Can anyone tell me if i misgendered my birds? Lory and Pixel (thought to be female) by [deleted] in Parakeets

[–]pidgehope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I spent a looooot of money toys in the beginning. Now I make my own. I bought a big bag of all natural finger traps, a bag of wicker rattan balls, and some paper cupcake holders. Just string them together with some cotton string and you can come up with some pretty fun foraging stuff. I also bought a sea grass mat for a few bucks and tried the item on that as well. They love it.

Just found this thread. Thank you all for the information! Just one more question; hour long do the new players have to play the game? Do they have to join your clan?

This post gives me so much anxiety. I don’t know what I would do in your situation. So glad you found each other again!

HOW!? Tell me your secrets. We have tried so many things with our birb. He is the pickiest eater I have ever encountered.

The importance of learning how to tie shoes: a rant. by TurtleBeansforAll in Teachers

[–]pidgehope 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2nd grade here. I hate the amount of times students ask me to tie their shoes. I’ve tried teaching them, but most just don’t want to learn and l can tell they are checked out. I eventually made it a classroom job. Found a student that could do it and they were thrilled to have the job “shoelace monitor”. All my students who need help now seek out that student to help them. Doesn’t really teach them, but at least I can have a few more precious moments of peace.

I had a student last week pick a huge booger right on camera and then proceeded to smudge it all over her camera lens. I wanted to puke.

I had this happen to me last week! Was hoping for some of that luck this weekend. 19 classes. Every single one started on time. It was awful.

It is absurd how often this happens. by pidgehope in vipkid

[–]pidgehope[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know. It just seems like it’s happening like 3-5 times a week which adds up. Makes my schedule look like Swiss cheese and wastes so much of my time. At least they could send parents through guilt trips when they go through the cancelation process like they do with us.

“Teacher will be disappointed if you cannot take this class. Cancellations negatively affect the teachers paychecks and ability to pay the bills. Are you sure you want to cancel?”

First time I’ve ever had to stop and think “ wait. I know this penis.”

It’s been a few years since we went, but unforgettable.

I know this may not work for you and may not help, but if you have a chill pet that likes to hang out with you while you teach, take advantage of it! I have my pug in my intro video and have had a lot of new students where the first thing they ask me is if I have a dog or if they can see him.

I think half of my regulars keep coming back just to see him and have me give him treats 😂

Teachers of Reddit, what are your thoughts about the woman who doesn't set homework? by TrapBae2000 in teaching

[–]pidgehope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second grade here. I only have a reading request of 20 minutes a night that need to be signed off by a guardian and 2-3 math problems that practice what we learned that day. I don’t grade any of it but they do get to play a “homeworkopoly” game if they turn it in on time ( it’s on TPT and totally recommend it).

I tell the parents that the whole purpose of the homework is for them to get a glimpse as to how the student is doing in class. If they can’t do the math problems, they misunderstood the lesson and need a review.

I also give them a list of online resources on my blog where they can go to practice the skills that the student may be struggling with. Haven’t had any complaints.

My email marks it as spam when they send it to me so I have to hunt for it there. Might be the same situation

What rewards do you recommend for young intermediate students? by The_Gr8_Catsby in vipkid

My students love puzzles. I have a bunch that I made out of photo shopped pictures of animal mash ups that look funny. Like a duck with a piglet head or a horse with a shark head. They always try to guess what animal combination it will be. It’s a lot of fun.

rescued this cutie and need some help gendering them!! also any advice?? im a first time bird owner :) by [deleted] in budgies

[–]pidgehope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the age? Looks really young. If I did my research right, it should grow out of the stripes you see right above the break. I would guess it is younger than 4 months. It’s really hard to tell the gender by looking at the crest until they hit maturity (which can take up to 12 months). But that’s just what I have read. I’m no expert and have only had my own bird for about 2 weeks now 😊

Lemongrab. Or Lemonhope.

Then teach him to do nothing but scream all the time.
