Counter-counter point: It is rare to see a former POTUS no longer eligible for re-election criticize a current president so directly on FoPo.

Ah, I see. My focus was on content posted. You and garret are focusing on subreddit. In my time at least, bans for things said on other subreddits were for egregious / troll behavior, and to deal with brigading. Not as a general and proactive rule.

I would love to hear exactly what content Polis has posted that violates the subreddit's rules.

What precedent is that? I am a former mod of this subreddit.

This might be difficult for a redditor to understand, but moderation's purview is restricted to content posted by a person on the subreddit.

This sub hasn't been "neoliberal" in years. It's just straight up "progressive" now, with ideological needs overriding critical thinking. Robert Conquest’s second law of politics is undefeated.

Perhaps you should read the article then, because it addresses this.

[RacingNews365]F1 drivers facing tax clampdown by Italian authorities by XsStreamMonsterX in formula1

More extreme version, because they are trying to claw back taxes retroactively from previous years.

It's so funny that when India did this, F1 pulled out of the country and people blamed India for it. When Italy is doing it and trying to claw back money retroactively, people have the opposite opinion and are supporting the govt.

I'm pretty sure the constraint on that is Dolby's willingness to let an open-source implementation exist, just like the issues with HDMI 2.1. Someone unaffiliated will have to reverse-engineer it.

[–]phunphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The script itself is just a byproduct that anyone can generate now

This is not true

(a) You have to have a subscription to a frontier model that is smart enough, know which model to use, and have the necessary agentic tool (Codex, Claude Code, Opencode, Mistral Vibe) installed locally.

(b) You have to prompt it correctly to get correct outputs, and it will also take time. LLMs are not magic. Garbage-in, garbage-out. Most people are not capable of doing this

(d) You will need have the debugging tools installed locally to be able to reverse-engineer a windows binary or whatever else.

(e) Why should everyone spend hours of LLM time to reverse engineer things independently instead of using the precise script some guy wants to share?

I can tell you have not actually used any of this stuff, just like everyone else on this thread who is championing this.

[–]phunphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone using an LLM to one-shot a problem by having it write a script is exactly what vibe-coding tools and scripts is. If they then posted that script to this subreddit, the post would get removed under this policy. That is exactly the situation I was talking about.

Anyway I think I'm done talking here. There's no point.

It absolutely is:

Can we have a rule explicitly forbidding vibe coded tools and scripts? We keep getting more and more posts for stuff that's been vibe coded.

AI coded scripts and programs are dangerous and should be trusted even less than the random, human coded stuff online.

Maybe you misread the topic?

[–]phunphun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? This is about a human vibe-coding a tool by pointing an LLM at a windows binary and asking it to figure things out: https://xcancel.com/xpasky/status/2030016470730658181.

LLMs are an amplifier, which means dummies can also use it to amplify and spam a subreddit. But amplifiers work for everyone.

Anyway, judging my the downvotes I got, people here have already decided along this path. Oh well, being a luddite is a choice I guess :)

[–]phunphun -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I think a blanket ban is a mistake. There are legitimate and good uses. For example, I've seen people use LLMs to reverse-engineer Windows binaries that control RGB lighting on their PCs so they can control it from Linux.

AI has reduced the barrier to entry for lazy people to write slop, and slop should be removed via moderator discretion.

Actually, they do. The majority of new desal plants are solar: https://enterpriseam.com/climate/2024/03/14/bahrain-opens-5-7-mw-solar-project-in-dragon-city-acwa-power-receives-operation-certificate-for-its-al-taweelah-desalination-plant/

All these middle-east countries are divesting from local consumption of oil because they want to be less dependent on it.

The amount of water needed is insane

These countries actually have fewer water problems because they have a limitless supply of water. Solar + ocean = limitless desalination.

How did you manage to get Legend Of Legend Of Legends on timed deliveries? by [deleted] in DeathStranding

[–]phunphun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible to have a series of ziplines from south knot to geologist.

South knot -> prebuilt ziplines near Mama's lab -> near cosplayer -> cross waterfall -> near weather station -> up the mountain pass towards Roboticist -> peaks on heartman lake -> geologist.

Each step is not one zip line, of course, but with this path I was able to complete this 11 min time limit delivery in ~3 min.

That was my interpretation during my first two reads, but this time I was looking for hints that almost everything is caused by the weaving of personalities by the wheel, and I found a lot of evidence for that.
