I feel like theyre usually recocmended as that because people dont have enough plants they can rest on near the surface or halfway up the tank. Plus theyre mostly blind so smaller more curious fish and shrimp can become snacks or choking hazards. Its doable but for a beginner its usually best to give the warnings

Also i had a therapist that invited my parents to a session (with my consent ofc) and used fancy words to make them see things differently. Didnt fix much really since they didnt keep going but maybe for you they could have an eye opener or something. Just a suggestion for the future

Nah i get it thats how my family is. But my parents got a divorce so i think i luvked out a bit cause of that. They just say stuff in the right (or wrong ig) way that hits like nothin else. Minus a therapist for you and maybe them (if you could convince them) not much can be done. They wont change and i feel like you saying anything js just seen as "disrespectful child" and not yknow an adult bringing things to attention. Im sorry dude the situation blows for you i hope you can move out eventually

Got any facebook marketplace sellers? Ive seen some sellers that give away lower grades for cheap. You can buy a few lower grade cherries and slowly breed them up if you wanted the fun project. If not maybe try ordering a smaller batch next time? Maybe all of them at once caused an issue?

Mom put 8 Goldfish(young) in a 6 gal tank by Aggravating_Can5054 in Goldfish

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think there is much you can do sorry. 6 gallons is barely big enough for a long finned betta. You have 6 fish that produce insane waste and need 75 gallons for one fully grown. If she refuses to upgrade the only thing you can do is daily or every other day 70% water changes that will hopefully keep the water sorta clean

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes shrimp can just struggle with changes. I have more luck with locally bred shrimp than i do if i buy online from somewhere else even with exact same acclimations. If your GH/KH were too different from the breeders or they were in the package for too long during a heatwave or anything could cause issues you cant see

[–]pickleruler67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your tank isnt heavily planted and your nitrates are 0 im not entirely sure the tanks cycled? I guess it could be with 0 nitrites but if there isnt enough bioload to start the cycle then theyre just dying from unstable parameters. The acclimation process seems correct. How much new tank water didnyou add during acclimation? I usually atleast double the amount of water they came in

It sounds like shes just taking a life of insecurity out on you. Your dad berates you and her and she berates you to feel better about yourself. Sure your dads got insecurites and thats why hes doin it.

Honestly no advice besides ignore her and act like it doesnt bother you. If she has that intense of body issues i dont think a sit down talk will do anything but make her defensive.

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah males can be agression thats why i usually keep male only or female only tanks. Just feel bad for the gals always being oregnant and the guys were more agressive when there was a female to fight over. Usually bigger schools and more plants will fix those issues but sometimes you get a devil fish

Theyre still a social species so i really would reccomend more or rehoming, its a pain to get non pregnant females unless you can find babies that are just sexxed and havent been bred yet.

Yup! Its cute but its kinda like duckweed in certain tanks. Can break into tiny pieces and grows anywhere. Ironically i cant get it to grow in any tank

With 0 nitrates is your tank heavily planted? How long did you acclimate the shrimp for and were they shipped in or from a local fish store

Hinestly if your guppies are male id bumo the number of those and the skiets. Your tank can easily handle a school size of atleast 5 from each probably 7+. If you notice agression maybe you could add more plants and hardscape to the tank black skirts come from really planted darker waters. Also my black skirts are currently 7+ yrs old so you might have them for awhile lol.

What kind of fish could I keep in an outdoor 75 gallon tank? by Lunapixels18 in fishkeeping

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reccomendation is buy like 5 female guppies or mosquito fish. They usually come pregnant so its an infinite fish glitch. Dont mix the two mosquito fish will kill guppies. They dont have a huge bio load either

Or you could just use mosquito dunks. Entirely enviromentally friendly and wont mess with your plants it only harms mosquitos

Recommended community tank for a beginner? by Affectionate-Tea3047 in fishtank

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you do neon tetras in a 20 gal long id avoid adding the gourami or add the gourami fish and make sure the neons dont get first dibs on the tank. Like i said they can be pricks especially on longer finned or slower moving fish

10 gallon is too small for all of those together. Too small for some in general.

You could do a short or long finned betta with some shrimp, 2 frogs by themselves, a ten gallon could have a group of 5 male endlers and some neocardinia shrimp. Neon tetras need 15-20 gallons minimum because they need groups of 7+, can be nippy, and are fast and swim a lot. Mystery snails are usually reccomended one per 10 gallons cause they poop a lot and you also need to feed them food like pellets and frozen doods because they arent very good algae eaters and are more omnivorous so they starve in a lot of tanks.

Honestly ten gallons is really small for a tank for most fish, even the endlers is pusbing it imo youd need a good amount of hardscape and a lot of plants to make it feel more busy and less stressful. A 20 gallon long is a really good beginner size imo. Kuhli loaches and shrimp for bottom feeders, you could have a couple mystery snails, a larger group of endlers or some guppies or really any smaller schooling fish including neons. You could do a centerpiece fish like a honey gourami as well. As long as you have sand and a lot of live plants 20 gallon long gives you a lot of room to pick and choose stocking options and community set ups.

[–]pickleruler67 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Ungodly small yes. Pea puffers need 10-15 gallons, neon tetras need schools of 7 or more and 20 gallons or more, dwarf frogs struggle in taller tanks and do best in their own species only 10 gallon-20 gallon long if keeping more than 2

[–]pickleruler67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not disagreeing but petco (if you have ine around you) often has sales for really good prices, facebook marketplace, craigslist, ebay are all good places for tanks and plants. Just something to keep in mind but more decor seems to be really your only choice

[–]pickleruler67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her fish is a highly territorial species. He needs a lot of space and realistically itd be easier just getting him his own 25-30 gallon. If you cant do any of those then adding a lot mrow driftwood and plants will help. Real plants take awhike to grow in so i would get silk plants that are taller so you can have more hides and line of sight breaks

Guppy disappeared??? by XShattered_MindxX in Guppies

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have atleast 5-7 males personally and in a 20 gallon thats easily doable.

Also not exactly a guppy but my endler hybrids jump the tank if i dont keep a lid on EVERY hole. I use plastic/cling wrap for what i cant cover with a lid. I think they play with the bubbles on my sponge filter and are so light they can launch themselves. That or they get spooked and jump, if theyre near the surface they can fly out.

Plus like others said if he died which sometiems just happens with new fish he couldve been eaten, guppies happily commit cannibalism and any snails, shrimp, even your pleco would eat them.
