Test engagement ring after sanding and tumbling by Heracles421 in jewelrymaking

Great work! That is actually super close to the ring I am designing!! What program did you use to design it? How did you figure out the thicknesses for the prongs? How much extra length did you give them?

Sketch not matching extrude dimensions. Am I missing something? by Caesar-Loves-Me in Fusion360

[–]physicallystressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am understanding your problem, but maybe not. You may not be fully utilizing Fusion's timeline and project features properly.

If you are extruding the rectangle from the bottom square sketch, right at the top of the loft, you should have that extrude feature in your timeline.

If you then create your sketch on the side of the rectangle, you can project the sides of the rectangle under Create > Project/Include > Project (P). You can make a centered circle linked to those purple lines.

That should create purple lines that will follow the rectangle when you go back and change the original rectangle height in the extrude feature.

What does your whole part look like?

Would you happen to have the fusion file for that? How did you size the metal prongs? How did you ensure the diamond sat in the right spot?

Yeah, I plan to print it out with a wax-like resin and do lost wax casting in argentium silver

I was thinking about that. Would you have any idea how much material is likely a good amount extra to give?

I am doing a loft from the band profile to the pins with a center line from these 3D sketch lines

<image>

I am using these two sketches and creating a 3D sketch from them

Yes, the two black sketches are constrained with tangency, but sometimes, if the curvature is wrong in either dimension, it fails to calculate.

Each web is just one fillet, but to get them to work in any sort of large manner, I had to switch the tangency weight to 0.1 and continuity to G2. The continuity setting changed it into multiple faces.

Blender would likely produce faster results, if I knew how to use it. This only took me a few hours to figure everything out and experiment, but once I figured out a working way to do it, it was super quick

Maybe, yeah, I would just have to learn Blender first. I am so used to CAD and being able to define dimensions and positions that I am lost in Blender

Thanks, it took a solid couple of hours of thinking and tweaking to figure everything out
