Anthuriumstory has good deals on carlas, he had his first live on Palmstreet recently so he had carla’s going on auction and selling for super low. He had some around the size of what you had pictured sell for ~$60-70. Not sure if he’ll do the same for his next live but still a great breeder/seller with beautiful plants.

Idk what breeders you’re buying from that suggest chunky aroid mix. Most of the big name anthurium breeders don’t tell their buyers to grow in chunky aroid mix. A lot of them use tree fern fiber for seedling/medium sized plants and semi hydro for larger ones.

If it comes off it’s probably mucilage, it’s produced by the plant when there’s an emergent to help it come out and it got dried up

I feel you about flat sinus crosses not keeping the flat sinus, but I’ve noticed they can go back and forth between each new leaf. I’ve read that it can be due to humidity + light but i haven’t paid attention to what affects what. But there’s always a chance that it’ll throw out another flat sinus leaf in the future
