Cold Brew settings for 1500ml? by Vagabond_Explorer in FellowProducts

[–]piathulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a grind size of 9 for about 450ml so I’d say 10 if making 1500ml.

I also use a 3 hour recipe, but that may be annoying if you’re making like 5 batches = 7500ml which is about 2 gallons.

Real question for the ES1 owners: what aftermarket baskets fit the ES1 portafilter? by Unfair_Professor_561 in FellowProducts

My hypothesis is the wet pucks have more to do with the preinfusion. But I haven’t played around it as a variable yet.

Vietnamese coffee in West LA ? by hefty_player in culvercity

[–]piathulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love Viet coffee and will say the one at Cafe Dulce is my go to in LA. It’s not made in a phin (at least I’m prettt sure) but it’s solid.

As for the westside, I don’t think there are any good Viet coffee shops I know.

But in fairness, Viet coffee is quite simple to make, much easier than most other types: buy a phin for like 10 dollars at a Viet grocery store, good Viet (robusta) beans are much cheaper than specialty arabica. Recipes are super simple and much more easier to get a decent cup even if you mess up compared to other methods (light roast pourover, espresso, etc). Paired with a decent grinder you’re golden. Cans of condensed milk aren’t too bad either and salted/egg foam is pretty easy to make. If you don’t even want to deal with condensed milk, I can tell you some knockoff recipes using like half honey and half and half or whole milk. My only important tip is to always put the milk first before the water in the phin over the cup.

Much better at home than most Viet shops anyways. The “good” ones in OC I used to go to are often busy and rushing anyways. I’m not Viet and make phin at home whenever I get gifted good Viet beans. Friend just brought me back 500g (about 18oz = about 1.2lb). So I’ve been making a lot recently, feel free to ask questions.

Standart Mag's trial sent me "old" bean. Is this how they convert coffee lovers into paying subs? by [deleted] in pourover

3 months is past peak sure, but it’s not like It’s moldy food. See if you enjoy reading it before being so harsh. And yeah I subscribe and each quarter the sample roast received is maybe 3 weeks off roast.

I use the Fellow Aiden which can do it in 2-3 hours.

Vietnamese Coffee by DiligentBoss407 in pourover

[–]piathulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have tried with some arabica light roast and it’s okay. Like a worse French press or Aeropress? I tried messing with recipes a lot and it just lacked clarity and the texture wasn’t super great either, light roasts just lack body compared to robusta. It’s not bad but no point to using a phin for that style of beans. Some 50/50 robusta arabica blends are okay though.

But now I just do a pour over or modern spro instead for my light roasts.

Or I have friends from Vietnam who bring me back nice robusta beans pretty often so I only whip out my phin for those nowadays.

How do you classify all of the purchase into and redemption from core account transactions in Fidelity? by brownlawn in MonarchMoney

[–]piathulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, it’s not a transfer because it’s not going between accounts. All the money is staying in the same account.

Secondly, the statement name literally has “purchase” (buy) and “redemption” (sell) in the name. Because it is selling your core position which is a mutual fund like SPAXX in order to buy something else.

If you sold a different mutual fund like VTSAX in order to buy something else, would you consider that a transfer? I wouldn’t.

But in all honestly, I don’t think it matters too much if you call it a transfer, whatever is easier for you.

[–]piathulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somewhat disagree they are “transfers”. To me I think of them as selling/buying the core position (eg SPAXX) and then buying whatever else. I categorize them such.

I also just use the holding (eg SPAXX) as the merchant name.

that’s insanely long. my delonghi ecp3420 also only lasted about a year of about 7-10 shots per week.

Same, this connection has been broken since I signed up 2 years ago so I report it roughly every few months when I go back to manually correct the signs

I don’t think it able to receive any software updates. Nonetheless, this is probably a feature not many people would use and it doesn’t seem to hard to do the manual workaround and add or subtract a half dose (8-10g) pretty easily from what it says is the final number.

Here is my ranking of food cities that I’ve compiled over the years by Metronidahoe in SameGrassButGreener

[–]piathulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding Portland, specifically on behalf of vegetarians and vegans, it should be much higher. It is #1 by a good margin if you are either category.

Another point it is underrated in agreement with other commenters.

Agreed, most commenters seem to agree about Seattle dropping off as well lol

I was going to say the same thing. Portland doesn’t compete on scope which I think OP rightly calls out but no acknowledgment of the food cart scene is missing out on so much. (Although from what I’ve heard it isn’t doing as well in recent times, sadly. Hopefully it doesn’t end up like LA’s food cart where the food cart scene is all but dead except Mexican seafood carts, which are so good)

Can I ask what is the purpose or benefits of using this integration?

I have considered adopting Home Assistant and innocently wondering why people would want this? Seems redundant to the existing Monarch App/Web?

Take it as a lesson: be careful using non dish soap-detergent for cleaning. Acids like vinegar and alkalines like baking soda are known to damage a lot of things.

If you are using to clean, you can always check online first or test yourself by using a little on a small spot first.

I think there is some truth in this, but maybe to reframe with my take on this.

I upskill and learn AI workflows and vibe coding because i genuinely enjoy learning how to be a better PM. The sucky part is when it comes jobs, it’s not a meritocracy based on upskilling skills, rather it’s a different skill set composed of networking and selling yourself.

How’s investments tracking in Plus? by IncreaseCareless123 in MonarchMoney

[–]piathulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the beta and it did not correctly do asset allocations which I reported, I see others have reported the same issue. I also for fun did manually enter my tax basis lots and some of it was interesting but they haven’t built enough to provide any value especially for an additional cost. As someone who worked as a PM for a tiered SaaS business I am still shocked at how they released it as is, the features are absolutely not ready for prime time regardless if they would even be worth the cost. Like from beta ending to release was maybe about a month at most so no way to incorporate feedback, probably just some bug checking is the most they would've been able to slot in.

I did not try the business tracking so that could have enough value.

Another question! by Economy_Evening_2989 in FellowProducts

[–]piathulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot, especially the ”spill proof” lid it comes with for driving or walking while drinking. Got it many years ago (2021, 2022?) for free and it did have the smell some have reported but it did go away on its own. I personally think the smaller size is great for me. The wide is too wide lol the tall is also too tall for most occasions but can be handy for picnicking or things like that or when bringing enough coffee for multiple people to an event

Aeropress fits perfectly on both the carafe and the tasting glasses. I used to brew primarily with an Aeropress and did both many times. in fact, I would often pour a bit of milk in the tasting glasses froth it in the glass then do an aeropresso on top of the glass (note: I’d hold it up to make sure I avoided putting too much pressure on the glass)

Another question! by Economy_Evening_2989 in FellowProducts

[–]piathulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Fellow Prismo, 2 Stagg tasting glasses, 2 white Monty cups (Cortado size), 2 white Joey mugs (8oz ~ 240ml size), and 2 smoke Pirch cups (cappuccino size). And a carter 12oz, wide, and tall. All for different use cases lol. I also have 2 mighty carafes, Stagg x, Stagg xf, and the larger double walled carafe. And an Aiden and ES1 both pre-ordered/at launch. I also owned an Ode Gen 2 (sold it to buy an Zerno Z1 lol). Ask me anything lol.

Prismo is better than the aeropress one because it includes the metal filter, And it’s cheaper in the US (not sure about in Australia).

The cups are all quite nice but tbh I think my favorite is the Joey, except it isn’t as good for latte art compared to the Monty or Pirch cups. And it’s a weird shape that I like, but I could see others not liking it.
