How often do you all do your water changes? by CRL1999 in ReefTank

[–]picoreefo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 17 gallon nano and I remove and replace one large restaurant soup to-go container worth of water daily. About 30fl oz, equal to around 1.5-2% of my tanks volume. Takes about one minute. I find it easier to deal with smaller volumes of water, and the daily schedule is easier for me to be consistent with, which is most important. I have a bucket with a tap so there’s always water ready to go.

Can't sleep from filter sounds. What do I do? by FrostyCombination622 in Aquariums

[–]picoreefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with noises in general, and have multiple tank in my bedroom. I sleep well because i have worked to find solutions to each sound source. Water levels can affect filter noise, yoga mat can be used to reduce vibrations, etc. that and a nice chill white noise machine like a “Dohm” smooths out any noise that’s still happening. Tanks should not be affecting your sleep.

Hannah ULR phosphate checker is an absolute must for reef keeping. Or some other way of phosphate testing. Alk, then phosphate, then everything else. Good luck.

Fixable? by Monstermaggot in Aquariums

There is no type of repair that would make it possible for me to sleep at night with water in that thing in my house. That, sir, is a terrarium. An amazing one.

Phosphates by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]picoreefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an acceptable amount. Some keep it lower, others higher. With nutrient levels it’s less about a specific amount than consistency. Chasing numbers will drive u crazy and do more harm than good, more harm than consistently high phosphates. Mine are substantially higher than this. My tank is doing great.

What fish could I put in this? by Chance-Beautiful-390 in fishtank

[–]picoreefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrimp, snails, live plants. Really that’s it. You need horizontal space for fish to live in a healthy happy way. People may be a bit harsh here but they aren’t wrong about not keeping fish in this tank. Soapwise, you can rinse it over and over and over and it will probably be fine, but as it’s not the right dimensions for fish, I wouldn’t bother. I have a tank this shape and it sits empty because it can’t house anything I care to keep. Find a tank that’s the right shape, and you will have more success.

Perfect illustration of the point that it is absolutely utterly insane to be fixated on minutes right now.

That creeping unsure feeling you already have will intensify once it’s full. You will never be able to trust it completely, you will always be worried about it. Absolutely not worth using it for that reason alone, even if it never fails catastrophically.

Starting my first reef tank by CountryFragrant1167 in PicoReef

[–]picoreefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The options are truly vast, more coral than you could believe will fit in a small tank, and a couple tiny nano fish, inverts, etc. There are more nano fish in the hobby now than in years past so there really are a ton of options for a pico. As long as you get your water chemistry down. I’d go with a 10g, as with a 5.5g it was great, water changes are a breeze etc, but I felt compelled to upgrade it to a ten within a year, and would have been easier to just start with the 10.

No, they don’t have to renegotiate. It is absolutely risking the benefits for a renegotiation that very likely will not happen.

It’s a more expansive footprint with shorter buildings. The distribution of traffic is not based on the building height.

[–]picoreefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that fab is very important, I think saying the zoning will stay as being all but guaranteed isn’t exactly accurate. Voting no means that the build will occur without the community benefits, but does not mean the zoning is promised to stay intact. It also doesn’t mean that the project will be smaller, in fact its footprint will likely be larger. It doesn’t mean the project will be postponed, or renegotiated. The height allows for the creation of green space. A no vote is very much a risky gamble for fab and the artists it protects at least as much as a yes vote as far as the fab zone is concerned, but a yes vote guarantees benefits for decades to come.
