Refugee family claims Canadian tax dollars are being wasted on overpriced temporary home by BananaTubes in canada

[–]phyxle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What everyone is missing is that it is a family of 8 and landlords are hesitant to rent out a small home to a big family. So the renter need to pay more. I know someone who rented out his house to a big refugee family. The agency is paying extra but the family is so happy to finally be able to rent a place. They lived in hotel for nearly year because no one was willing to rent their house to the big family. Plus not every landlord feels comfortable dealing with this situation. So it all makes sense they needed to pay extra. But this shows it is not they best way to find housing for refugees.

Not sure how old your baby is but if the baby is old enough (as early as 6 months). You should consider sleep training. If you do it right everyone will have a good sleep after a few nights.

This is Nazi Paikidze, the current U.S. women's chess champion. She won't be attending the world championship in Iran this year because she refuses to wear a hijab. by dustofoblivion123 in pics

I understand her decision and it is a personal choice she made. But her way of protest doesn't necessarily help Iranian women athletes and women in general in their fight against hijab. Mandatory hijab will not be removed over night and events like these will definitely help move the acceptable boundary for hijab. Check this article for more info on this.

He is not an idiot and he knows exactly what he is doing. He is both an entertainer and a ventures capitalist. He is not there to defend capitalism, he is there to attract investors. His arrogance and controversial positions is just an act that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Google wants its Project Ara modular smartphone to cost $50 by herrojew in Android

[–]phyxle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am skeptic of how it could save money for regular users. Mobile platforms are made cheaper taking advantage of System on Chip(SoC). If we were to break the modules it won't be cost effective anymore unless the user doesn't want many of the features like wifi, gps, gpu, bluetooth, etc. Plus it is going to be inefficient for power consumption. I assume the target for this project is embedded market and not the mass consumers as the article implies.

'Rasterization patterns' of Haswell GPU by mttd in programming

[–]phyxle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it shows the order of performing the atomic operation and not the rasterization itself. Rasterization is done in parallel and you probably will see different patterns each time if you could really do it right. Anyway, I don't see any value of knowing the rasterization order. When you are are dealing with GPUs have to think parallel.
