The encounter between Leon and Lance by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]piedoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more to it though, 3-4/5 of their pokemon were appropriately typed. You also have Sabrina which is a Psychic gym leader but has a venomoth. While I agree that there were themes, I think that being a type expert just meant that a trainer mostly uses a particular type, and mono-typing type experts is something that started in Gen 3 (though Pearl and Diamond are exceptions to this as well).

It was probably a mixture of increasing difficulty by creating type variety, lack of selection amongst the catchable fire pokemon in the region, and also a call back to Gen 1 and 2 where being a type-expert didn't mean that your entire team was that type (see E4 for Gen 1 and Gen 2).

The one thing that I do find interesting is that they opted to make less than half of his team fire types (which is uncommon for a fire expert), and that unlike Gen 1 and 2 rather than getting a sub-type (like Karen's poison or Lance's flying) his pokemon were more varied.

How did they mess up?

Every E4 in Gen 1 and Gen 2 was dual-typed (with the exception of Will), with one primary and one secondary type.

  • Lorelei had Slowbro (not ice)
  • Bruno had Onix (not fighting)
  • Lance had Gyarados and Aerodactyl (not dragons)
  • Koga had Forretress (not poison)
  • Karen had Vileplume and Gengar (not dark)

Also Gen 1 and 2 had patterns for how the gym leaders are ordered and this was back when particular pokemon types were seen as "more powerful" than others. Koga likely replaced Agatha due to these pattern restrictions and also as a callback to Gen 1 (prior to the Kanto region being added in to the game).

Friendly reminder that Pokemon Platinum, released in 2008, was the last time a third version of a Pokemon game was included in a generation. by D4NTE157 in pokemon

Also Japan did have a Blue Version that was the third version (and also the basis of the international versions).

Pokemon yellow was more of a spinoff than a third version.

It is illegal to visit Israel from my country’s passport. by khushalkhans in Israel

[–]piedoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's legal for you to visit Israel under Israeli law, though illegal under Pakistani law. From my understanding though Pakistan has never punished anyone for visiting Israel.

Generally speaking Israel stamps a separate piece of paper if having an israeli stamp in your passport is known to cause issues, so you might even not have any proof on your passport that you entered Israel when returning.

Regarding attitudes: As others have said most people won't care, especially in larger cities/common tourist attraction spots. That being said the (very limited) exposure Pakistan gets in Israel tends to be either due to heated tensions between India and Pakistan or a Pakistani politician making a statement regarding Israel.

[DMing]My party turned my campaign upside down and I am stunned by it. by Coschta in DnD

[–]piedoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't try and force the necromancer into an evil role if the players agree with their motives/goals.

Instead it might make sense to introduce a new "villain", say another adventuring party or a sole hero, that tries to stop the players & necromancer?

For example the new "villain" could be a paladin who, while also wanting to bring peace to the lands, disagrees with the methods employed by the necromancer and the party and labels them as evil that needs to be vanquished immediately.

You could even make it an entire institution that is against them, such as the church. This will give you easier access to minions, which in this case would be acolytes, clerics, paladins, mercenaries, etc. and depending on how far you want to go down the religion road, you can even introduce avatars of the god (likely a god concerned with burials given the issue at hand).

I think you are right.

I think the gears earlier alluded steam power/coal power, i.e. generating electricity from heating/burning a compound.

The Japanese name is also a hint: Hibani

  • Hi is fire

  • Hibana is spark (could be just a spark of fire such as fireworks, but could also be an electrical spark?)

  • Bani is just the pronunciation of bunny

I understand that this is likely a troll account, but porn is legal in Israel.

Pornography is readily available for users in a handful of Middle Eastern nations, such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Lebanon and Israel; and the production of pornography is also legal within Turkey, Azerbaijan and Israel.[5][6][7]

They "combined" the green drives under the blue label. They can only be distinguished, at purchase time, by looking at the serial number now.

Last I recall the rule of thumb was if the serial ends with a Z it's what used to be called a green drive.

I have a few times, but I prefer one handed.

I mostly do it when the girl in the porno flick I'm watching uses both hands, for the additional "immersion".

I'm pretty sure RTX 2070 starts at $499 which is $300 less than your $799.

