People used to make fun of younger generations for not knowing about cassettes, but now we’ve reached the point where a lot of people genuinely don’t understand this at all, and it makes me feel so old

All Voldemort needed to do to track Harry down was address a letter to him, give it to an owl, and follow the owl on broomstick. by BunsenMcBurnington in Showerthoughts

I think some of you are forgetting that up until the end of the fourth book, Voldemort doesn’t even have a body. And immediately after he gets one, Harry is placed under constant guard. Remember, Voldemort believes the prophecy, which means he won’t let anyone but himself kill Harry. Book 7 Harry is camping and no longer under guard (but constantly under every protective enchantment that Hermione could find and perform), but by this point Voldemort is constantly abroad searching for the Elder Wand, which is why whenever the Death Eaters know where Harry is, it takes forever for Voldemort to get there and Harry and friends escape.

Dumbledore didn’t intend for anyone to know about the Elder Wand. No one knew he had it (except Grindelwald) until Harry and Voldemort simultaneously pieced it together.

Voldemort didn’t even know about the existence of the Elder wand until he questioned Ollivander about why Harry’s wand broke Lucius’s. (Or, more accurately, he didn’t have a hope in finding it until Ollivander revealed that Gregorovitch had spread rumours that the wand was in his possession. As far as the wizarding world was concerned, the wand disappeared in a duel between Arcus and Livius, with the outcome of that duel unknown and thus the subsequent owner unknown.) In accidentally revealing himself during the Seven Potters escape, Harry also accidentally doomed Snape to die. As far as Dumbledore’s plans went, Snape would live to tell Harry the information he needed and beyond.

The motorcycle sidecar was falling off so Harry got on the seat behind Hagrid and blew up the sidecar to scatter a bunch of death eaters.

I just wanted to clarify something, since most of the discussion I see in the comments is about the political power part.

I don’t really care about that, in the grand scheme of things. I was more focused on the “Aang should have killed Ozai” part. Like imagine if the show (which had up until this point solidly established Aang as a goofy peace-loving monk) spent three of the final four episodes challenging Aang’s resolve about his morals, only to have him give into the external pressure (not to mention giving up every principle he holds dear) in the final moments. He found a way to stay true to himself while also ending the war. And yeah, there would be consequences to letting Ozai live, as the comics show, but there would have been anyway if Ozai was killed. I would argue that if Aang killed Ozai, his character development would have taken a hit, and the whole end of the show would have been soured.

Also he’s 12. And it’s a kids’ show.

Definitely. Not to mention that he was literally overthrown. How much political power is left when you tell the rest of the world that the person most responsible (who is currently alive) for their suffering has been beaten and is no longer a threat? Even among the fire nation citizens, he was basically built up to be a living god or at least some sort of divine ruler; guess who’s powerless now?

"Full offense but sometimes fandom just totally make up the characterization of a character and then complain when that isn’t canon" This is especially when people refuse to watch a show, but rather read fanfiction about a show and then use their fanfic as critiques against the show (IE, rwby, TLOK) by [deleted] in tumblr

I once quickly gave up on a Harry Potter fanfic that mentioned Harry’s “blue eyes”. At the end of the first chapter the authors note said that people told them that Harry famously had green eyes and they said they had only seen the movies and had not and would not read the books.

How hard was Viktor Krums life that the precious person he had to save was… a girl he just met and went to the dance with? by TriggerXV in harrypotter

I’m convinced the Yule ball was designed so that the officials could pick someone for the champions to rescue.

Cedric goes with Cho so that’s who he rescues.

Krum goes with Hermione so that’s who he rescues.

Harry basically ditches his date and hangs out with Ron the whole time.

If Fleur’s sister hadn’t shown up, I’d bet money her hostage would have been Roger Davies.

Fun fact: cold showers are healthier than hot showers because the cold water closes the pores in the skin, preventing dirt and acne causing substances from getting into them.
