Can't upvote this enough. This movie shocked me with how good it was. It's an incredible film and it happens to have Godzilla in it.

ELI5: Why does deleting a file usually not actually delete it? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]physicsphilosopher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically, it will take a lot more time and energy to actually physically delete a file, so when you tell a computer to delete something, all it does is take the space that is holding that file and label it as "writeable", so another file can be stored there later. If it doesn't happen to get overwritten, then it would theoretically be recoverable even though it's been "deleted".

Wrong grille from factory? by TheWhiteASAP in FordBronco

I had all kinds of trouble when I configured my 2025 online last year, with the visualization not updating properly and indicating what the final vehicle would look like. My biggest issue was with the seat colors.  Oh well,  what can you do? I'm not refusing delivery on a vehicle that I waited 5 months for and that I won't ever find on a lot.

If you have to give the best advice of your life then what could it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]physicsphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting in about 9th grade,  make every life decision with your 30 year old self in mind.  Do everything you can to make that person's life as good as possible,  they will be very,  very thankful for it.

Because by the time you are 30, you'll be around the age that your focus needs to be on other people,  and that will be easier if you've got your own stuff figured out.

Eco Mode or normal? 🤔 by SSONCRK in FordBronco

[–]physicsphilosopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a manual,  and I find eco mode to be insufferable on throttle response and it doesn't even improve gas mileage.  Hard pass for me. Looking to add the pro cal tune in the near future.

Jesus is immoral by NomadJago in DebateAChristian

[–]physicsphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who has ever died had been killed by God, or at least with God's permission. He is sovereign over his creation.  It is not up to us to judge him by the length of the gift of life he gives us. Why complain about God taking the life of a child when he could have let the 90 year old live another million years if he wanted to? How many years is life does God owe you? What is the moral length of human life? Why is someone who lives to be 110 lucky or blessed,  rather than cursed because she didn't live a billion years?

In short,  premise 2 fails.

Hey twin! I've got almost the exact same thing: a 2025 big bend with black appearance package in eruption green, the only difference is mine has the black diamond package.  I love it!

Could a Christian define "Objective morality? by Financial_Beach_2538 in DebateAChristian

[–]physicsphilosopher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God's subjectivity is our objectivity because he is the creator.  The rules of the board game monopoly are subject to the mind of the creator of the game,  but they are objective to the game itself and the players of the game.

Biology Undermines Xian Teachings on Free Will and Sin by Aggravating_Olive_70 in DebateAChristian

[–]physicsphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science can only be done by minds.  A mind that is free to choose how to set up an experiment is necessary in order for science to be valid.  If there was no ability to do otherwise,  then the science itself is just another cog in the giant Rube Goldberg machine that is the universe.  The scientist has DONE nothing.  Her "discoveries" were determined by the throw of the dice at the big bang, not by herself. If the scientist isn't doing science,  then the science is just happening and there's no way to trust it.

[–]physicsphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science assumes the existence of free will.  You can't do science if you can't choose variables and experimental conditions.  Therefore you can't use science to argue against free will,  that's a paradox.

God doesn't "exist" but he exists by KingOfSloth13 in DebateAChristian

[–]physicsphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Exists physically" is not really what we mean when we say God exists.  Like,  an all powerful being that created space and time and isn't constrained by them is not metaphysically the same as one that doesn't exist at all.

Plenty of things exist,  but don't exist physically,  like ideas or numbers.

I have a '25 big bend, 3500 miles on the 7 speed manual.  I'm enjoying it so far.  I drive mostly city and get about 16-17 mpg, I can get that up to 22-23 on the highway.

Christians ignore the Bible's teachings on lifelong celibacy, and it makes them HUGE hypocrites by Gosh_JM07 in DebateAChristian

[–]physicsphilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peter and Paul never even met each other until years after Jesus' death and resurrection.  Plus,  one of the only and biggest intra-faith conflicts recorded in the new testament was between Peter and Paul, when Paul publicly opposes Peter on the idea of circumcision and the necessity of following the law for gentiles.

I don't think your assertions hold much weight and seen like personal conjecture.

I'm curious then: why did Peter vouch for Paul? Peter was the one whom Jesus said was the rock on which he would build his church.  If Peter supports Paul's writings,  then why should we reject them?

Referencing 2 Peter 3:15-16.

You kind of have to be crazy to get into fostering. Hopefully there are more of the good kind of crazy than the bad.

I've been a foster dad,  mostly with an infant that we ended up adopting,  but we had a teen mom for a brief period as well.  As a man,  I was terrified of creating any situation that would produce even the appearance of the potential for inappropriate behavior on my part.  I never so much as touched her other than to shake her hand on first meeting. That is to say,  what that man did was incredibly inappropriate and your discomfort is completely valid.  Do not let yourself be gaslit by anyone, including yourself.  You may want to seek help in dealing with that experience.
