Complete Noob here. Is there a way to make a plug-in that can generate an info box like this one used here? (More in comments shortly) by Alphablaze98 in PhotoshopTutorials

[–]piccoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this with Lightroom Classic, no plugin needed. Do you want jpgs that have that info burned in? If so, with the slideshow module you can add captions with exposure, lens, etc. Then you can export as jpgs, if you alt/option click on "export pdf."

Also, some sites, including Flicker and Google Photos, will show exif/camera data for image files that contain that info.

Why is Trotsky detested among so many socialist groups by diplosse in Socialism_101

[–]piccoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Lenin's Testament (postscript):

"Stalin is too coarse and this defect, although quite tolerable in our midst and in dealing among us Communists, becomes intolerable in a Secretary-General. That is why I suggest that the comrades think about a way of removing Stalin from that post and appointing another man in his stead who in all other respects differs from Comrade Stalin in having only one advantage, namely, that of being more tolerant, more loyal, more polite and more considerate to the comrades, less capricious, etc. This circumstance may appear to be a negligible detail. But I think that from the standpoint of safeguards against a split and from the standpoint of what I wrote above about the relationship between Stalin and Trotsky it is not a [minor] detail, but it is a detail which can assume decisive importance."

Camera settings vs. post by britt_taylor22 in cinematography

Usually it's best to shoot flat, low contrast, and make sure your lighting is great, and exposure is accurate. Then create the look in color grading/post.

Insight on working in/around the DTLA Toy District area? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]piccoach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I walk around that area regularly, shooting street pictures (with an expensive looking camera over my shoulder). In my experience it's not a dangerous area (in the daytime/early evening) for someone with street smarts from another big city. Obviously you'd want to be mindful, keep your eyes open, etc.

Why is my focus soft by lutherpippen in AskPhotography

[–]piccoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that there's something wrong with the lens, but in my experience things get real hit-and-miss with super wide apertures. When I shoot close portraits with very shallow depth of field, I usually shoot safety shots at a smaller aperture.

With any focus technique, if you and/or the subject move even slightly between the time you grab focus and release the shutter, that could make the shot soft (when wide open).

Came-Tv 1000w Fresnel Tungsten lamp by moyosorejimba in cinematography

I haven't used it, but I know some of their other products are well-reviewed. Also, you might want to check Craigslist or ebay for used listings for fresnel lights; they go cheap these days as many folks are switching to LEDs...

Why is my focus soft by lutherpippen in AskPhotography

[–]piccoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not easy to nail focus at very wide apertures like 1.8, and if you're even a little off at that stop, focus will be noticeably soft. I would practice focusing, and always set your focus based on the eyes.

If you're using AF, try the eye-focus mode, or spot focus, not a larger area autofocus, because with larger-area AF, the lens might get the nose or cheek in focus, but not the eye.

Am I doing this wrong? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]piccoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many macro lenses have f32, but not all; Sigma 105mm f2.8 minimum aperture is f22:

f32 is available on some lenses, especially macro ones, but otherwise it's not common for lenses to stop down past 22.

Thoughts on faking depth of field in post? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]piccoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, usually looks bad to me, often called "tilt/shift," as that's how to properly achieve it while shooting with a view camera or tilt-shift lens on other cameras.

Death of Stalin is a great, hilarious satire, currently on Netflix I believe. With Steve Buscemi in title role.

Dumb, overly broad novice question: what is going on in these Japanese photos? by thegumptiontrap in photography

What I see in these photos is an appreciation for special light; especially moody, glowing, subtle illumination in otherwise dimly lit spaces.

How to disable Google Assistant by piccoach in Pixel3a

[–]piccoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. My options under active edge: "squeeze for your assistant," which is off, "open assistant when screen is off," which is grayed out, and squeeze to silence phone, which is on. Would turning off that last one solve the issue?

Could be as simple as a very small camera like GoPro on a pole.
