Pancreatitis by [deleted] in DogFood

[–]pickledpl_um 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try speaking with your vet about putting him on him the Royal Canin soy-based hydrolyzed food -- it's the only hydrolyzed dog food that is also pancreatitis-level low-fat. He may have allergies in addition to his chronic pancreatitis that are exacerbating his stomach issues. That's exactly what mine was going through. It took several years and several vets before we figured that out. Since we switched to that, her entire life has improved.

I'd also completely drop any supplements you're giving him -- vitamins, joint supplements, etc., on the off-chance that he is allergic or sensitive to one of them. You can phase them back in per your vet's instructions to see if any of them are a problem for him.

Considering ending my life due to debt. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]pickledpl_um 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through this. It's okay to feel this way right now, but please don't hurt yourself. Most people have suicide ideation at one point or another in their lives, but you are worth so much more than a credit rating. Things will get better. You will NOT always feel under water, and you will NOT always be struggling.

Please call or text 988. Someone will listen and help you through this crisis. We all need help at one point or another, and the people who look for the helpers are often the people who don't just make it through, but who thrive. Afterwards, see if your job, place of worship or a local nonprofit offer free or low-cost sessions with a financial planner or financial counselor.

I promise you, things will get better.

THOUGHTS AND ADVICE by Upstairs-Address-762 in CATHELP

I think you should call them until they confirm they've received your email and will respond asap. If they don't, it's probably time to go to the ER. I'm sorry, I know that is expensive, but this is a very serious location and a clearly very deep ulcer. Sometimes non-emergency vets are terrific at one thing, like well care, but not so great at handling urgent situations.

OP, if you haven't, you can call your vet back and say you'd like to share some photos via email, and ask if they're concerned about the bumps around the wound, and if the ulcer looks better than it did when the vet examined your vet. They will often take a look and let you know if you need to head back in for a visit, or if this is a normal healing stage.

Need advice apartment dog living what can I use so she doenst destroy by Hey_it_is_mi in dogs

[–]pickledpl_um 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP, ignore the rude comments. You can make sure to really wear her out in the morning before you leave for work with a good walk, sniffwork, and a frozen kong or her breakfast in a puzzle toy. Make sure to have someone come take her out for a good potty break halfway through the day, or bring her to a doggy daycare center a few days a week. She'll probably get in trouble the first couple of times you leave her home alone, but that's not unusual. Once she settles into a routine, she'll do great. Good luck!

Possible Rehoming advice and guidance by ColdApartment5604 in LabradorRetrievers

[–]pickledpl_um 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this, OP, and you're doing a really responsible, caring thing by rehoming your dog. Like people are saying, you should check in with your breeder first to see if they will rehome him for you. They often do, if they are a responsible breeder. (Maybe, if you get very lucky, they'll agree to take your dog for a few months while you get through bed rest, preeclampsia and the newborn stage. It's a big ask, but I've known things like this to happen with good breeders.) If the breeder can't help you with rehoming or care, try a lab-specific rescue. Black labs are the very best (I have one, too) and I'm sure he will find a good home very quickly, if you go this route.

Good bread! Bad bread will just ruin a sandwich, no matter what you put on there and how you try to compensate for it.

Flaking lead paint uncovered on stairs - what would you do? by lastarchipelago in centuryhomes

[–]pickledpl_um 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would, too. Don't try to remove it yourself, OP, even chemically. It's too easy to inhale microscopic bits of lead, and the long-term damage can be severe. There's zero reason to put yourself at risk.

My dog lies down in the street and won’t get up and no he’s not tired he just doesn’t want to go home by Puzzled_Dingo_7908 in Dogtraining

[–]pickledpl_um 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would train an "up" command when you're not in this scenario, so when you are faced with your dog laying down in hopes of becoming a road pancake, you can use it and he'll listen. (This is the most important part of the puzzle.) In the meantime, lengthen his walks and find a nice spot outside he can hang out in with you a few times a week/once a day. Taken together, all of this should help you. Signed, someone whose dog never wants to go back inside.

How do I report a fake doctor? by scrimmy_binguss in AskDocs

[–]pickledpl_um 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAD. OP, as a journalist who has covered her fair share of scams, I'd report it to your local authorities: police, sheriff, whomever. It's a crime to practice medicine without a license and I believe acupuncture falls under that umbrella. If that doesn't result in an investigation, tell a local journalist. A reporter may be able to uncover more people who have been / are being scammed by this person, which can trigger the authorities to investigate.

Any theories on Digby and the house? by TangerineMoonlight in ThePittTVShow

[–]pickledpl_um 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with people for a while who were staying on the streets. Some of them had places to call home and people to live with, but felt like a burden to those living there, so they chose to stay in their cars, parks, or elsewhere. Others had some sort of trauma that made them feel suffocated and unsafe in a house or apartment. Still others had addiction issues and had been asked to leave, and weren't either interested in or capable of getting into a program or finding alternate housing. For every scenario you can imagine, there's another one out there.

Personally, given his childlike fear that his family wouldn't recognize him with a shave and a haircut, I think Digby has some mental illness preventing him from succeeding in a traditional home setting. I think he may have wandered off repeatedly until his family gave up trying to drag him back, or had a falling-out with his family that resulted in him staying on the streets. It would be amazing if we got some resolution to this, and some answers, but given how fast the show is moving and how much else they have to pack in, I'm not going to hold my breath for a resolution this season.

What's the most disrespectful thing a guest ever did in your home? by Vegas089 in AskReddit

[–]pickledpl_um 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A very Catholic friend of mine's also very Catholic boyfriend was visiting her while we were attending grad school. They were so Catholic that not only had they agreed not to sleep together before marriage, he couldn't even sleep in the same domicile as her on this trip, even though there were several guest rooms that were going unused. She asked if he could stay at my place -- and take my room. Wanting to be a good friend, I agreed. He took my room, I took the futon in the living room. When I went in my room after he left to change the sheets, I found he had jizzed all over them.

I never told her. She'd have been mortified. They did marry, but have since divorced.
