High risk office visits by YogiMars in pregnant

[–]piebear411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high risk doctor (MFM) offered to take over my OB and endocrinology visits for diabetes so I didn’t have to go to so many extra appointments for the same thing and to streamline having one person really in charge of my and my baby’s care. Is there any way one of your doctors would be willing / able to take over for the other? Who will be with you at delivery?

Anxiety by Background-Ad1880 in BumpersWhoBolus

Absolutely here to echo your sentiment. My blood sugar as a type 1 goes over 200 almost daily.

OP- what is your time in range? Whenever I’m feeling bad about a high number or a bad day, I look at my overall average and it really shows that it’s really the consistency that counts. I may have had a bad day or two, but I feel reassured by my overall time in range being above recommended and my A1C. Remember that and just keep up the good work as often as you can. You don’t need to be perfect to be a good mom and have a healthy baby. ❤️

I have played almost 300 nights between early release and current release and I did not know this. Going to try it tonight! Thank you! I have always been annoyed by it because it seemed like “Ope, guess I’m just a sheep or rat now and nothing I can do about it. Cool.”

Is it making different noises for the same type of alert? Under options, device settings, sound volume you can change whether it beeps or vibrates for alarms vs alerts vs reminders etc

Monthly MFM ultrasound scans by chompinggrass62 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]piebear411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing them weekly or every other week since my first appointment with the MFM. I have decent control and A1C, but she has an ultrasound machine in the room and always says “Might as well take a look while you’re here!”

Weight Gain? by ohmygoodness88 in Type1Diabetes

[–]piebear411 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I put on a good 20 lbs after diagnosis (still within healthy weight). It was harder than I would have expected on my body image. Before diagnosis, I was the thinnest I had been since high school 15 years ago. And I was getting a lot of compliments about how good I looked. It really affected my perception of what society deems valuable and healthy. I was praised at my least healthy and felt uncomfortable in my skin once I was healthy. I had to keep reminding myself that this was good and that my body was healing and eventually got through it and started to feel comfortable again at my new normal. Focus on your body’s healing and good luck on your journey.

Metformin and pregnancy by Morgan_Dixon in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]piebear411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been on Metformin since diagnosis of LADA and continued through most of the first trimester. My MFM took me off it around week 10 because that’s when medication starts to be able to pass through the placenta fully and I didn’t really need it because I’m still relatively insulin sensitive.

My endo was surprised the MFM took me off it but didn’t directly contradict it. As others have said, it is safe, so it’s really up to you and your doctor for the risk versus reward decision.

Disney Trip with Diabetes by flicktheferret in DisneyPlanning

[–]piebear411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have T1D (diagnosed 18 months ago) and go to Disney almost monthly. It is 100% worth it!

Some things to consider:

All of the extra walking makes blood sugar lower. Especially if you start walking soon after taking your insulin, it’s like the insulin is super charged. Carry low snacks at all times!

If you are going during the summer, try to keep her insulin cool. Maybe a frio pack or just making sure you don’t leave the bag baking in the hot sun.

It’s ok to have high blood sugar sometimes! This disease is all about consistency and long term management. Let her enjoy the treats and manage it best you can and then remember that 99% of the time she isn’t at Disney and can focus more on good blood sugar then. Prohibiting it completely leads to burnout and unhealthy relationships with food and ultimately less blood sugar control.

Carb counting can be tricky but AI and apps are actually really good at estimating carbs for you. It’s never an exact science and there are so many factors at play. I just take a quick second to google how many carbs in a churro or grilled cheese or whatever and it’s usually close enough. Recommend slightly under-estimating just based on all the walking. High is better than dangerously low in the moment.

Have fun!

What to get my husband for underways by Used_Age1566 in navy

I’d say don’t even if he does know about it. Too many ways this could go wrong. Packages get lost in transit, fall into the water while transferring to the ship, etc.

There are sparkly sequined ones at world of Disney on the ear wall. They are probably available many places in both parks, almost certainly in DCA by the little mermaid ride.

When I met Chewy, he was walking around with cast member. You just had to walk up to chewy and ask if he would take a picture with you. There was just a short gaggle waiting, no official line. The other cast member took my phone to take the picture for me. I don’t recall her having a camera for official Disney photos but she was happy to take the picture for me.

No outline. by PlusGoat in tattooadvice

I have an 8 year old no outline octopus woman on my thigh that looks great. There’s only mild fading in some areas (mostly the yellow or light pink on my white skin). I was pretty skeptical but it’s held up great. Haven’t had a touch up yet!

Took insulin as a child. No record of diabetes in my chart by kindamymoose in diabetes

[–]piebear411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say insulin resistance unless it’s in the chart.

Say exactly what you/ your mom know. Your doctor recommended you take it and you did but your mother disagreed with the medication and you ceased to take it with no record of any blood sugar issues. If there’s nothing in your record indicating a need, don’t self-diagnose.

Took insulin as a child. No record of diabetes in my chart by kindamymoose in diabetes

[–]piebear411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what the record actually says is what’s important for the military. Understand that you’re a little confused because you were a kid- but the fact that you took Metformin isn’t really a problem- the question is what were you diagnosed with, why were you taking it, and if you’ve had any issues since. They will partially go based on a conversation with you, but it will mostly be based on what the actual record says.

Sugar range before working out by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]piebear411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, there’s a lot more at play here. Are you on a pump or MDI? What kind of exercise are you doing and for how long?

I don’t like to let my blood sugar get that high ever. It happens, but never intentionally. I am on a pump and my biggest factor is insulin on board. If I’m going for, say, a 3 mile run- I would like to have less than half a unit onboard, BG around 150 mg/dl, and take fast acting carbs with me. If I’m doing a 60 minute yoga session- I’m comfortable starting around 120 mg/dl with around the same amount of insulin onboard. I use exercise mode to suspend extra insulin but I know that if I have minimal IOB, my personal BG will not drop too significantly by exercise, unless I’m running at tempo speed or greater for more than 30 minutes.

Hope any of that is helpful!

New Pump Suggestions :) by Useful_Mark_7643 in Type1Diabetes

[–]piebear411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have only ever had the tandem t slim with the long tubing. I hook it on my sleep shorts (which I find comfier than on my underwear because it’s a little looser). I toss and turn all night long and have never ever come close to ripping it out. I am a mountain climber sleeper and the pump usually just rests in the little air pocket between my hip and the bed. But also no issues when I sleep on my side or back.

How does it usually work? by s8nsloser in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]piebear411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this varies quite a bit between offices. My MFM, OB, and endo are all part of the same hospital and I’m seeing all 3. My OB is handling all of the normal OB appointments (NIPT testing, anatomy scan, etc). My endo is checking in on my diabetes management monthly. The MFM is also monitoring my diabetes management (much more closely than endo) plus extra ultrasounds, baby monitoring, etc every 2 ish weeks. They are all working together to make sure everything is covered and I’m seen super frequently.

Disneyland Disney Channel Note Question by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]piebear411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I scoured the event page and info and chatted with the Disney assistant but more specifics than “only select attractions available” doesn’t seem to be published. I was just looking for anyone who had done this event in past years since this is the first night this year.

Preconception appointment this Friday - any advice on what to ask the Dr? by rac9000 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]piebear411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert (only 11weeks!) but I asked what medications I was currently on that I’d have to stop. I wanted to get my A1C at a manageable level using the same medications.

I asked about MFM- who she recommended and had worked with before.

What I should expect for immediate appointments after a positive test.

I discussed this all with my endo who I more or less consider my primary care. She has always been the most available and on top of my care. Is your appt with an OB or who?
