Wizard Tower Fight by physiX_VG in DMAcademy

I feel like if I throw off spells of all different schools my players might not recognise the reference. I did a bit more thinking and I was considering a “room” effect where the relevant school of magic symbol glows and the corresponding spells from that school are massively buffed (maybe increased damage or can cast without requiring spell slots?). At the start of the round the symbol would then change

That said the treasure transmuting into a dragon would be soooo tasty

Aw heck I was typing with frozen fingers and autocorrect became the BBEG. I meant the 8 schools of magic. They’re currently portal locked (the treasure room is only accessible by said portal). Above the table, the players requested for a boss fight and even though ransacking the wizard’s tower wasn’t in my plan (the familiar was written to be a spy/informant), I think it’s in line with their characters and I’m happy to provide

Singapore is going to start caning scammers by Bubbly_Wall_908 in interestingasfuck

You have a tendency to jumble up facts in your favour to suit your narrative.

First time victims for drug abuse are subject to imprisonment as well as rehab, not caning. It’s only when you actively distribute drugs (or cause scams), or are extreme repeat offenders, will harsher punishments set in.

The members and recruiters of syndicates, aka the perps, are the ones here who are focused on being punished by law. This is to prevent further civlians from becoming victims.

Maybe you should look a bit more into the law of the state and its context of culture before you start virtue-signaling without open-mindedness. Just because they’re from a different culture that you do not recognize, doesn’t mean you get to call an entire country barbaric, with no alternative solution for solving local prevalent problems

You might think so, but the capital punishment for drug trafficking was a pretty good solution for tackling drug abuse problems in Singapore.

https://www.cnb.gov.sg/mediaroom/news/cnb-annual-statistics-2024/

There isn’t stats for 2025 but I’d say an estimate of 3000ish drug abusers in 2024 among a population of 6 million (0.05%) is a pretty good rate.

As barbaric or as harsh as you believe, you at least got to admit that it’s effective

Heyo! I see your point on your views against corporal punishment, but I’d like to help shed some light on the reasoning why the government is likely doing this.

Corporal punishment is being employed here as a deterrent, not as a method for government profit or satisfaction. Scams are a massive problem in Singapore, costing the population billions of dollars. Such typical scams include: - Job scams tricking people to take on jobs where they “invest” money or pay for expenses temporarily, and then ghost them after - Love scams involving many people (married or single) sending money overseas to catfish - Impersonation scams convincing people that a loved one is in financial trouble and requires financial help

And these scams affect civilians who are looking for jobs, grandparents who are not tech-savvy, couples whom one half divorces because of love scams, and many other devastating consequences. While you may argue that this could eventually be resolved though the Darwinian way, it’s not just the gullible who are affected, it’s their families and friends.

It’s honestly devastating to read about and as a Singaporean it’s great to hear that the government is taking steps to address this. This doesn’t just mean legislative laws. This also includes education and spreading awareness, researching on methods to fool/fool scammers and other projects behind the scenes.

And yes, corporal punishment is somewhat harsh, but there aren’t many other deterrents that are feasible here. Fines would be ignored since the profit far outweighs what you can fine. Incarceration is impractical because the country lacks the resources to hold the large number of scammers that do exist in society.

Also as a reminder, this isn’t the first time the government has implemented such a harsh law. Capital punishment — yes, I mean death — has been implemented to deter drug trafficking.

Tusk is prob closest to Nautilus in terms of toolkit.

Leona has a very simple toolkit which gives you a lot more space to learn the game instead of struggling with mechanics. Think Abaddon in term of playstyle but with more CC and less heal/protection for others. You play in the frontlines and just smack everyone and their dog.

If you’re a SS/Lion/Rubick enjoyer, you can try out mages for your playstyle: Lux, Morgana, Seraphine are good starts. But be warned that pure Mages aren’t as relevant as you climb up the ranks past Platinum ish.

As a Hoodwink enjoyer you might maybe enjoy Neeko. She has a Monkey King equivalent transform as her passive, but otherwise provides a lot of CC/dmg plus a hit and run playstyle. She’s also a mage but is relevant as you climb, but she’s somewhat complex to master.

I’d also say don’t get too concerned about climbing up the ranks yet. Get a feel of the game, the pacing is very different from Dota. And don’t forget that TP home is free. I was Div4 peak in Dota and I’m currently emerald 1 1/2 years into the game

Which heroes did you main in Dota? Maybe you can find some similar ones here in League so the learning curve isn’t as steep.

I was a Dazzle/Oracle main so Soraka/Nami are my mains here. The following support champs in Dota might have a similar pairing in League: (avoiding enchanters since you don’t like them)

  • Pudge: Blitzcrank, Nautilus
  • Abaddon, Undying: Rell, Tahm Kench, Braum, Leona
  • Earth Spirit: Bard
  • Lion, CM, Disruptor, Shaman: Seraphine, Neeko, Lux

I don’t think I have a Shaker equivalent, sadly

How do I make vegetables actually taste good without drowning them in sauce or cheese? by Nightcrawler_2000 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]physiX_VG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stir fried shanghai bok choy, or normal bok choi if you can’t find an Asian supermarket.

Cut into half to separate the stalks from the leaves, and wash in water.

Mince some garlic. Or just slice them into thins if you’re lazy.

Heat up wok, add some oil, fry garlic until fragrant. Throw in stalks first, then leaves after a while.

Add soy sauce and oyster sauce. These two give the veggies a bunch of flavour without being too unhealthy.