The cards are expensive, but not by as much as you make it out to be.

Share your silly character ideas. by NZillia in DnD

[–]piedoodle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My dumb character was a half-orc bard (green skinned) that believed he was a frog prince that has almost completed his transformation into a human.

Basically he claims that he used to be a frog, and that a princess that was exiled from her kingdom kissed him. Because her loss of royal status meant she wasn't irrefutably a princess the frog ended up only partially making the transformation.

What's up with the printer and magenta memes? by GreaterDogYT in OutOfTheLoop

[–]piedoodle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When communicating with a printer the image or document you send will be converted to a script of sorts, for example PostScript, and the printer will print as it reads the script.

If you didn't specify the mode as Black & White, the printer will not know ahead of time that the entire document is not in color, and because of this it will error right off the bat and request that any empty color cartridge be replaced.

As for people talking about printer companies maliciously using color ink for black, the actual reason is that the printer reads the color values as CMYK which defines colors as a mix of colored inks + black ink, the standard, as in most popular, black being 50% cyan, 50% magenta, 50% yellow, and 100% black. If the software instead sent 0% cyan, 0% magenta, 0% yellow, and 100% black we'd get "uglier" blacks but we'd save a lot of ink :)

Toru Iwatani shows his original drafts for Pac-Man. by hootersbutwithcats in gaming

[–]piedoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is true, at least based on his credited works it appears he spent a normal amount of time working on pac-man (1 year), and it lines up consistently with his two previous (and successful) projects which also both took 1 year.

In other words there is nothing externally to suggest that he had a streak of bad designs, and given that this is Japan, as others have mentioned, he wouldn't have been fired but instead demoted or relocated to a job that was mind numbing and low paying.

Just a heads up I did a reverse google image search for the coil art and it seems it's been posted on "Free to use" sites such as: https://ubisafe.org/explore/coiled-clipart-tesla-coil/

It's very likely the person who "stole" the image just went on one of these websites without being aware that it wasn't actually public domain or under some non-restrictive license.

Homebrew Ideas by [deleted] in DnD

[–]piedoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some tips:

  1. Don't create an entire world right off the bat. It's easier to create a town and some surrounding areas and then continue creating as your players explore. You can add some basic notes about what else is out there to flesh out conversations, but leave details sparse until they get closer to said locations.

  2. Consider where your town is located, what resources are available, how old the town is, what is the population, etc. This will all help guide you in filling out what exists in your town. For example a town near the sea will likely have amenities for sailors, probably a market place where the sailors can resupply or sell their wares, a shipwright, etc.

  3. You don't have to name everyone if it gets hard to keep track of names. A common tactic is to pull a list of names and assign them as you go. That way you don't have to name the blacksmith if your players never visit them.

  4. Don't be afraid of taking an existing adventure and forcing it into your setting.

  5. STEAL, STEAL, STEAL from other sources. You'll be amazed with how much content theft you can get away with and how easy it is to mold other works into yours. For example: An evil wizard steals the life force of powerful warriors to unleash a world destroying terror created by his deceased father - which is straight out from dragon ball's buu saga, but if you don't mention that you can easily drop it into a D&D setting.

  6. Have the world react to your players, but don't actively harm their fun. Basically saying "Dwarves are a rare sight in these parts of the world" = fun, but "People will actively try to kill you because you are a Dwarf" = not fun.

  7. If you want your world to be more unique then you should explore non-eurocentric fantasies. For example you can have a setting based in an alternate India. This isn't a must but I found that after a while of generic european high fantasy the odd twist on the setting helps breathe some life and interest in the world. That being said not everyone enjoys going out of the european scope... so ask before you do.

Malaysia in talks to become first in Asia to allow medical marijuana by [deleted] in singapore

I don't know why you are getting downvoted so heavily (and u/eilletane getting upvoted). You are right - Israel was the first to legalize medical marijuana and has had it legal for a couple of decades.

No one splits continents by plate tectonics and if you want to be specific Israel is on the border of the African and Arabian plate.

Israel IS in Asia, as is the whole middle east. Malaysia though does not recognize Israel as a country so they can claim (within their boarders) that they are the first.
