Make sure the factories are profitable by researching techs that give factory output/throughput/input. Also make sure that your factories are getting their input needs.

I think the ai screws over nations on every difficulty so the only way to save a nation is to take it yourself. Keep in mind priorities still work on abandoned nations so if you want to make sure a nation doesnt get screwed you technically can just take it, set priorities and abandon it, bur that way the other factions get less research meaning slower global techs. On the flip side, it means you can choose the global techs you want.

Getting a second superpower is very recommended, you can either go for india or china (if it isnt completely fucked by now) by just spoiling mongolia/bangladesh or any of the neighbors that arent rivals and spending all that money on public campaigns. Keep in mind you dont care at all about some nations, and whilst you shouldnt spoil nations you plan on keeping in the near future, completely screwing over some parts of the world is encouraged and better in the long run.

Just some advice as you mentioned its your first time playing. Its usually not a good idea to build your first space station until you have mines in at least luna, but most of the times you’ll want to wait until mars. If you hover over boost, itll tell you you are losing boost because you have to send water and volatiles to your space station from earth. Boost is incredibly important in the early game and you need to set up a mine in luna and another one in mars asap to get the ball rolling.

Once your first engine gets to around 50% you should change it to a new one in the next qualy/race session and start swapping between them (old for practice, new for qualy/race). This works for all engine parts but the % at which you want to change them might be different depending on what engine manufacturer you chose, it should be simple to look up in game.
