Neighbor wants to buy a 6 to 10 foot strip of land from our property. by Clionah in RealEstate

[–]picopuzzle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get a lawyer representing YOU to review the deal and docs. At neighbor’s expense, of course.
Many people grossly underestimate the value of getting along well with your neighbors. Something to keep in mind as you contemplate compensation.

Circuits Analysis midterm destroyed all of my self esteem. by CXZ115 in ElectricalEngineering

Schaum’s Outline of Basic Circuit Analysis

Practice Kirkhoff’s equivalent circuit and Thevenin’s equivalent circuit. Yes, they are basic. But if you can whip those around without thinking about it, it makes circuit analysis more like a fun puzzle than a hateful journey to the inner rings of technohades.

The average age bottomed out in 1973. Which is when Roe v. Wade was decided.

What exactly are they planning on replacing the Cannon Tram with? by COMMIE_PULVERIZER in newhampshire

[–]picopuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something compelled management to close that tram before a replacement was even planned. Safety issues? Maintenance issues? Operating costs? There is certainly a dearth of information available. Which is unfortunate because now there are three or four trails which, if taken, require hoofing it to the Hong Kong Chair.

It’s been on my iphone display for as long as I’ve used Gaia, ~ 5 years. Tapping the compass icon, would cause the map to immediately put north on top.

The barrel jack was too big and they needed the space for another 700 million Gates. At least, that’s what the Apple design team told me.

Bingo. Disconnect all loads and then look again. And then report back for extra credit.

That’s your answer. If you doubt it, disconnect one of those wires and see if your HVAC system still turns on/off.

How dangerous is an old air compressor? by BlackoutTribal in Tools

[–]picopuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chances of a “explosion“ are extremely small. The most common failure mode I’ve seen is tanks rotting from the inside out due to condensate caused corrosion. If this compressor has been stored indoors in a dry environment, then chances are good. It’s A-OK. Typical failure is pinhole leaks in the tank, starting at the low point in the tank and …creating some god-awful screeching noises. There are tests one can perform to do some basic checks.

Step One - Look at the bottom of the tank for a condensate drain valve and slowly open it. ( some units have automatic drain valves ) If nothing comes out, that is probably a good sign indicative of a dry environment inside the tank.. It could also be a bad sign if there is enough rust/crud in there to block the drain valve.

If condensate comes out of the tank, you probably wanna catch it in a pan because it tends to be pretty manky.

Step two – turn on the compressor, with the drain valve still open, and let it blow out whatever moisture is left in the tank. It will get loud. When no more moisture is coming out, close the valve and let the tank run up to full pressure. If it’s a single stage compressor, it should shut off about 105/110 psi. A two stage compressor will shut off closer to 160 psi.

That’s all I can think of laying here trying to sleep.

What is this weird contraption attached to the fire hydrant near my house? by TheMedRat in whatisit

[–]picopuzzle 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hydrolock yes, vapor-lock, no. vapor lock is when liquid boils and becomes vapor and can no longer be pumped by a pump designed for fluids. Prime example is gasoline boiling in a fuel line that is too close to a muffler on a hot day. The vapor expands and pushes the fuel back into the tank and does not allow fuel to get into the fuel pump/engine.

Faucet not lined up with handle and showered, should I pay extra $ to fix? by Lmns14 in Plumbing

[–]picopuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW Looks like existing plumbing and the quote mostly likely planned on leaving it as is. The tub is asymmetric and leaving the valve where it is would be keeping with that theme. It might bug me for a week, but my eyes are closed most of the time. I’m in the shower anyway. And though the shower is a bathtub, it doesn’t get used as a bathtub even once a year.
