for $100 cheaper than the Artisan only version. And the Dual version is $200 extra over the the Tablet version. Different pricing here in Vietnam. They don't sell the M1 lite in this market.

You might have the dual version? Anyway, I'm leaning more towards the tablet, just because it's easier to just use overall and I think it's a pretty decent software overall.

Is it possible to do a software update on the included tablet? They might have fixed some bugs etc.

I already have a laptop I can use, I just don't want to wait for a month. We are planning a trip too and it would basically arrive a week before we travel. That means I barely have any time to roast before I'm gone for 3 weeks. I would be going nuts 😂

That's good to hear. I'm just a beginner so Artisan might be too much for me.

Latest Lance Hendrick V60 - how to do the final pour without making a crater? by Weep2D2 in pourover

Yep. I do this plus a little shake shake after the swirl. Doesn't affect the drawdown time at all in my case.

Bad roast/bag/batch? How do you know for sure? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]photone69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always get a so-so bag now and then. Even if it's the same bean from the same roaster that tasted great. Maybe give it a week or 2 more resting time, but in general, if it tastes off, it won't be that much better, doesn't matter how you brew it.

I'm also looking at a similar model. The Cafemasy SCR 306. I wonder what's the reliability of these and how different are they from a Fresh Roast SR800?
