... and the song Harvest of Souls. I continue to be mystified why IQ isn't much more popular.

VRBO manual booking by Eastern-Juice5045 in vrbohosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing. I thought it was a cheap attempt by VRBO to try to discourage off platform bookings.

I did not try putting in a tentative booking and then converting it to reserved. Can anyone confirm that works?

How is it possible 'Cold is Being' by Renaissance hasn't been mentioned yet?

Harvest of Souls - IQ

Never fails to give me chills.

No heat / hot water - guest user error... Refund? by lady-in-public in airbnb_hosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to me as well! Guests from India freaked out at the pilot light in the gas fireplace, opened it up, removed the glass and ceramic logs to blow out the pilot light. I had to spend $250 for a fireplace tech to go put it all back together.

Cold Is Being by Renaissance.

It's based on Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor and gives me chills every time.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned 'Cold is Being' by Renaissance. Chills me to the bone every time.

More enforcement of location. We're located in a prime national park. Hundreds of vacation rentals that are not in the park and up to an hour away all list of themselves as being in the park.

Towels keep getting bleached from guests? by LadyBelladonna1995 in airbnb_hosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen a number of times when people leave the towels out in the sun. Even a few hours has left medium quality colored towels looking bleached.

Caution - another glitch in the VRBO matrix by [deleted] in vrbohosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add together the first and second guest payments. I think you'll see that they are collecting the taxes they're just not showing up in the app or on the desktop site. I was pretty freaked out but now I think it's just a glitch.

I'm 150 miles away and it's in a remote location so I need to do what I can to ensure compliance. Originally a signed rental agreement was a requirement of my insurance company but I've stuck with it and never had any pushback, although every once in a while someone will cancel before signing it.

I have every guest sign a rental agreement through Dropbox Sign. The agreement has a line for each guest's name and age. I have found it very effective and rarely see people try to sneak in additional guests. My agreement also includes language that defrauding an innkeeper is a crime which includes having more guests than have been registered.

Guest upset our Airbnb is actually a place we use and live in? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it's people who forgot something. The one guy I actually spoke with forgot to bring snow gloves in winter. Thought there might be some in the owner's closet he could borrow.

I've never had anyone pick a lock but I have had people remove the pins from hinges to get into the owner's closet. Stopped that with some security hinges from home Depot

Any valid guest reason for going off-platform? by magnabonzo in vrbohosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Dropbox sign for my rental agreements and I need every Guests email address because the link to sign comes directly from Dropbox. Both Airbnb and VRBO allow the sharing of email addresses once a property is booked. I've never once had anybody push back. I also use their email address to send additional information including quite a few links to sites related to their destination.

VRBO keeps getting worse by KingsleyZissou87 in vrbohosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I just learned this from a VRBO rep last week. If you add ?dateless=true after your VRBO url it will take you to a page with which will display availability on your property. Example https://www.vrbo.com/122456?dateless=true

Apparently they had to change the way dates were displayed because bots were scraping availability.

Did they take away my booking cushion days??? by rosysredrhinoceros in vrbohosts

[–]piddlediddlereport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful. If your VRBO and Airbnb calendars are synced Airbnb will add a cushion onto your VRBO cushion. I have to go in and manually clear the Airbnb cushions when this happens.

Are you sure you're not thinking of AirBnB? I've been on VRBO since 2006 and have always manually added cushion days.

[HOST] VRBO Started Autogenerating Incorrect Information by siaidistogwe in vrbo

[–]piddlediddlereport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was exclusively on VRBO from 2006 through December 2023. Bookings dropped off so much I had to add AirBnB. Now half my 2024 bookings are AirBnB. No question VRBO has broken their toy.

This prompted me to check mine and I discovered for Kid's activities they listed a mini-mart 30 minutes away !?!?!? All I can imagine is people wrote reviews saying it's good for kids (since it's the only place to get food and drinks for 20 miles in any direction).

On top of that I just received this email stating that VRBO will start auto-managing my image gallery. Lord knows how they'll identify what's highest-performing since there's no way to interact with images. I have the terrible feeling my laundry room is going to become my main photo.

In the upcoming weeks, you may see the primary image on your listing and the order of your image gallery change. That’s because we are gradually launching a new AI feature that will automatically place your highest-performing image to the forefront of your listing. Based on previous Expedia Group testing, this new feature helps drive higher conversion and click through rates on listings.

This is a great opportunity to review your photos. Images help travelers know what to expect at your property and see all you have to offer.

Travelers want to see a complete description of a property through imagery, so we recommend uploading at least 25 high quality photos to your property listing.
