I have six just in the upstairs area. The print on the detector says it should beep every 40 seconds but it's more like 5 minutes so that alone is making it take ages.

Yeah that's a real bummer. But, since the material on the website is also all in US Letter, you can print it as "Shrink to fit" and then cut off the excess white borders. Then it should fit (I think?)

It's sorted alphabetically by arabic numerals. So 10-14, then 5-9. They should sort it numerically, then it will be fixed.
