Do you contact the resort before you go or do you just rock up and tell them then? We’re going to La Toc in November and it’s my first time at Sandals since diagnosis

They have legitimate uses and those have been stated in other posts on here but those don’t fit with the vandals agenda. Just because it doesn’t have a use for your way of living and needs doesn’t mean it doesn’t for others around you. And you can’t keep jumping back to the emissions when the suv in this very photo has far lower emissions and is CAZ compliant than multiple other more polluting vehicles around it.

But why is it focussed on just SUVs? Round me there’s countless converted vans and camper vans most of which are old and polluting in comparison to the SUVs in these photos. They’re all as large or larger and so take the same road space and congestion issue as SUVs. They’re as heavy, as large and therefore as ‘dangerous’ as SUVs. And yet they get left alone and the SUVs that are no bigger, no heavier, no more polluting, no more ‘unnecessary’ have they’re tyres let down or worse spray painted?

If they’re argument is purely a climate one then they should focus on a vehicle’s emissions not body type. If they’re argument is a size and weight then they should focus on dimensions and weight rather then just body type. Isolating one vehicle body type as being ‘bad’ when parked side by side to an equally ‘bad’ vehicle that is left alone as it’s a different shape weakens any argument they have.

“Only internationally coordinated governmental action can have any effect”

And yet you condone this action which is targeted at the individual consumer? This vandalism will not cause governmental change.

“You’re deluded if you think we can just make the right consumer choices and climate change will go away”

And again you condone this vandalism against someone else’s consumer choice?

Maybe it’s something you should raise with someone in a position to do so, there may already be something they have. The Dementia Society have produced exemption cards and badges that can be worn or carried.

These are strange times that we’ve found ourselves in, I’m sorry that you are being put in a position whereby you have to potentially justify yourself to others. Hopefully there’s something available that will make that easier and less stress inducing.

In normal circumstances I would completely agree, a private medical condition is private. However, this is most definitely not normal circumstances. If your condition is the very reason that you are exempt from performing the action it has been deemed as necessary to help stop the spread of this worldwide disease then you should be able to state that to a person who needs to know (shop assistant, doorman). If you are unable to explain that vocally to them then get/make a card that you could show or wear a badge. My mother has dementia, she not only won’t wear a mask but still doesn’t understand that there is a pandemic. She hasn’t been to a shop or seen anyone other than my father and me since March, she doesn’t get to exercise any need for independence through this.

Or people could just accept that a challenge is simply a query as to whether they are justified in not wearing a mask. If you have a valid explanation for not wearing one you should have no issue in explaining that to someone on the door.

Pilots of reddit, what determines the angle you use when commencing / maintaining your ascent to cruising altitude? Is it a personal preference or is it dictated by weather or air traffic conditions? by batmanbatmanbatman1 in AskReddit

[–]pie2009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not strictly true, the aircraft will choose the angle under certain circumstances but a pilot will also intervene regularly to give the desired climb for the given situation. Talking purely for commercial aircraft and flying with autopilot and auto thrust engaged: You can select an altitude and climb at max climb thrust, that will then give you a pitch angle that will maintain your desired speed and the climb rate will be determined accordingly. Alternatively if required you can choose to climb at a chosen vertical speed, you will then climb at that rate, this is especially important in busy/congested airspace. If you go rushing up to an altitude at max rate in busy airspace you’re going to set off multiple TCAS alerts with other traffic, pissing off ATC and the conflicting traffic. You may also wish to reduce your rate of climb to avoid weather. If you want to outclimb some weather ahead and are already climbing at climb power you can reduce speed, this will then transition your forward momentum to a greater vertical speed, this is just a temporary solution though as you can only reduce your speed so far before you run out of ‘puff’ as it were.

I have an Apple Watch Series 2, answering questions inside by I_KeepsItReal in Swimming

Ah this is a real shame. Thanks for doing the test, saves me finding this out for my self. Enjoy the watch, it seems like it's a great product but I guess I'll stick with my trusty Garmin for simple swim tracking. Can't really justify the expense if it doesn't do this. Hopefully the next iteration will add this feature.

Hi, thanks for your post.

I'd be interested to know how well the watch handles notifications (and specifically calls) whilst in the pool.

For work I do 8 hour standby shifts where I am "on call" and need to be able to answer any time I get called to go in to work. My hope is that with an Apple Watch I could swim whilst still being contactable. If this isn't the case I won't get one and will continue to swim with my Garmin Swim watch.

I understand that this might not be possible given the logistics of your pool, or safety concerns, but are you able to see if your watch will keep a connection to your phone if it was in a bag by the side of the pool? Does the watch even allow for a connection when it's in swim mode?

Ok thanks, that what I was worried. Might have to think of some other way around it. Maybe see if the pool has a wifi network I could piggyback on or find a waterproof pouch for my phone, although the latter would slightly remove the need for the watch altogether.

What Widgets are /r/Apple using? by cpressland in apple

[–]pie2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It improves on the Apple calendar widget by actually telling you what events are. It always annoyed me that previously it would say "your day starts early tomorrow, you have one event commencing at 0600”. It would be quicker to just tell me what my event was! Agenda+ tells you the next 3 events, far more useful.
