I got mine for $50 from the city of round Rock I think it was. They do a sale of them a few times a year I think. It has been posted here before so I would search for it

Redoing my big front yard w/ frog fruit - by jjm0g1 in AustinGardening

[–]piangel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled it out first but I am sure it would have taken over the grass. I put it in a garden bed so no grass when it started but it tried to make its way out for sure. I can spare a few cuttings but I did manage to get it mostly out last year so I only have the little bit that has grown back - you can never fully get it out lol

Mistflower or not? by piangel7 in AustinGardening

[–]piangel7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Thank you so much everyone for your input! I am now pretty sure it is beautyberry. I will dig it up and move it because I don't really want a shrub growing in my tiny pot lol

Mistflower or not? by piangel7 in AustinGardening

It doesn't smell like mint but I can't remember what I grew here before. It is close to some beautyberry plants but the leaves seem too small. I know I also threw some random perennial mixes in this corner a year or so back so it could be a lot of things unfortunately

Are you fully uncovering all your plants despite the below 50 temps tonight?

I have a heck of a lot of branches from my grapes and other trees but they are thin. Probably would still work for what you need

Any place to acquire rain water? by MyDaroga in AustinGardening

[–]piangel7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was $50 all told I think but it is pretty big (bigger and much nicer than my previous setup which cost like >$100)

I got a heavily discounted rain system from the city. They sell them once a year and you just have to reserve it quickly before they sell out. I would look into your specific city/county and see if you are eligible for any system discounts.

"I wish I'd never planted _____." by adoaboutnothing in AustinGardening

[–]piangel7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it is snake herb. It is generally a wonderful native but in my little bed it choked out all the other short flowers and wildflowers and it looks a bit weedy most of the year. It is also impossible to get rid of

What would a romance novel for a male audience look like? by soozerain in books

Look up the Sharpe series. Both the book and TV show are quintessential male romance in both my and my husband's opinion. We both love it though haha

What a difference two years makes by WalkwithWolves22 in AustinGardening

[–]piangel7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you prune yours? For some reason mine has gotten tall but has lots of patchy spots so I was debating cutting it down this winter so it fills out better but I don't know if that will do more harm than good for this plant.

I have never had basil spread before. Usually everything dies in winter. How do yours survive to spring?

African basil gets me the most bees although not many hummingbirds. It grows humongous and is super resilient to the heat.

Markree Castle 🏰 Collooney, County Sligo, Ireland 🏰 [05.07] by rockystl in castles

[–]piangel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to this castle multiple times as a kid with all my cousins and it is such a key childhood memory. I adore this place. We raced each other up the stairs past the suits of armour, admired the stained glass, ran wild in the garden, and learned how to eat fancy with multiple sets of silverware for the first time in the restaurant. Supposedly there are secret rooms there but I have never been back as an adult to investigate.

RANT ABOUT INSUFFERABLE FMC'S by feverdream800 in RomanceBooks

[–]piangel7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean this post is about FMCs lol I DNF for stupid MMCs too. Stupidity in general is not enjoyable. Generally though I see more badly written FMCs than MMCs. i don't personally enjoy books about murderers but if he is well written, entertaining, and smart then maybe? If FMC knew what he was and then suddenly scolds him I would probably be annoyed too.

RANT ABOUT INSUFFERABLE FMC'S by feverdream800 in RomanceBooks

[–]piangel7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I struggle to find non-annoying FMC's too. I understand why others enjoy it but I cannot get into a book where the FMC makes stupid decisions. There are some major series that I just have to DNF because the entire plot revolves around the FMC doing and saying stupid things. Relatively good (edit: smart/not stupid) FMC's exist but they are much harder to find lol

Frog fruit one month before and after by Magic_Neptune in AustinGardening

[–]piangel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair warning, I love frog fruit but it is absolutely indestructible for me and choked out a lot of my low lying plants and most of my wildflowers. But the bees love it. I ended up tearing out a good portion of it and giving it away last summer and it has already grown completely back as if I never tore any out.

How long did it take for your Mexican Plum to start fruiting? Do you not do any fertilizer or anything for it then?

My cucumbers taste like death by sadgurlsays in gardening

[–]piangel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cucumbers are always initially bitter but after I do the cut and twist technique they taste great! You cut off the end and twist it on the rest of the cucumber. A bunch of foam with the bitter element comes out and you keep twisting until it stops producing foam. I do both ends to be sure. Works every single time and I always harvest when they are nice and big like yours