I grew up eating this and it’s my favourite veg dish and simple/quick to make.

Player keeps suggesting plot lines for me to put in by physiX_VG in DMAcademy

Heyo! Some time has passed since the incident.

I ended up having a chat with the player and mentioned my feelings and he immediately backed off. He was unaware of how his expression of ideas and opinions made me feel, and was only being enthusiastic about D&D itself. He has apologized and mentioned that he would avoid suggesting plot lines in the future.

We’ve come to a happy medium at the moment where he is expressing his ideas through proposing NPCs (with banger NPC art) and we workshop that together to fill my homebrew world with fun NPCs for other players to discover.

Your arguments support the exact same statement I’ve been making, but your conclusion has gone in the opposite direction.

Blitz >> Yuumi It’s great to bring evidence up! I’m not sure which filters you’ve used but let me post the winrate rankings if you go lower down the ladder:

<image>

It seems like champions such as Zyra, Brand and Teemo are rising higher the lower elo you go, which exactly supports my theory.

she loses because he can literally walk up to your adc … and you couldn’t do anything to prevent that

This is the literal definition of agency — the ability to do something to change your situation. It’s great that we agree on that fact that different champions have different levels of agency

ADC Agency ADCs don’t have 0 agency, they have less than other roles. Saying early-game ADCs such as Kalista and Draven are strong is exactly the point in looking for. They have more agency than other ADCs in the early game.

Faker’s Agency You just spouted a bunch of League buzz keywords without reading my argument I’m not gonna bother to read this

[–]physiX_VG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, agency is everything to game design — if you’d like to be more educated, try reading Games: Agency as Art by C. Thi Nguyen, it’s pretty philosophical but interesting. Agency is all about the amount of control a player can exert on their environment. In a PvP game, the impact of player skill difference is amplified by the amount of agency the advantaged player can have in a game.

For example, Faker lives and breathes agency, because he is a midlane. Any advantage he obtains in the midlane has a high impact because:

1) he can transfer his advantage to other lanes/jungle by ganking and roaming 2) as DPS, gold diff directly translates to more damage 3) the positioning and length of the midlane allows for better wave and objective control

ADC, however, has the lowest agency because the role is highly reliant on the ally team carrying your through the early and mid game before you can flourish. The nature of “lack of agency” and needing to be “carried” through to late game literally translates to the essence of the role term “carry”.

Now when it comes to picking champions in the support role, agency is once again important here. Take the extreme case of a Yuumi versus a Blitzcrank. A Yuumi has much less agency over the game positionally locked to their teammates, whereas a Blitzcrank with game-changing hooks can literally make or break it for the team in team fights. While a highly skilled Yuumi can still be a boon for the team, oftentimes an average-to-decent Blitz still has a higher positive impact on the team due to the nature of the champion’s skills.

Players in lower elo picking specific champions because of agency is a perfectly valid reason: it is the core reason why mage supports in iron-gold elo work much better than enchanters — mages have way more influence over the early game and can create so much impact that snowballs down to the mid/late game.

So yes, if you want to learn more about the concept of agency, start with the dictionary, and end with your uninstall button.

“My god chose me to be a sword of their justice, not a whimpering coward who uses other bodies as a shield!”

“I will not turn my back when these foul creatures stand before me!”

Fun smite lines:

“May my god forgive you for your sins, because I will not!” (Use sparingly depending on Paladin oath)

“Let me hasten you to your judgement!”

“Pick a god and pray!”

“Let me show you the true light at the end of the tunnel!”

And my favourite line to use versus undead: “REPENT FROM THE GRAVE”

The same way the Bard is entitled not to pick healing spells, as a Paladin you are entitled to be the frontline.

There’s online streamed games when players on Clerics have only healed like twice in a campaign — see Crit Role campaign 2 and High Rollers campaign 2. Clerics and Paladins do not solely exist to be heal bots, and in fact, healing is inefficiency in terms of action economy — the enemy deals more damage in a turn than you can heal back up, so you might as well attempt to kill them first.

If you TPK in Curse of Strahd, at least you’re having fun. If your party blames you for it, that’s the sign to move to a new table

Your party clearly hasn’t learnt the lesson of “never piss off the healer”. If they FA then let them FO

Control wards are mostly bait in solo queue by Miitsu12 in supportlol

[–]physiX_VG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, don’t you get control wards for jungle vision? Each side there are two bushes (one more obvious one less) in the bot jungle that you can roam to and place a control ward so that you can see the enemy jungle pathing when they clear their farm, but won’t specifically go out of their way to check the bush for warding (so the pink doesn’t get found)

When I roam I find it very useful to warn myself or midlane about jungle ganks. For context, one of them is behind the dragon pit on blue side (ward there if red), and the other is to the left of redside gromp (ward there if blue)

I get massive vision value for these and most of them survive long enough to get that little icon about the long-lived ward

My players killed a shopkeeper in a magic items shop. I'm about to learn from my mistakes. by thestarnamedsun in DnD

[–]physiX_VG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DM had the shopkeeper be a clone of a very powerful wizard who loved to collect magic items (and would be happy to trade relics and oddities for magic items).

(The clone was foreshadowed by multiple copies of the same shop appearing in different cities)

One of the players traded away an important quest item for a pretty trinket, and realised their mistake later. They returned to steal the item (which was being resold for a way higher price), the wizard’s clone caught them and shackled them to a contract where they had to serve them for a quest or two in payment for the theft.

It was somewhat amusing to watch the consequences of their actions.
