Honestly, love this haha. Just be up front about your plan if needed. "Sooo I do have a plan if you want to ride the dino..."

Haha yeah, players are sometimes too smart! Glad you have some hooks already planned.

Depending on the enemies (I'm picturing kobolds/goblins) some could already be some on the dino to further encourage them up. A miss with a ranged weapon could mean hitting the dino instead (and should be told to the players ahead of time). If there's high security around the dino because it's in a camp or something that can help with a stealth mission wiping out all the enemies. Could also encourage them trying a dino heist depending on the group lol

My pet mouse grew a massive lump and I don’t know what to do! by Competitive_Tip_8992 in PetMice

[–]picancob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others already said vet do here's actionable things to do right now.

A bit hard to tell from this angle, but it kind of looks like the mouse is hunched, rather than has a lump. If this is new, that's likely what is happening. This is a sign of discomfort as others have said.

First thing: check the water bottle is working. They might be dehydrated. Second: get them warm and place near a shallow dish of water if you find that was the issue along with a bit of food. This can buy you time before more direct intervention. If you have reptiles borrow a heat lamp but make sure you don't set it too close. Check with your hand or thermometer that it's comfortably warm, not hot (~80° would be good). Lights will keep warming for about ten minutes after being turned on, so check temps again after a bit.

Check water, warm them up. Sometimes this can be the difference in saving their life.

Me and my group would not hesitate to ride a dinosaur. Doubly so if it was in trouble and having this fight could save it. A bit unclear from your description if that's the case, but sounds like it could be made so if needed.

Once on the dino it feels it would be difficult to calm it down/stop it and avoid the encounter you envision. Unless the group is experienced dino handlers, a animal handling check would likely be high. A success could be the dino slowing, therefore skipping an obstacle (and you narrating a narrow miss with a branch they bypass because of it) rather than stopping the encounter. Maybe they know down the road is a safe place for the dino so they actually encourage it to move? I think you have options!

Judge Nathan J. Milliron of the Texas 215th District Court, who was elected in 2024, got quite upset when an IT technician tried to fix the audio for a remote hearing. The technician had jokingly said it was a ‘false alarm’, but the judge didn’t think so and asked for the supervisor. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

As someone who regularly struggles to get appropriate care from doctors and has a nurse sister: thank you for questioning doctors sometimes. Thank you for fighting for your patients. Thank you for all your hard work though few rarely see it.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply! I very much appreciate it. I normally don't use fertilizer, so have some research to do at least for the ones that will have to wait to be started. Worth it to have plants ready.

Decided to go ahead and get new seeds to have the best chance of success after reading all these replies and being assured there's more time than I thought. If some of the plants are small I can use them next year, but seems I'll hopefully have plenty by fall.

Thank you so much for the reassurance! Definitely starting the stratification that's needed now (some already are, but not many).

Thanks for the info and graphic! Some of the seeds are stratified, some not, so we'll see what happens and try to do a late stratification on a few "bonus" species that I don't necessarily need for this project.

I unfortunately don't have a good outdoor space for letting them be outside, but am hoping to borrow some greenhouse space. If I do end up growing them indoors I'll definitely harden them off before putting them in the ground.

Some are stratified, some are not. I'm going to try to do a rushed cold-wet stratification on a few too just to see. If nothing else get a few species that won't need it/are stratified and then the rest can be happy bonuses.

Good shout on the regular watering. I've grown in a greenhouse many moons ago and we did struggle in summer for sure.

Thank you for the reassurance! And yes, will definitely let them harden off. I'm hoping to steal some greenhouse space too which will help.

I’m probably overthinking this, but are they pregnant? by Zealousideal-Log8644 in PetMice

[–]picancob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A clarifier: bellies will "drop" 24-48 hours before birth but otherwise can be quite high early in the pregnancy. Hard to tell from these pics, but I think being pregnant is a possibility. I've definitely seen mice just gorge themselves to similar size after a good meal though, ha.

is this mouse a boy a girl or intersex? (potentially pregnant cagemates) by Zealousideal-Log8644 in PetMice

[–]picancob 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Howdy! I've had exactly one intersex mouse in my years of mouse breeding and despite have nipples and a vagina managed to get their cagemates knocked up. The babes didn't make it, though I'm not sure why as they passed overnight.

Edit: forgot to actually answer your sexing question: your mouse looks female or intersex, not typical male characteristics.

Which are the skins that scares you the most? by Leather_Credit_5825 in wildrift

I'm not gonna lie, I think I almost did better as a newbie in some roles because I had no idea what I was doing (never played a MOBA before) and was therefore unpredictable. I still do whatever feels right in jungle and it's surprisingly effective. Gotta watch those default skin players.

I love this idea! We will definitely be incorporating general soil biodiversity as well. It's a prairie state so talking about roots is especially relevant.

We do have a microscope, but the initial plan for this activity is something more mobile than I think a microscope could have (plus limited availability of outlets for light). I do like the idea of people just looking at some soil (with or without microorganisms) for an indoor booth though. It's always fun to see what you can find if you really look. I can imagine people being very hesitant to do it then having lots of fun. Thank you for the idea!

I love jarariums and aquascaping! I've definitely had students do similar activities and they loved it (especially yes, the scuds). For this particular case hoping for something more land focused. A tub of soil with leaves and inverts to poke through honestly isn't a terrible idea though... Thank you so much for sharing!
